  1. Okay, there is definately more going on here than we realize. I went back to the same MP server to drop four GBU-31's in quantities of two. The first release was flawless. The second release on the second target caused a CTD. I'm going to drop some more GBUs tonight, and I encourage everyone to do the same and report back your results.
  2. Maybe I spoke too soon. Try remapping your weapon release button and see if that does anything. Also make sure you are using the same drivers and open beta as referenced above.
  3. Please mark this issue closed. Historically, when you have a MP only issue that works fine in single player, it is a de-facto DCS issue. Starting with the simple, I remapped the weapon release button. I then tried to drop two GBU-31s on two different MP servers (the one where I had four repeats of the CTD) and another server. Neither drop caused a CTD.
  4. We are using the same open beta and drivers.
  5. JDAMS are broken again in MP beta. They cause a CTD. I'm running V430.64 drivers and the latest open beta.
  6. JDAM CTD IN MULTIPLAYER SERVER ONLY REPRODUCABLE IN MULTIPLAYER ONLY: This is NOT REPEATABLE in a single player game created with the mission editor. This only happens on a multiplayer server, and then it happens 100% of the time. Please try on a multiplayer server.
  7. Since the last patch fixing the HAARM loft, my AGMs are right on the money. It's important to point the plane (aka sensor) at the direction of the threat before launch. HAARM is usually always going to go for the strongest radiation source within reason (friendly or not).
  8. GBU-38 and GBU-31 (all varients) cause DCS open beta to CTD when depressing the weapon release button using PP mode (any quantity). This was an earlier problem that was fixed and is now broken again.
  9. This site makes it super easy to convert MGRS to the DD MM SS.SS needed for accurate JDAM strikes using the pre-planned mode. As most of you know, when WAGs hits ENTER ENTER in his training video, he is really entering the .SS as 00. The Hornet needs all the information for accurate JDAM strikes using the pre-planned mode. http://www.earthpoint.us/Convert.aspx I took a page out of the F-22 playbook and dropped a JDAM from 40,000 ft at Mach 1.2 and it hit dead on from about 20 nm away. Basically, it's a stand-off weapon using that tactic. Good luck and have fun. JH
  10. I think it is normal for the HAARM to lock on to the strongest radiation source, but I used to be able to take out SAMs without issue. Now it is if the seeker is turned off. I've literally seen it fly straight at an SA-8 (the direction of my momentum), only to turn and fly straight up. My AMRAAMs don't even loft to 42,000 feet.
  11. Several of my friends on a reputable multiplayer server, including myself, are having bad experiences with the AGM-88C in our Hornets after the update. The HARMS are lofting up to 42,000 feet and then flying in a straight line until they run out of energy and crash. I set up a test range with a mix of SA-8, SA-19, and SA-6s to see if I could hit anything in either TOO or SP mode. The HAARMs followed the exact same behavior...lofting way up and then crashing regardless of proximity or angle to target. The seekers were working correctly on the HAARMs a few weeks ago. If this isn't already a known issue, I wanted to bring it to the attention of the community. I also encourage you to re-create the issue on your server or single player and see if you have similar results. Thanks, Jimmy "Rattler" Helton
  12. The DCS Identity Crisis: Who am I and Where am I going?? By Lt. Dan In my paradigm of flight simulation there are two worlds: P3d with VATSIM and DCS. P3d seems more or less self-explanatory. There is great ATC, there are strict rules, you do it by the book, and you learn about aviation as you do it. If you don't file an IFR flight plan, an administrator PMs you. If you screw up with ATC, they yell at you. If you cross the line, you are banned. It takes a lot of aviation knowledge to fly your SIDS and STARS out of a busy terminal area on a high fidelity jumbo while talking to live ATC. Then, we have DCS. It was built around two fourth generation aircraft, the KA-50 and the A-10C, and then given appropriate fourth generation threats with the intention of getting military contracts. As I remember, the A-10C was used in the conversion course for ANAG A-10A pilots. ED was gracious enough to share their creation with us, which unquestionably is the closest the average simmer will ever get to flying a military aircraft. Further more, in terms of graphics engines, DCS blows P3d out of the water. The future seemed promising. Then, for one reason or another, that was it for ED's great fourth gen systems simulators. DCS was turned into an engine for developers with really no limitations or criteria. We see everything from vintage warbirds through third generation fighters. In large, DCS modules are very well done but never intended to (a) go up against fourth generation threats or (b) fight on the same battlefield together. ED then did what I most feared: they unleashed their turnkey FC3 Gen 4+ fighters into the mix so that you could fire off some AMRAAMs against those poor outdated aircraft with pilots learning a systems simulator. I still remember the 15 minutes I spent setting up an A-10C only to get strafed on the ground by some guy on my team in an FC3 aircraft. As I