Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
dores893 replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
What's Next? DCS F/A-18E? Isn't it time for DCS to put out a fast jet? While the last few projects have been interesting, most folks were drawn to the series for code written pre-2011 or earlier. I sincerely hope you guys aren't going down the rabbit hole on DCS B-17 or something else of no immediate military application in DCS World. :) The fans would seem to say the Super Hornet is in order, and that is certainly a noteworthy project worthy to be compared to the Warthog and the Ka-50. -
I switched from a Logitech Freedom wireless joystick to a Logitech Extreme 3D. This is a relatively common joystick, and I am having no issues with it in DCS. However, in FC2, instead of detecting the new joystick and letting me map to it, the game seems to want my Freedom back and crashes with a lua error. Any ideas on how to map the new joystick?

If I showed you something, you'd just tell it me it was beta. :) Heard that one a few too many times arleady.

Having played FC2 online almost every day for the last 8 months, I can tell you that shots that would have been 100% kill in FC2 have thus been 100% miss in my limited FC3 online experience. This seems like a big leap to me. Was FC2 that unrealistic?
-
That's fine, but if you are going to nerf the F15 and the AAMRAAM, nerf the russian and their equipment too. If I can't get a hit in 6 shots, they shouldn't hit every time.
-
A fired a spread of 6 between 20-14 miles against the Mig before I had to go defensive. I fired 2 head to head at 4 miles against the SU-25. I didn't get a single hit.
-
Probably FC2 dynamics for the russian planes that didn't nerfed in the reboot.
-
Just seems unrealistic to me.
-
Almost the same situation going head on with an SU-25 at less than 4 miles. He dodged multiple AMRAAMs and killed the F-15 with one missle. Since each missle has its own radar, spacing out missle shots every 10-20 seconds should make a difference but it doesn't.
-
Did they nerf the AIM-120 in FC3? I just went head to head with a Mig 29 in an F-15C. At about 20 miles I started firing AIM120Cs at the guy. By 14 miles I had fired 6 at him. He gets one missle shot off and I turn and go defensive and he kills me. One hit and its over. All six of my missles miss him. How is that even possible? He would have been pnwed in FC2 in that same situation. And, why does it take two 120s to bring to a Ka-50? I'm thinking the AIM120 has been seriously nerfed.

When I press the K-041 switch during the start-up sequence, my PUI-800 Weapons Status and Control Panel does not power up, unlike in the training video. I can't figure out how to get power to this panel.

Must be down for the count. I'll try again tomorrow.

This post started 6 hours ago. I could accept maybe they were rebooting servers for an hour max, but six hours? Are they building a new server piece by piece? Grandma was slow but she was old.
-
Yeah, I just spent the better part of the evening reading and memorizing Ka-50 startup procedures and navigation and now I can't active my product. Servers unreachable. Good lord.

I think by far the most interesting thing about FC3 and DCS world is how it has been crafted around the Americans. There is a thriving FC2 community, and probably more people playing that game. But, if you go there, everyone speaks Russian. Makes sense given who developed the FC series. DCS World seems to be an American reconstruction of this community. I don't think the Russians will ever join the club, especially since they have been slighted in their aircraft. :) I think both are interesting, but FC2 is definitely the better survey experience as of now. By the way, if I took people's money for incomplete work I'd be fired. If the product has glaring deficiencies, then they should be LISTED and ADVERTISED with the product. Beta is hardly an excuse. Tell us what we are getting before we buy it. Full disclosure. If anything, it will bite the developers as they establish a reputation for their work.
-
Beta = Take your money now, give you a complete product later.

