  1. You wont have to re-download the A10 after every update, but if the A10 or DCS World get an update, you will have to download that. They are usually anywhere between 1GB - 3GB However, how are you living off of 5GB per month, and being a gamer? Amazing.
  2. Hahahaha! Hey, at least I made it out of the cockpit! The engineers will fix everything else.
  3. Now that the community has told me how to properly handle and engine fire, DCS is going to give me some random practice!
  4. Hehe! It was close, I was about 100 feet from going around, or at least trying. @Hammond - the others would not come down, and the left rear wouldn't go up.
  5. 1. No. I think jumping into the A10C first is the way to go. Then getting CA, then FC3 if you want. Personally I have yet to mess with FC3, so dont take my word on that order exactly... 2. Yes. It's not hard, but complex. Lots to remember. The best thing to do is read the Quick Start Manual, and that will get you popin turrets of your foes in no time. (Get it!? It's a joke... instead of popin heads... it's turrets... cuz they're tanks... so they.... Okay, I'll leave.) 3. I cannot answer this, I have yet to go online. Someone else can take care of this for ya! :) 4. If you get a HOTAS, you will barely need a keyboard and mouse. If you do not get a HOTAS, you will need a lot of keyboard and mouse. Either work fine, but if you are willing to get serious, you will want a HOTAS. Also, the next best thing besides a Warthog would be an x52, which DOES have a twist for rudder. Maybe look into that? 5. I am unsure of any of that stuff, someone else may know how to take care of that. Good luck, and happy landings! :)
  6. Could no have put it better myself! ^ +1 for you.
  7. I think the stress on a HOTAS by the community is a little loud. Personally, I am fine with reaching forward and pushing a button on my keyboard. It doesn't really effect me, and makes me feel like I am kinda touching the consoles of the aircraft a little. A HOTAS is great, dont get me wrong, I would love to have one. But the fact that people stress NEEDING one, is a little, meh, in my opinion. If you really get into it, it's worth the investment, but if you are just wanting to learn, and get started before you start throwing hundreds more dollars at the sim, I personally think holding off on the HOTAS is the way to do it.
  8. TL;DR - Controls are easy enough to use with a keyboard, I dont use a HOTAS (yet) and haven't had too much trouble (I'm almost as new to this as you), I recommend you do not like that scare you away. Ah yes. The same issue I had. Since I dont have a HOTAS, and am still debating on getting one, I am in your boat. I have to use the keyboard for a lot of stuff. However, as long as you map out trim, and autopilot to your stick, the plane will fly itself as you get all the nitty gritty done. There is a lot of clickable in the cockpit, but for simple munitions dispencing, the only things you really need to hit on the keyboard are the camera slewing for the Mavs and Pods which is (.)(,)(/)( ; ) (like arrow keys, but not), setting your SOIs with H,K,and U. and the rest is pretty clickable. I would say dont let the controls discourage you. I have not found them to be an issue yet, and I am almost as new as you. Then, in the future if you're really getting into it, get a Warthog, or x52 HOTAS, and you'll be flying like the pros. Hope that helps PS: Mind if I steal your idea for the keyboard layout? I love that, and it would help me so much since I have a spare keyboard! :D
  9. Open DCS World, and near the bottom of the main screen, you will see "Module Manager" option. Click that, and log into the Eagle Dynamics store with the account information you created when purchasing the A10.
  10. The best thing you can do to really get the most out of the first few flights is take notes on the Quick Start Manuel (44 pages). It's what someone told me to do last night, and I am now shooting Mavericks, and making gun runs like I was born to. After that, play the tutorials, and try to memorize the start up procedure, as well as shut down. This part isn't really mandatory, but satisfying for us hardcore simmers. Finally, run around and get a feel for each system. Look around, and find something you wana learn about. Tinker with it for a while, and then go look it up in the full manual, and figure out how to use it. It should be pretty easy by the time you finish the Quick Start Manual. It's great fun, and I would say, if you are a HARDCORE simmer, you should definitely get it. But if you are looking to get it to play in "Game" mode, you are paying for a ton of features you will never use, and I would not spend the money on it if that is your goal.
  11. I'm still learning. I dont know how to start up, or shut down yet, so I kinda just winged it.
  12. I didnt see a dedicated video thread for A10C, so if I am missing it, I apologize, and feel free to move this topic if you must. That out of the way, here was my first crash landing EVER in the sim. This is where my real world private pilot's certificate comes in a little handy! :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3paq3D9iWQ&feature=youtu.be
  13. I was indeed talking DCS A10C, sorry about that. But I have a news update, just dropped my first 4 armor targets with Mavericks. You have no idea how happy I am! It's so awesome to finally be making some progress! Everything seems so easy now! SOOO HAPPY! Now I just have to start practicing CCIP/CCRP since those are the two I am having trouble with accuracy wise. Thanks a million everyone. More suggestions (specifically bomb oriented) are totally welcome! :D
  14. I have NO intentions of giving up on the A10. I am on page 4 of hand written notes from the quick start guide, and I am jumping right back in that beast when I am done reading this. I love the A10, and REALLY wana fly it. However, I've had Flaming Cliffs 1 since 2004, and already have FC3 installed! :) I will focus on that after I try the A10 again with my new found knowledge. Thank you to Tintifax for suggesting the Quick Start, much easier to digest this, than the OTHER manual... ;)
  15. Hey all- So I've been trying REALLY hard to get into DCS, and I am not discouraged yet. However, I am still struggling to learn the A10, which is the first aircraft I want to learn. However, I feel like it's too much of a learning curve, and I need to start elsewhere for a bit. So my question is, between EVERY module, what aircraft should I learn first, that would help me jump into the A10 better? OR, do I just stick with the A10, and keep trugging away with what I know so far? I dont want to read pages upon pages of manuals... I know that's part of the sim process, but reading is just not something that I am good at, nor do I learn well from, and the tutorials are somewhat bugged, or I am missing something, and they wont proceed (specifically the LIGHTNING POD) tutorial... Anyway, should I learn a new aircraft first? (I would rather this option so I have SOMETHING to play with) or should I find a way to learn how to A10. x) Thanks all! ~Jet
  16. Oops. I think you forgot something there, mate.
  17. Well, I just did some training in the A10, I am now going to head out for a VERY long CA battle with me in the CAS seat. God I love this, I have NO REGRETS with buying CA.
  18. Do you have TrackIR? If so, make sure there is no sun behind you, or bright objects. Or unplug other controller devices.
  19. Hm... that's a little disappointing. I was hoping you would all say there is an all new aircraft coming. vOv. Oh well.
  20. ED didnt make the Huey!? *searches forums, and sees 3rd party devs topic* MIND-BLOWN Also - Badger - Dont they already have those? At least the F-15 in FC3?
  21. Hey all- Now that Eagle Dynamics is done with the UH-1H, do we know what's next on the aircraft list? (crossing my fingers for a few ideas)
  22. A ground commander wouldnt be controlling aircraft, would he? Isn't that what a FAC is for? Or are there no FACs in CA?
  23. Hell, I dont even know how to change to intercom! XD
  24. @MWD - Uh oh. I am not sure how to shut down, or start up yet. Damn. @ZIM - If you go in the map, you can click a friendly unit's symbol, and then the tank icon on the top bar. Or at least that's what I've been doing, and it works okay... Haven't tried driving yet, which is next on my list.