recall, he didn't get banned from the server. DCS is a blender. We have an interesting world that is basically a hodgepodge in terms of battle simulation. Throw in some taxiway takeoffs, near collisions, lack of ATIS, and simultaneous runway takeoffs in opposite directions, and you have yourself a really unique multiplayer experience. But, we live with it, because as satisfying as realistic PMDG 747 long hauls can be, nothing quite tops the thrill of flying a military aircraft by the seat of your pants. After all, "nobody's ever come this close to a Mig-28 before." Let's come back to reality for just a second and look back at the great A-10C systems simulation ED built for us. We all know that the A-10C does not fly unless there is (a) undisputed air superiority, (b) undisputed SEAD, © a JTAC on the ground or in the air, and © a very low threat environment. If you meet those criteria, it can stay up for a long time doing a lot of damage and taking a lot of ground fire. Although almost no multiplayer game ever takes advantage of the JTAC/TAD interface (how hard is it to throw up a predator or a reaper?), the A-10C is still a six year old masterpiece that has never seen an equal. The KA-50 is no slouch either, and the only helicopter I will fly. If you don't meet all of the above criteria, and you rarely EVER will given the plethora of aircraft now in DCS, not the least of which are the FC3 threats, then you need a fast interdictor. This is why the new Viggen is my next favorite aircraft. While I love it, the Viggen is still very much an advanced generation 3 design. It cannot really defend against SAMS without excruciatingly bulky pods, and it really can't defend itself against fighters in the BVR environment. The much improved JA37 holds a better accounting of itself with more modern avionics and weaponry, the compressor stall problem fixed, a better engine, and the list goes on and on. The JA37 is an aircraft that I would "almost" take into a fourth gen fight, except that even the Swedes knew that the Gripen was the future. The AJ37 is still the best interdictor in DCS until the eventual release of the Charlie, but I am really surprised that as streamlined as it is for the anti-ship role, it doesn't perform the SEAD role at all. If it could do both anti-ship and SEAD (think Tornado), I would almost forgive the non-precision ground striking ability. It's a "one and done" fast mover, and in the current DCS world that is what we need. When the BK90 is fixed in MP games, it will be that much more deadly against ground targets. Where am I going with this? What is my point? After six years, the A-10C is still the best, most modern, most high fidelity, most deadly, and most amazing aircraft that we have. It feels right, it flies right, and it works right. Everything else has been well....an interesting historical experience. Am I the only one to raise an eyebrow when I get into my vintage 2011 A-10C and realize this is as good as it gets? When will we truly realize the potential of the fourth generation environment that is DCS? Much has been promised. A lot is in the works. It's 2017 folks. I hope sooner comes rather than later.
  13. I can evade SA-19s no problem by climbing and turning. They can't match my rate of climb if I'm supersonic at sea level. However, there is no way I can continue a bomb run with 4 SAMs in the air. I have noticed that they all fire at the Rb05. Sadly, I can't control the Rb05 worth a flip. I have no spatial awareness of its distance to target by simply looking at the flare. Right now, I'm focusing on Mavs with gun pods as possibly the best all around strike combo. I've considered dive bombing in CCIP mode like you would on a fighter, but I haven't found that functionality in the Viggen, which seems made for level bombing. I've considered toss bombing, but it seems pretty difficult. Anything to get me out of gun/IR SAM range is a good thing.
  14. I have never used the A-10A. I designate with the targeting pod zoomed in, set my SPI, then slave all to SPI. Yes I have Track IR.
  15. BK90s are awesome. I love them...when they work. It seems odd to me that these work in SP or as the MP host but not when you join a MP game. How does that one little fact change the game engine enough to break the Bk90s? Sadly, other than anti-ship (which the Viggen owns until the F/A-18 eventually shows up with the Harpoon), the Viggen needs this stand off weapon to live in the modern battlefield against ground tank formations, infantry and SAMS. Every time I take to the skies in the Viggen, I'm lucky if I kill anything much less RTB alive. This is where the BK90s are needed...badly. I gave the Viggen a rest the other day and got in the A-10C. I killed two formations with CB105s, fired six mav kills, and still had my gun for another 10-15 targets. I even killed three choppers with sidewinders and guns, got shot by another player, hit by ground fire, lost an engine, lost my gear, and still landed safely. I'm not saying the Viggen should be an A-10, but so far the only damage model seems to be "disintegrate and crash." That being said, you can't put the Viggen in harms way. It makes me wonder what the niche is and why a Mig-21 or any other fighter isn't an equally good bomb truck. Maybe I'm just flying too high. I placed four SA-19's to practice bomb running at 100m and they fired at me before I got there every time....every time.
