  1. Same thing with me. See my sig line for my PC specs. Not to shabby yet my FPS dropped from 40 down to 11 as soon as I started into a mission. I just gave up as there's nobody around to answer questions about Helios. I've decided to build a partial cockpit and use USB IO boards to communicate with my PC...unless of course I can can some reasonable help running Helios. Sorry that I can't be more help but at least I now know I'm not the only one with this same problem.
  2. I have a second screen now operating with Helios driving all of the gauges. It works great. I used a new version of EMC, started a new file, dragged all the displays I wanted onto my second screen and saved it as "MyHelios" Went to DCS, Options, Monitorsetup and guess what...the file I created is not there so I cannot pick it and run the displays. It is in the folder DCSworld/config/monitorsetup when I check with explorer but it does not show up in DCS options menu.:( What have I done wrong? Running latest version of DCSworld.
  3. Will this also work with the previous version of DCS World/A-10C v1.2.2.7570 as well?
  4. I just downloaded HawgTouch to run with DSC A-10 1.2.2.7579 and when I started it, it says under "Data Export" in red letters "OUTDATED" When I press the update button I get an error message. It looks like it wants to take me to a web site that no longer exsits. Is this software still active or should I try and find something else to handle my instruments on a separate monitor. I had read that there was going to be a manual but I have never found anything. I am not sure what I am doing as the info on these threads is so back and forth as to mean very little to anyone who has limited computer and programming skills. I sure would like some help or direction as to how I might proceed to have my gauges on a second monitor. Thanks.
  5. I have had a quick glance at Helios and Hawgtouch for exporting cockpit data as in gauges and MFD's to a second screen on the same PC. I would really like to try that but my screens are already spoken for. There is no more room and I can't add another screen as my graphics card is maxed out.:( Is it possible to export those same gauges and such to my laptop on my WIFI network. Actually I could hard wire the laptop instead of using wireless if that would help speed things up or remove any potential latency. One more question. Is there any big difference between Hawgtouch and Helios. They look to do about the same thing. Is there a preference on which one to use based on what I would like to do.
  6. I have the full iPad iControl DCS running on my iPad and it works realy well. I was wondering if it is possible to provide software that would do exactly the same thing but instead of the information going to my iPad I want it to go to my Laptop. I know there are software packages out there that will do similar kinds of things but whats nice about the iControl App is that its idiot proof (well almost) and I would really like to have all of this on a larger screen such as my laptop instead of my iPad. I don't want to get into modifying files and installing complex software just to make this happen. BTW, the iControl App is excellent. Keep up the good work.
  7. I've been reading this thread with a growing interest and also a sense of dread as I think I am about to answer a new calling... building my own A10 cockpit sim. Once I start down this road I know there will be no turning back so I am starting to gather my research info on construction techniques etc. I that light I was wondering if any of the individual cockpit instrument panels (ie electrical, VHF, UHF, APU, Fuel etc) have been drawn up in AutoCAD and if so are they available to use? I have a small CNC mill and an extensive AutoCAD background and this would be a real timesaver. If not I will draw them up as I need them but I thought I would ask first before I start, just in case. Thanks and BTW I am amazed at what people are building. All excellent projects I must say.
  8. Thats how mine is always configured, but no joy. Can't see a single server to connect to. Login works fine. As a matter of fact everything works fine except there are no servers listed??????????:(
  9. I haven't actually used multiplayer yet but I have opened up that page in DCS World 1.2.2.7570 and there were always a list of available servers to join. Now that I am looking to join a server and try out multiplayer I have a problem. I openned up the multiplayer page, logged on and that worked fine. It said "connecting to master..." as usual and then the page with all the servers comes up except there are no servers listed anymore. Its an empty page with all of the columns there but nothing actually listed. It says I am logged on and it recogonized me. I tried the search button. That didn't help. Its always been set "to internet" and "connect by IP" etc. I haven't changed anything since the last time I accessed this page yet there are no servers listed. I also double checked my firewall and it has DCS set as an exception... again as usual. Still nothing. What have I done wrong or what has changed? Anybody know whats casuing this? :helpsmilie:
  10. Good for you Matz. I know what you mean by this sense of accomplishment driving you further and further into the sim. It keeps feeding you to move forward. I finally got my rig up to snuff with a new graphics card and that resolved so many problems I was having try to land and find stuff to kill. I did the same as you by setting up a mission to take off, kill stuff and land. It's short and it allows me to repeat the same set of commands to target, lock on and shoot with several weapons systems and then practice the landing sequence. I don,t seem to die landing anymore but i must admit there are times when i am missing a few parts of plane when all is said and done.:music_whistling: Repetition is the key! Keep at it.
  11. Actually I'm now down to 45fps inside the cockpit but still over 60fps outside. I turned up the water to medium because I like to fly close to the deck and turned HDR on to normal. I don't know if the sliders for tree and shrub visibility have much impact on fps but I set them 75% over to the right and it sure made a visual impact. I love seeing all of those trees on the slopes. It feels much more realistic this way. What about that little bit of streaming coming off the wing tips? I don't seem to be able to see anything. Is there a button or slider I missed? Anyways, I am way to happy with this setup. Everything is smooth. There are no jitters or graphic abnormalities. The only disturbing images I've seen so far are those of my A-10C diving and crashing into the ground from not pulling up soon enough. But the graphics card isn't going to be able to fix that.:pilotfly:
  12. I just installed an EVGA 2gb Nvidia GTX 670 after using the on board GPU for the last month and I just wanted to say WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Graphics are all maxed out in the options page except HDR and water is only medium. I don't care for HDR that much personally. So I went from 15fps (but it was a smooth 15fps:P) to over 80fps and outside the cockpit 125+++fps. Unbelievable. This is running three monitors. A total of 1200x 4850 there abouts. I am running 1.2.2. A-10C and 1.2.2.7570 DCS World. This is a very impressive piece of hardware. I think I will keep it.
