Setting the Hind up with the HOTAS Warthog
derbarbarian replied to derbarbarian's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I'll freely admit, helicopters aren't really something I'm super knowledgeable about, I have an elementary understanding of how the collective works and other basic systems but that's about it, but Its something I'm trying to get into. While I apologize for the clearly stupid question, I nevertheless appreciate the input. -
Hey guys, Do you have any suggestions for setting the HOTAS Warthog up with the Hind? The default controls (beyond the basics) don't work at all, the main issue I'm running into is with the collective/throttle, I can't seem to keep the bird in the air, as the throttle/collective settings don't seem to work correctly, If I start out flying I can kind of get it to hover but if I increase the throttle at all it seems to overspeed the engine and the blades go flying off and I end up crashing to the ground, which is the same issue I have when trying to fly the Huey. Prior to it breaking I used to have a Force Feedback 2 which had a single tab for the throttle and that seemingly worked well with the Huey but since upgrading to the HOTAS Warthog I can't seem to get it to work well with either the Huey or the Hind, so I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

F-18 Pilot looking for casual group to learn/play with (PST)
derbarbarian replied to Xentrox's topic in General DCS Squadrons
Hey Xentrox, I'm not actually in a squadron but I'm actually in the same boat as you, I too am looking for a squadron to fly with. I'm actually based out of Seattle so just thought i'd say hey and see if you wanted to link up at some point and do some training/flying? -
Interesting, I've never heard of anyone having issues buying modules before, one way you could probably get around the problem is by using Paypal to pay for the modules. As Maximov said you can always contact your bank, it's not actually your bank blocking the transactions it's the card system itself, so assuming you're using a Visa they use a system called Falcon its sort of a fraud monitoring system, so your bank actually has access to that system and they can make notes on your account saying that you'll be making purchases from X,Y,Z company and you shouldn't run into any further issues.

Hey guys, So I've run into this issue a few times, I was playing for a few hours earlier and all was well, I ended up crashing for a few hours and I just loaded the game back up and hopped into the F-16 module and ALL of my control settings have completely changed. I switched over to the F-18 and F-14 modules and it's the same story. All of the throttle/stick/keyboard have changed, and what's odd is the fact that they haven't reverted back to the default settings, they've changed to something completely different. I went into the saved games folder and checked the controller settings and none of the lau files show any recent modification, yet as I mentioned ALL of the settings have changed. This is the third or fourth time that this has happened in the last 3 or 4 months and it's rather baffling knowing that I haven't changed anything. The other odd thing is when I go into the various controller categories i.e. Keyboard, Throttle, and Joystick and select the entire column and reset it to default, it resets it back to the existing control setup with all of the wonky settings. At this point the easiest thing to do is to just do a full reinstall, which kinda sucks when you have 15 modules installed, but it's the easiest thing to do. I'm definitely going to backup my controller scheme this time around, I'm not sure why I haven't done that previously. With that being said I'm just curious if you guys have any idea why it's doing that? The thought had crossed my mind that the game files may have become corrupted, but the games seem to be running fine, and the controller setups are still there, they've just changed so it doesn't seem to be a file corruption issue. If you guys have any ideas any input would be greatly appreciated.

Cool thanks for all the info guys I really appreciate it. As I mentioned I found that the training courses that are setup in the game are a bit lacking honestly, they definitely help with some of the more basic aspects but even after finishing all of them I still have a TON of questions, especially with all of the different options that pop up on the MFD's, and even some of the info that pops up on the HUD. One of the specific things I'm running into issues with is the AIM-120's and the long range missiles, I'm having issues following along with the proper procedures for those and trying to discern all of the info that pops up on the HUD and the MFD, that's one of many things I still have questions on though. I'll definitely check out the video's along with Chucks Guide. Again thanks for all the info! I'll probably be back posting even more questions later on!

