A suggestion to ED DCS World FC versions
porky_pig replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I was referring to mostly visual cosmetic changes, and the TWS mode is one that is clearly visible as an added system change. Other than that, they both look like the dumpy looking blonde sitting all alone in the corner at the bar. Nobody there wouldnt mind a ride with her, but they would rather pursue the cheap, hot redhead sitting at the bar. Point is, is that FC3 will be all but abandoned at this stage. Everyone will be either flying the AFM F-15 or the Su-27, simply because they are sexier...and in this case cheaper. -

Like the Mig-29s' and the Su-33? These aircraft have remain untouched with the exception of the TWS for the 29's for the last 10 years now. I dont see many people clamoring to date the ugly chicks.... -

You can resell a Sunfire. Nobody is asking for a free product, the beef is the fact that this module is useless, which makes the point of buying -or even keeping- FC3 pointless. I would have rather paid 20 dollars a module and spend 80 bucks for 4 modules, rather than spend 80 bucks (if they discount the modules) and have 5 modules, one of which is taking up hard drive space. -

When these modules come out, you might as well toss FC3 into the trash...thats 50 bones you just throw into the trash, and the software isnt even 6 months old yet. What was the point in releasing FC3 when all you intended to do was make it obsolete not even a year later? What irks me the most is the fact that you will spend close to 130 dollars after all is said and done, which will make FC3 almost as expensive as a new operating system...half of which will wind up in the trash bin. If they do a heavy discount for us FC3 people, then I can live with that...but I didnt buy FC3 just to throw it away. -

The point that he is trying to get across to you is if Falcon BMS (falcom 4.0 restructured) AIM-120's were modelled in FC, you would stand less of a chance because they dont miss in BMS, be it shot off a Hornet, Eagle, Mig-28..... -

I wouldnt mind either! But here is my gripe: they just made FC3 obsolete...a product which isnt even 6 months old yet (or barely so), a product which you have already paid 50 dollars, only to learn of a better module coming later in the year with your perferred aircraft...in which you have to pay -again-. Why not beat me across my kneecaps and take my wallet afterwards? -

My concern is what the difference is between what we already have vs what they are now offering. Is the only difference between DCS A-10A vs FC3 A-10A only an AFM? Think Id rather just keep FC3 because now its just pointless to pay again and again and again. -
New Build... should i get haswell????
porky_pig replied to SAM77's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Differences are night and day between Intel and AMD. About the only thing AMD surpasses Intel on are float point processing. You have twice as much processing power in Intel processors against AMD at a minimum. I honestly cant wait until AMD finally gets their act back together, but the only thing AMD has going for them now are the ATi cards. -

Not for me, Ive had nothing but great results from overclocking my 4770k. Had mine up to 4.8ghz on air this weekend, testing it out. Hell I managed to get a 40% increase in FPS and 80% decrease in blurries in FSX, and thats saying something. Not sure where you get that info from...dont think that most people realize that Intel has stated the max temps this chip can attain before going apeshit is 105c. You overclock it right, your temps wont exceed 85c at 4.5ghz. Sandy and Ivy Bridges didnt allow you to overclock the bclk, only the multiplier. Its the bclk that people should be overclocking first on Haswell, not the multipliers. -
The landing gear isnt meant to surpass 1.5g on landing. Since this aircraft isnt an F-18, you cant land the aircraft at -750 descent rate. Your rate of descent on touchdown shouldnt exceed no more between 15' and 19' per minute.

Before buying hardware (tomorrow)

Dont think you will be able to push that 920 any further than it already is, let alone another 1.5ghz... -
Well, I finally guess I got it cooled down enough...either that or I did some overclocking the wrong way. Im at 126 bclk @ 36 multiplier @ 4.51ghz running under load @ 1.375v and averaging 85c across all cores. Interesting enough, the processors safety limit is 105c and 1.51v on the cpu voltage, straight from Intel. Obviously I wouldnt get there unless I had a water cooling setup with the radiator and fan hooked up inside a mini fridge sitting next to my computer (which will happen someday, I promise...).

Phase the temps - as in the temperatures werent altered or didnt deviate from the previous test. Didnt think it mattered.
-
65 on stock voltage is normal for me, its when you start increasing the voltage that temps go through the roof. I picked up 3 noctua fans, cleaned the paste off of the heatsink and reapplied it, and it didnt even phase the temps.
-
I just spread my thermal paste on with a debit card. Its not like I use it or anything...

Only time Ive ever had a problem with fps was when explosions were going off nearby. Other than that, even when I had a GTX570, I was getting close to 80-100fps with all the eye candy maxed out. I didnt see much of a change coming from that to a GTX680. But its nice to see when something finally works, doesnt it?! Im excited about the fact it made FSX seem so much better...
-
Now go to 4.5. Im getting a new HSF after work today anyways, perhaps that will solve my potential heat problem. If it doesnt, Ill just buy me a water cooling kit.
-
Any chance your clock is not being set correctly? By clock, I mean the clock on the taskbar down on the right.
-
Well, according to RealTempGT, it can go as high as 100c without any fear of damage. 75c is my personal limit, as this is something Im used to since Nehalem came out on the market.
-
They arent kidding when they say get a damn good HSF / watercooling for overclocking this processor. @4.5ghz, 1.3v, 95c under load in Prime95. Hey...at least its stable! Might invest in a water cooler kit in the immediate future to deal with this...but for now, 4.2ghz is fine with me @ 70c.
-
Well, I was just in the aerobatic servers this evening with about 25 other people puttering around in the Huey, and I averaged no less than 45fps with the fps cap removed. Not much of an improvement in DCS, but in FSX it was a massive improvement -literally- night and day difference between Sandy Bridge 2600k and Haswell 4770k...close to a 40% increase in performance. Im not even overclocked yet, and Im just blown away right now with how much of a difference this thing is. Best upgrade Ive made in a long time...I daresay even the cheapest. I didnt keep the H100i cooler, and I did sell my old motherboard and processor, and after everything was said and done, this upgrade only cost me 300 bucks.
-
Id rather have a smooth flight than a stuttering one, and 60fps or more starts to hurt my eyes for some reason. I locked it at 30fps, but Ill test it later at higher fps and see if it helped much.