  13. I'm just a new guy at this and have only had TrackIR for about two weeks now so I can relate. Gerry Abbots vid got me started in the right direction and then after I turned down the speed so it wouldn't take off like a freight train when I moved... well what can I say. I can't live without it now. I started out very frustrated for the first few days but I perservered as every video or track I watched of an A-10C being flown, it was apparent they were using TrackIR. If I wanted to be even slightly proficient in flying this beast I needed to be able to look around hands free. So don't give up. Go over that vid many times and configure the software as Gerry set it up and use that as a starting point. I believe you can even download his profile. Then fine tune it to your taste and you will be very pleased. as everyone has said, it just takes a bit of time to get used to it.
  14. Thanks very much. I must say I have been made to feel quite welcome here.:) And Lange I imagine I won't want to part with it unless you want to trade me for a GTX 690:music_whistling: . Once its installed I will do a before and after analysis to see the benefits more so for the people here looking for similar answers as I was. I was into my tech guy yesterday and we have decided to install a EVGA GTX 670 next week and maybe add another 8GB to the MOBO. Has anyone any idea as to whether a video card with more than 2 GB of ram on board will make a difference or is the standard 2 GB enough to do a good job. I had read an article on one of those hardware testing sites. They did some testing of graphics intensive games using nvidia GTX cards with 4GB of memory. What they found was most games in that catagory rarely use more that 2GB. Now they didn't include our favourite sim in the list of test subjects and DCS A-10 has to be one of THE most graphics intense products I've seen so I was curious if anyone knew whether the sim would actually benifit from the extra ram on the card.
  15. I think the statement "Ignorence is bliss" might apply here. I guess when you haven't had 50 or 60 fps to begin with you don't know what your your missing. I am hoping to be very much impressed by this upgrade. I have no idea what 50fps will even look like on the monitor so there is definitately some anticipation mounting. I was looking over Cali's specs and they are very close to mine other than the CPU is a bit different and the GTX670 is performing as I would have hoped. Thats encouraging to the point that I have enough confidence in that card that I have put it at the top of the list. I was a little concerned with the GTX680 and some of the reports I had read as well as the cost. There was some concern that its performance in DCS World was maybe not as consitant through the various machine configurations compared to the GTX670. I guess if there is no major concern I haven't found yet, I think the nvidia GTX670 is going to be the card of choice and most likely an Asus as they seam to have the best cooling system and quitest fans. Thanks everyone for your input. I really appreciate it. I must say this is a very hepfully community. I am going to enjoy my stay here.
  16. Lange, what has really drawn me to this sim is the idea that it is virtually photo realistic. It adds such a visual sense of realism that no other sim has ever offered. So much so that I am willing to put in the hours just to learn how to fly the A-10C so I can enjoy getting lost in a sense of actually flying it. Thats my goal. Then there's the part of course about blowing up stuff. However Peter, (thanks for the links) with most of the graphics turned down except textures turned to high I am averaging 15fps. Everything seams smooth enough and I don't have any problems flying and I have no crashes nor any strange things happening. My main concern is spending $500 on a GTX 670 and still having 15fps. I didn't think my CPU would have been an issue as its an i7-3770K. Thats getting pretty high on the performance scale so I didn't consider it would be a bottleneck of any kind. It's going to be difficult trying the test as I can't turn up the graphics at all with my present GPU. In fact I really don't need to do an evaluation at this point to detemine if a GPU upgrade is necessary. Its on the board so say no more. It's really doing a splendid job considering what I have asked it do. Its performing way above its pay grade but its just not cut out for this kind of work. So do I put in a GTX 650 at $150 or go all out for a GTX 680 at $500 or maybe step back a bit to a GTX 670 which might be perfectly fine running two monitors. I just don't know what I will gain in perfomance. And that means both eye candy and at least reasonable fps so I can at least run away in a battle with out crashing my plane:pilotfly:. Thanks guys for your input.
  17. Hi guys This is my first post and I must say this is the most awsome flight sim I have ever played. But I am a little disturbed after going through a lot of the posts on fps and general performance. There is a huge differnce in in perfomance between players and I can't seam to pin point what is causing this. There are guys with hot graphics cards yet slow fps. And other with the same graphics cards cards and similar machine and super fps. I am researching this to decide if I should spend $500 on an Asus GTX670 or GTX680 nvidia for my machine. I know I need an upgrade as my GPU is on the MB but I could spend a lot less on a card if I am going to see a limited to no performance increase at all. I really love this sim and I have just started to lay out some cash on Hotas and Track IR. I want to go with VAC and may be multiple monitors but not in a big way. Maybe just a large main with small MFD's and then get into some multi player stuff. In terms of time I have already put in over 40 hours of training and who kows how much in reading and watching videos just to learn. This sim has enormous potential but it could also be a big waste of money if I'm not careful. I sure would like some input from some of the more experienced pilots or computer jocks out there so I can map out the best approach to equipment requirements as I haven't had too much luck pinning down the formula as to what makes this sim run well. As you can see from my signature below, I have reasonably good platform to work with. This is actually my work machine. I do all my design work on it. I work exclusively in AutoCAD and during off hours its my play machine. My office is at home so I'm the boss and he lets me play when ever I want. He's a pretty decent guy when it come to flight sims.:smilewink:. So I hope you can guys can help me out on this and then you'll see me as a life member here. Thanks so much.