Hey guys, I finally ended up getting a replacement joystick about 5 or so months ago (HOTAS Warthog & Pedals) after my stick broke back in 2017, prior to it breaking I only had DCS A-10, P-51, Mig 21, Huey, FW190 & BF109. When I finally got a replacement I got a little too excited and ended up buying about 8 different modules (F-14, F-16, F-18, AV8, P-47, Spitfire, Mi-24, A-10 II) without thinking about all of the time that you have to spend mastering the individual planes and their controls, systems, etc. So I decided to focus on the F-18 for now, with that being said I've completed all of the training courses but I still feel that there's A LOT to still be learned about that jet & the systems therein. I've seen quite a few different Youtube channels that cover the ones that aren't reviewed in the training but some of them seem to be a bit hit or miss, so I was just wondering if there's kind of a definitive channel that you guys would recommend checking out that will assist me in my journey to ATTEMPT to master this jet?

Haha Thanks m8, So I have tried it for varying periods of time, from a quick press, to a hold for 1/2 a second, 1 second, etc. and it doesn't seem to make a difference, though I did notice something yesterday when I was messing around with the various coolie hat controls, I'm going to create another video as I think the footage would do a much better job of explaining it than I would. I'll definitely print out that document you mentioned, I still need to get profiles setup for the other games, as In addition to A-10C and A-10 II, I also have F-14, F-16, F-18, Mig 21, P51, AV8, Me109, FW-190, UH1-Huey, and Mi-24 Hind. Which they all use varying controls on the stick/throttle.. I honestly have to re-do the training on them pretty frequently because there's so much stuff to remember and each one is quite a bit different than the other. Anyways as mentioned I'll get the new footage posted and I'll also try what you suggested to see if it works.

Hey Guys, So here's some in-game footage I took, when it requests setting the HUD to SOI I pressed the U key, after trying that a couple of times, I then tried using the designated button on the throttle. I also took a screenshot of the control menu as well and included it below.
-
Yeah I've tried long & short and it just cycles the menu's on the MFCD screens. It does the same thing with both the U key and the Coolie hat up long on the throttle. As mentioned I've gone into the controls menu and the keys/buttons are assigned correctly, and there aren't any conflicts with those buttons being assigned to other tasks/inputs.
-
I actually have A-10 II as well and it does the same thing on both, it cycles between both MFCD displays when I press the U key, it does the same thing with the assigned button on the throttle as well. I actually just deleted all of my DCS Profiles and reinstalled the game and now in addition to that issue, it seems like my throttle inputs are now controlling my rudders, so if I increase throttle it see's it as a right rudder input and decrease is a left rudder input. Which is equally strange because it didn't do that before, and I've also gone into the control screen and removed it so the throttles aren't linked to the rudder controls and despite clearing it, it's still doing it. Something is really screwy.. I'm going to install one of those apps so I can capture footage in-game and I'll take a video of the HUD SOI issue just so you can see exactly what I'm talking about.

Hey guys, So I finally got a Thrustmaster HOTAS setup after searching for a reasonably priced one for over a year and I'm aching to get back into DCS as my last joystick broke a couple of years ago and I hadn't been able to replace it until now. So I've been having some severe DCS withdrawals for a while now so saying i'm excited to finally be able to play again is definitely an understatement. Anyways I'm running into an issue trying to make the HUD SOI when doing the Air to air training in the A-10, when I go into the controls it says either use the HOTAS Coolie Hat Up Short command or the U key. So I have the Thrustmaster hOTAS Warthog stick/throttle and when I press the corresponding button to do that all it does is cycle through the screens on the left and right, which when I press the U key I run into the same issue. When I go into the control menu, it shows that the right key/buttons are assigned to the command yet it doesn't seem to want to do it. I'm curious if there's something I'm doing wrong, or if it's some sort of bug? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, I FINALLY got a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Stick & Throttle! It only took me 3 years to finally bite the bullet and order one :-D. Unfortunately, my LAST stick broke about 3 years ago, so I haven't been able to play any of the DCS modules since then, suffice it to say I've been ACHING to play again! I also got a set of Logitech G Pro Flight Rudder Pedals to go along with the stick/throttle. I'm running into issues with the pedals in DCS. In addition to controlling the rudders they're also controlling the ailerons so anytime I do a left/right rudder input it's also kicking the ailerons which is causing my plane to roll and go out of control. Unfortunately, when I go into the options to try to rectify this issue it's not showing that the pedals aren't controlling ANYTHING. I included a screenshot with this post. The pedals ARE showing up, but all of the inputs are completely blank even though they're clearly working in the game. I'm a little vexed as to how I need to rectify this issue. I've tried using profiles for the pedals but even when I load a profile, they controls are still totally blank. Any input/advice would be GREATLY appreciated because I'm aching to finally get back to playing all of my DCS modules again.

