  1. Racoon,

Would you be able to tell us what date the Normandy map is being built around? Just wondering which of the ALGs might be included and at what point of the invasion it has been constructed around. I don't recall seeing that information anywhere yet. This would help us plan ahead and give us an idea of what to expect. Missions take some time to create so it would be nice to start forming some ideas and let the creativity start flowing. :) I understand if it has not all been decided yet.

Also, have trains in Normandy been confirmed?

  2. Looks really great, guys. I can respect the desire to "get it right" and that is the reputation DCS has come to enjoy, despite any timeline criticisms. Thank you for all of the hard work behind the scenes and as one of the pre-orders, I am very excited to try it out.

Also, great work, Chuck. Was a good read and very informative.

  3. Indeed.

How on earth is a K4 "above the Mustang when engagement happens", unless you were to start at the same airfield (at the same time)?

If you have the height advantage you can even dictate whether to engage or not.

Quite a number of answers to this one.

Firstly, dropping two M64s from 10,000 feet is less than ideal. Not every mission is a fighter sweep or a bomber escort. Now, there are plenty of ways to still accomplish this with top cover, but staying at altitude is not always an option.

Secondly, spotting aircraft below you in DCS leaves a bit to be desired. Most descend in hopes of seeing some action while flying combat. It's just the nature of things on MP. AI bombers would/will help adjust the engagement altitudes a bit.

Thirdly, the 109 climbs like a bat out of hell. Think you have a chance of climbing away to "ideal altitude" in a P-51D with a K4 in chase? Just because it performs better up high doesn't mean it can get there easier. It takes work to get the Stang up there. The 109 is basically effortless in the climb and a good zoom climb can place you above a Mustang almost instantly.

I'm not complaining about anything, just answering your question.

  4. We are a passionate (and competitive) bunch. And we love our WWII aircraft, that is for sure. thumbup.gif

Thing is this. The Mustang is literally a ton heavier than the 109, and they have roughly the same amount of power available (even with 72").

THIS, aside from all of the other banter, is IMO the crux of the frustrations here. These aircraft were made to serve distinctly different roles and built with hugely different guidelines and requirements. We will never see a perfect balance between them. I honestly don't think the MP increase will make a huge difference on the outcome of most duels, but why not add it? I think it is a given that this is a sim (at least the WWII part) showcasing the premiere warbirds of their time. I have flown all of the available WWII DCS aircraft but I have a special love for the Mustang and she just feels "familiar" to me. It will be interesting to see what is used for the Normandy variant we have been told about. Yes, it is true that a 1 on 1 match-up with an able pilot in a K4 is a hair raising experience but I'm quite sure that is how it would probably shake out in real life. The truth is that we fly these planes beyond what most of the pilots even dreamed of trying (as actual lives were on the line) and in many cases it is uncharted theoretical water. These encounters remain fictional no matter how many changes are made. The "historical" part of the experience will never be identical to real life for a multitude of reasons and I hope that can be realized without hurting the community participation or excitement too much.

We are all here, above all, to enjoy WWII aviation. Here's to hoping it stays enjoyable.

  5. This is a big big no no. Overboosting is very much modelled in the P-51 and will damage and then kill your engine.

Try not to set your MP above corrisponding RPM unless for short peroid if absolutely needed. For example if at 2700rpm dont go above 46mp until you set 3000rpm.

    Posting from my phone.

    Agreed.

Of course you can adjust engine settings to counter heat problems. For instance, if you take-off with full power, it's in your best interest to reduce power soon after wheels up.

  6. I'm not so sure the auto radiator function is "malfunctioning". As stated in the past by Yo-Yo there is a delay involved in the operation of the coolant radiator door. Because of this delay, rapid power changes can cause heat issues. I rarely manually open the rads unless I expect some slow/high power situations or extended time on the ground with the engine running.

With decent airspeed (200+) the auto setting is fine.

EDIT: After taking another look at your screenshot I realized you weren't even using Auto. Also Keep in mind it take a good amount of time to manually open the coolant door fully.

  7. Hi,

I definetly would like to purchase the Dora, but every time I check the servers, I do not see too much people flying ww2 a/c´s.

I intend to fly it online only, but at the current price, it wouldn´t make any sense if this is not possible with others.

I understand you fly online as I intend to, so, Am I mistaken or I just checked at the wrong moment?

I would appreciate your opinion before deciding to hit the button.

    Thank you very much.

    Alejo

You are always welcome to visit the Dogs of War server. We could definitely use more Axis pilots to fly with. The participation varies a great deal but there are still a good number of us who fly MP and I expect the numbers to improve with the release of the Spit & Normandy.

    Cheers.

  8. Upuaut's mod has a FlaK8.8, but I thought that was only a static model...

    http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=124251

Interesting. I placed a few on the map to see them and they are definitely animated... and a direct hit has the expected result.:spam_laser:

The gun behavior is similar to the Bismark/Hood mods (You can see the rounds in the air if they are close and they eventually impact the ground somewhere) but no air busts like you'd expect from Flak.

  9. On mine is USA, Japan and few others. Vehicle/AIR DEFENSE

I'll check for mod possibility. Did Markindle's ship mods add something else??

EDIT: I found it. It's in the MODS directory and named FLAK_88. I don't even remember installing it... but it was a nice surprise. I tried to find out who created it, but no luck.

  10. Has the 88 always been available in the ME? I don't recall adding any mods for it specifically. I noticed it last night and had to check it out. The behavior of the shells needs work but the model is pretty good and animated nicely.

It's a big improvement for custom missions with flak and no proper source or origin.

  11. I'd vote for custom nose art over custom skins. Auto upload a client's nose art file from /Users/DCS/... of a specific file size limit and resolution. Livery/skin selection should be determined by the mission, at least in situations where people want things to appear realistic. We'd also need a decent selection of good non-marked skins that are included with the modules to eliminate all of the downloading and setup woes.

  12. They have been at lost for a few years, but 2015 saw them making some benefits. (source : their 2015 financial report)

I've seen companies "on the edge" staying alive and some other "leaders" getting sold like bread.

2016 hasn't been very promising for Mad Catz.

    http://www.polygon.com/2016/2/8/10939752/mad-catz-executive-board-changes-rock-band-4-earnings

especially troubling is this bit "we took issue with the inconsistent quality of the Mad Catz-designed peripherals" That seems to be the popular opinion of their stuff these days.

  13. Hmmm.... Been on several times and finding anyone in any WWII planes at all (let a lone a dedicated WWII server) has been difficult... Am I supposed to do something other than use the multiplayer menu choice to get to a server?

Also use the "favorite" function on the server list to keep track of the known WWII servers. They are situated in a variety of different time zones and can be a bit unpredictable as far as peak activity.

  14. I am using my airplane to its maximum potential, or rather trying to. Also I am not afraid so say that I loose quite a lot. It is the part of the game. Nobody should feel ashamed that they lost. Also, you play with your rules on your server and your mission. How is that something to be "proud" off? And sure we can duel. I would love to. Maybe I can learn some more. :3

I wasn't attacking you. Sorry if I came across like that. I think you hit my competitive "nerve" :joystick: All I really wanted to know was if anyone is seeing any ill effects of using WEP these days. (Aside from heat issues of course) If not, then by all means, use it!