  16. 1. Glad I'm not crazy on the Bk90. I can get it on target. The munitions blow up everything in SP but then do not dispense at all in MP. Speaking of bugs, my Mig-21 radar has crapped out since the last update (anyone elses?). In multiplayer, lack of a standoff weapon reduces the Viggen to a bomb truck, does it not? And, I've had small arms fire disintegrate my Viggen at Mach .9 when I'm bombing straight and level over the target at 100m. I'm telling you, this plane was meant to sink ships. Maverick deployment is difficult at best, so it would be great to have that stand off BK90 option in MP. 2. The RWR "lights only" button even when you keybind it still doesn't seem to work. Volume control, please! If it can be done on the Mig, it can be done on the Viggen. 3. I've had some good landings with autothrottle, and I've had some bad fails with it. The system seems to be a few seconds behind the aircraft. Where I get in trouble is if I increase AoA to level out on a long approach. The throttle doesn't seem to keep up with the decrease in speed and change in airflow over the wings. I'm not sure if the answer is to just come in high and fast, but then I can't get my speed down without flaps and air brakes (which do not seem to exist on the Viggen). It reminds me of landing the ConcordeX. You're screwed until you get your wheels on the ground and can hit the reversers and breaks. I know a few times I've put the back wheels of the Viggen on the runway and went to full throttle thinking I was going into thrust reverse only to accelerate off the runway at full afterburner. Maybe I need to nose down the stick. The only reason I can think to design it with two back wheels like a Mig-25 is to either do harder, faster landings or have more breaking power. Fun stuff!
  17. I've spent the last three days learning the Viggen. It's a fine plane, but I do have some comments/questions. 1. Bk90 Cluster Munitions. Very cool, but 9 out of 10 times they fly over the target LOLA and do not dispense any munitions. I've followed John's excellent tutorial. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong? They are dead on target, so I'm not sure what else to do. 2 App-27 RWR: This is possibly the loudest RWR ever. :) The volume is supposed to be controlled by the UK DAMPING knob on the front left panel which also controls the sidewinder volume. This knob does not appear to function. There is also a "lights only" mode keyboard binding that does not appear to work. So far, the only solution is to turn the entire system on or off. 3. Landing with the Autothrottle lever: I find that visual landings are deadly with this engaged if you make any mistakes in AoA, which always leads to a compressor stall. As soon as I hear that first thump I want to do what any pilot does for stall recovery: lower the nose and go to full throttle. However, the Autothrottle lever seems to override my manual inputs. By the time I look back and get the darn thing up, it's too late. It seems safer to do a visual approach without it and manually control the throttle and AoA to maintain speed and glideslope. These automations should make this bird easier to land than the Mig-21, but no matter how you slice or dice it a delta wing plan is touchy as low speeds.
  18. I'm talking about deciduous tress, like oaks, elms, maples that lose their leaves in the fall. Vegas is full of them and seems to only have one species of tree (i.e. the textures from Caucasus).
  19. Admittedly, I've never been to Nevada, but the trees are throwing me off a bit. I did not expect to see the desert and Las Vegas densely covered in the same deciduous trees that populate Caucasus. I will occasionally see stretches of cactus plants, but in general, is there any way to either reduce the number of trees or change the species? As a rule, the desert doesn't have many trees, and the ones that do exist are probably more of the shrub variety. Flying a Ka-50 around the "forest" of Las Vegas is a bit comical. :) Otherwise, Nevada is impeccable.
  20. They actually won't deploy on the ground. I tried to deploy them after touchdown and overshot the runway.
  21. I've confirmed that I can see the ASP launch lights but only with the R-55 or RS-2US missiles.
  22. My guess is that they only work with certain missiles, as some users have suggested. It may well be a direct X 11 issue that will change when EDGE is released. My lock on and break off lights work correctly. Also, in flight yesterday I accidently opened the air brakes (which I did not know the 21 even had as it was not mentioned in the landing tutorial) when I pressed the C key. It took me a while to figure out how to close them (D key), as an airbrake button is not referenced in the manual. Does anyone know where to find the airbrakes inside the cockpit? The mig seems to stop just fine with the parachute, but it's good to have options (esp in bombing runs).
  23. At least I'm not crazy regarding the floodlights! I completed the air-to-air tutorial and none of the launch zone/authorization lights on the ASP (ASP 12, 40-42) light up for either SAR or IR. I was still able to splash my bandits. The missile launch light in the radar screen still worked, and I still got tone. I had to guess the launch zone for the IR missile. By default, all power switches on the RV panel are on in the tutorial.
  24. Yes, I can start at their six about 2-3km and fly all the way to over taking the target and still never get a launch authorization. I get a solid lock for maybe 10-20 seconds. Maybe I have the range set incorrectly? Should I be going off the red or the white range dial? I was going off the white. I even tried going up with all SAR missiles to make sure I didn't accidently select an IR. On another note, my canopy floodlights don't seem to work (red or white) at night. Otherwise, I'm very impressed. The 21 is an absolute dream to fly.
  25. My air-to-air launch light won't illuminate after I lock a target with a SAR missile, even in the tutorial. Did I miss a button? I've double checked the station indicator and that SAR was selected.