Hey guys, I need a little advice, my last joystick (Microsoft Force Feedback II) broke a while back so I haven't been able to play any of the DCS titles that I own which has been driving me absolutely insane because I love playing them. I'm finally at the point where I can afford to drop a decent chunk of change on a new setup but I'm not quite sure what to go with so to speak. I've always wanted one of the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog setups with a set of rudder pedals, but they seem to be sold out absolutely EVERYWHERE, even if you CAN find them the third party sellers are price gouging like crazy, I've seen them selling them for upwards of $1,300 when they normally go for $450. So I'm wondering if you guys could recommend a good alternative setup?
-
Hey guys, I've been using a Force Feedback 2 for years and years, unfortunately it ended up biting the dust about 18 months ago, and I've been pulling my hair out from not being able to play any of my DCS games. My end goal is to get the full HOTAS Warthog, along with pedals etc. Unfortunately I can't afford to go all in at the moment, so I'm looking for a stick that I can get for under $150 or so to use temporarily. So long story short I'm just wondering if you guys might be able to recommend a decent stick to use in the meantime. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Will the Skies over Normandy be populated?!
derbarbarian replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I'm a bit late to the discussion here, but I do have a few thoughts, I'm not sure if many of you have tried the game Aces High, while the graphics are a bit "old school" the game itself is pretty damn fun, it would be awesome if they could get something like that going here, obviously the number of aircraft are limited at this point, but in the long run it would certainly be fun as hell and it would probably attract tons of people. -
Hey guy's sorry for bumping this again, so my chair broke and I ended up falling backwards onto my Sidewinder 2 and breaking the control stick off, so now I'm in actual need of a new stick, I checked out the X52 w/ throttle as well as the X55, @ $200 that's a bit out of my price range at the moment unfortunately, are there any decent sticks say around $100 that could get me through until I can pony up enough $$ for an X55?
-
I'm not 100% sure the motor is dead, it was more of an assumption, when I plug the power cable into the stick it starts making a very loud squealing sound when I move it across the axis's the sound intensifies greatly. So I assumed it was a motor issue. Albeit I found it a bit strange because one day it was working absolutely fine, the next it was fubar.
-
Yeah, I fear that as well.. Started with the Original Force feedback in the mid 90's, moved onto the force feedback 2 & Force Feedback Wheel.. I'm sure it'll just take a bit of time to get used to a new stick, I've been playing Mig 21 & 190 without plugging the power into the stick, so it's literally like using a wet noodle. The feedback itself isn't a big deal, it's just a matter of having a firm/stiff stick not something that wobbles all over the place.
-
Hey guy's, I've been using a Force Feedback 2 for ages, the motors inside the stick finally stopped working, so I'm hunting for a new one, I would love to get the HOTAS Warthog, unfortunately my budget is about $100.. Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

Hey guy's have a question about the IR missiles, I can't seem to get them to work, I setup a custom mission with the IR missiles loaded out, I can get .4 away from the target but I don't seem to get any sort of tone indicating a lock like I get with the SARH missiles, so I figure I must be doing something wrong, but I have no idea what it is, I've tried to do the tutorial a few times but mine seems to be buggy, once we're all setup to fire the missiles the controller says that a target will fly in front of me, nothing has ever shown up, I click over to the external view and there aren't any jets anywhere to be seen. Assistance would be most graciously appreciated!
