  1. I've heard about this new model for the F-15 by Walmis over at lockonfiles. Quick question, what is different with this model vs the stock? Is it appearance, or flight modelling etc? Never really says over at the d/l.
  2. I'm flying an F-15, which is supposed to be easiest and I have icons on. I can get kills and survive bvr, but within 5 nm, forget bout it.
  3. Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Just want to play all the missions in the campaigns in any order. Sorry for the tirade, was getting whooped last night... again. :cry: Some day I'll get better.... :lol: Maybe not..
  4. Is there a cheat to play all stock campaign missions? Also, have i mentioned I really hate this game? Dying 80+% of the time really blows. Actually, make that 95%+.
  5. Thanks, that's the answer I was wondering. So flying 30 deg it is. Another question, how do you know if you're too far outside the 30 deg or whether he is just beaming and chaffing?
  6. I just mean wait till you get behind em. I usually just fire em off, and miss. I doubt the AI even flinched. They did use a few flares tho.
  7. Playing against AI, they pretty much always see you. Wouldn't it be better to save the sidewinders, rather than waste em?
  8. What do you mean by know what you're doing? You mean just make sure they are slow before firing straight on? It's a real pain when they have those pesky R-73's.
  9. I understand the radar is a cone ~60 degrees in front of the plane. However, does the strength vary within this cone? Say I fire a sparrow. Is there less of a chance to lose radar lock if I keep the plane directly in front of me, rather than say 30 degrees off nose? Or is the radar strength pretty consistent within the cone. Seems like I turn to put him 20 degrees off nose, I see the box start flashing and poof, wasted sparrow.

  11. I'm guessing this has probably been talked about quite a bit, but these sidewinders seem almost worthless. I probably have only a 25% kill ratio (just guessing here) with these things. I almost don't fire them anymore unless I'm right behind them less than 2 nm. Any tips to increase the probability of these things?

  13. Welp, not sure the F-15 pit with no hook is worth it. Likewise, not sure the Su-33 pit is very immersive in an American bird since you spend 98% of time in the pit anyhoo. Thanks for the info. Looks like it's back to WOE to get my F-18 fix. Thanks again.
  14. bummer, which ones use the F-15 pit? And are there any carrier missions for them? i'm assuming it copies over the F-15? How hard is it to switch back? How do you get the carrier ops and this patch?
  15. Looking around at lockonfiles, there are quite a few F-18 mods. Can anyone recommend one. I run 1.12a FC. I'm thinking the best mod would be: 1) Replaces Su33 for carrier ops 2) Uses F-15 cockpit (wouldn't feel right in a russion pit) 3) And probably have carrier missions to fly it. I saw the Crimea one looks pretty cool, but I think it uses the Su 33 pit? Any suggestions?
  16. So this is a bug? But it doesn't seem to happen all the time, just seems to happen more times than it should. That's interesting because I would play the same missions and have missiles, Amraam's mind you, just plain ole miss, and it's usually 2 or 3 of em. Then, I play the same mission and I get hits by doing the exact same thing. Didn't know if it is a random generator or something. I'm not saying I should hit all the time, but just seems way to random. It does seem like the higher I am, the less success I have. I suppose it could be because the SU34's are in the mountains, but the one I'm firing at stays locked the entire time.
  17. Thanks for the advice. It's completely frustrating when you fire 5 amraams at 2 su34's and only 1 hits. Needless to say, you're pretty much out of missiles and die.
  18. What strategies do most employ with firing missiles? I guess 2 questions? 1) Better to be at altitude, above or below? 2) What intervals, i.e. fire missile 1 at 10 nm, fire missile 2 15 secs later at 7 nm etc? Reason I ask is I still play the stock F-15 scramble mission and I swear it seems like I have a better chance of hitting when I am co altitude with the bandit. Every mission I am higher then the Su-34's, they avoid my amraams (I'm thinking higher = more range). On one mission I fired 5 amraams, all within 10nm and only hit 1. The one Su-34, I fired 1 amraam at 11 nm, a second at 8.5 nm, I turned and did a circle, fired a third at ~6-7 nm and missed on all three. The next mission, I went coaltitude and buried both of em with only 3 shots, didn't even need the third. Also, not sure what most due for intervals.
  19. Sorry, misunderstood when you said external. I use external once in a while, but all my gameplay is from internal. I thought you meant visual vs using the screen on the the left (can't remember the name, HDD maybe). Gotta admit, I did try a mission or two from external, and avoiding missiles did seem easier.
  20. Nope, it's external view. Just seems like you lose lock quicker with the F-15. Maybe it's just me. What kills me is when I fire 2 missiles and they both miss. Then I'm screwed as he just fires off missile after missile and I can't get another one off. If my first 1 of 2 hit, I'm ok. If they miss, which they do alot, then it's over.
  21. Whew, glad you have a sense of humor. I was really peeved. Still am. There's definitely been enough of practice. Just wish I could start getting better. It ain't much fun when you never, and I mean never, survive. I do alright on 1 vs 1, but anything more than that and forget about it.
  22. Ok, I just admit. I suck at this game. This isn't fun anymore. Gotta admit, never been so frustrated by a game/sim. I haven't survived one mission yet. No, wait there was that one. A-10, F-15, Su -27 don't matter. I've watched the tutorials. No go. This just plain old blankety blank sucks!! Sorry, I just needed to vent before I break my joystick and among other things. I HATE THIS blankety blank GAME!!!!!!! There, I feel better. Now back to it. :pilotfly:
  23. I gotta admit, I haven't tried turning abeam of the bandit without firing the sparrow. Maybe I lose lock because of evasive maneuvers or chaff. I'll try to see how far off I can keep radar lock on the F-15. Although, it still seems like I can't turn that far away without losing lock compared to other planes. I'll check it out.
  24. I guess it's not the sparrow I'm questioning. It's the F-15's radar and ability to keep a lock. For example, I'm facing the enemy and have lock, I turn maybe 30-40 degrees, anything beyond I lose lock. In an Su-27, seems like I can turn almost 80 degrees and still maintain lock. Maybe I'm missing something.
  25. I'm trying to dogfight in an F-15 with Aim7's. However, it seems like you can't turn more than say 30 deg away from the bandit and you lose missile lock? Seems like with Su-27, you can turn almost 90 degrees and still maintain lock. Seems very easy to lose lock.