Looks like I'm headed back to FC2 for a better game experience. You can keep the graphics, but I do wish I had my $40 bucks back (same thing I wish after buying Combined Arms)! :P

When I purchased DCS A-10 earlier this year, I downloaded and studied the manual for over a month before I started flying. I felt it was necessary in order to really understand the complexities of the aircraft, and it was time well spent. We've been left without any real manual in our newly rebooted survey sim FC3, so I need to ask some basic questions in the hope that somebody has an answer. Regarding the F-15C: 1. I find the HUD drift and color highly annoying. I can't seem to make the HUD dark enough to read in any color, and the drift means that I don't have critical information when I need it. I can't even read airspeed when I rotate. Does anyone know how to make the HUD dark enough to actually read or how to keep it centered?? 2. The familiar nagivation cross from FC2 seems to have dissapeared in navigation mode, being replaced with a line. Not sure what that means, or how to deal with it. But, I can't seem to nagivate anymore. 3. The autopilot is just wacked, but I always thought the same in FC2 and I never used it. When I turn on the auto flight following with autothrust, my jet just flys a 360 circle. Also, it's not clear if you also need to engage an altitude hold in addition to the flight following, or if you can set the autothrust level (the jet always deploys the air brake when I engage it). Any help would be appreciated.

What is ED's Business Model? I also have to say that I am really confused with ED's business model. First a survey sim, then a high fidelity helicopter simulator to prove ED can get military contracts, followed by another high fidelity sim setting the standard in survey sims, followed by a P-51 Mustang (still haven't figured out where that fits in), following by a generic tank sim, and now reinsert the survey sim. I think ED needs to focus on making high fidelity airplanes for military contracts, because that is likely where the money is. Then water it down for the rest of us, and it will still be great. Fuel is expensive and computers are not, so that seems like a huge market area untapped. Hell, the Russian Air Force barely gets any flight hours these days, so I would think they were my biggest costumer. Then there is China and India all flying the same aircraft. Perhaps the issue is that military contracts are difficult to get, or perhaps even unclassified airplanes are few and far between. Or, it could be your marketing folks. Whatever the reason, nickel and diming a small community of mostly US simmers with random products is probably not going to work in the long run. Wags, I want to see ED stick to a long-term business strategy.

A Questionable Idea at Best Re-hashing old code into DCS: World is one thing. Charging for it like it is a new game is entirely different, and, frankly, somewhat shocking. Why would anyone who owns and plays FC2 spend $40 to play essentially the same game in DCS: World?? Sure, there may be some improved graphics and possibly minor systems modifications, but essentially this is the same survey sim we have been playing for years. Charging for it like it's a new game is absurd. I play FC2, have great frame rates, and have a lot of fun. Would I have more fun doing the same thing in DCS: World? I highly doubt it. How about we save our cash for the next high fidelity jet to come to DCS? Also, I'm not convinced that perverting DCS: Word with hop in and go survey jets is a good thing. Imagine a scenario where you are plopping down into your DCS: F-18 to do the proper 5-10 minute startup when all your opponent has to do is throttle up and go. Imagine your flight dynamics and weapons systems are modeled accurately, when your appointment just has to point and shoot. Is this really a blessing? I say leave the survey sims where they belong.

Like I said, something neat the developers could do with the files that we more or less already had on our computers. But, not in any way a game changer. Just, something fun to do while we wait for the next DCS aircraft. Personally, I'll stick with Company of Heroes when I want to play a tank commander.
-
If you like a really simple first person shooter that is not at all realistic, then I'd say buy it. If you like a strategic simulation, then I'd say play something more realistic like Harpoon or Fleet Command. Honestly, if you are into flight simming and that is why you came to DCS, then you won't get much out of it. I've played it once and wish I had my money back. That being said, I'm not knocking the product or those who enjoy it. But, it is what it is. My first impression was "This is the Microsoft Flight of DCS."
-
Combined Arms seems like an after thought of DCS World rather than a highly realistic combined arms simulation on the level of a product the military might actually pay a contract to use. It was something neat the developers could do, but not in line with their business model. Frankly, I'm glad they got it out of their system so that they can focus on what made DCS a success with both the private sector and the military: modern combat aircraft detailed in unparalleled complexity.
