Frosto, your comment hit home with this ole Nam vet. That is why I own the Huey. I have visions of background music of Little Richard singing "Long Tall Sally" and a Huey with a surf board strapped to it with the caption "I LOVE THE SMELL OF NAPALM IN THE MORNING" on it.....;) All fun stuff aside, I agree with the new (modified) engine but we are talking major undertaking. All types of sims need to start doing a better job of using much more multithreading and putting those loafing multiple CPU cores to work better. The results would be amazing. But we wait for evolution on that one --- a slow process. In the shorter term, we have some new modules coming. I for one, want to see those (especially the C and E versions of the F-15) perform to specification. No "nerfed down" planes in terms of speed and altitude capability. DCS is just too good to ruin the immersion with performance shortfall. This is an important issue -- even our beloved A-10C which I just cherish, is a little short in that regard, for example. Anyway, just a couple of comments and suggestions. Thanks to the DCS team and their partners for a great sim which just keeps getting better. Cheers --- Bob --- :D:D

Choices Versus Problems ?? HELP !!!!
apollomaker replied to apollomaker's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hello Ericoh -- thank you for your recommendation and it sounds like you are very pleased with the TMW. I certainly will consider it, but I do fly many different A/C both in DCS and FSX. I also need a stick that is precise with small movement input on the axes as I fly helos heavily and need this kind of precision without sticking. Thanks Again for your helpful comments --- Bob --- :D -
Howdy All --- my old, trusty Saitek AV8R-01 has been around for a long time and served me well. But I am considering moving up a notch or so and getting a new stick. A number to choose from at various price points, but wow, the PROBLEMS that even the most expensive Thrustmasters appear to be having....I am scared. I could sure use some help from owners with experience with these newer devices and some comments on these issues. At one time, I had a Saitek X52 system (way back) at it would not hold a zero on two axes...just mechanically sloppy. Anyway, I hope the newer technology has found ways around these older issues without creating too many new issues ;) What say guys about a recommendation or two and some positive commentary? Many thanks in advance. Cheers --- Bob :D

Great Expectations Hello Ron and all at RAZBAM ----- Thank You Ron for the detailed introduction and explanation about who and what RAZBAM is and what the status of your F-15E project is in general. For what its worth, there will always be plenty of market for DCS products of the A-10C quality and detail level. And you are fortunate to have the license for the F-15E, a huge hole in the DCS offering. I know I am very anxious for your release of this aircraft. Thanks again for your candor and reassurance about the F-15E. Like many others, I continue to wait. Cheers --- Bob --- :D

Hello Everyone --- ;) Like most newcomers, having an enjoyable time with DCS. I want to add FC3 (new release) if: (1) My installed version of LOMAC, version 1.02 will support it. (2) Hopefully some additional A-G weapons I like for the new F-15C are there. Besides the three A-A missles, what A-G weapons are functional/selectable in FC3 for the F-15C ??? Most likely this is not the case, but all the earlier versions of the plane (A/B/C/D) had the capability to support A-G weapon systems -- it was just not used much. I do have a real good paper from McDonald-Douglas (RIP) on this very subject. An interesting read. EDIT: It seems I asked some really difficult questions --- :-) Any feedback on these questions much appreciated. Thanks -- Bob -- :D

Thank You All Howdy All and again, thanks for the help and pointers. Not difficult to tell just how green I am on the UH-1 and where the resources are but now there is hope ;) I did manage to hack my way through some info and get the Huey started and the rotor up to operating speed. Now the challenge is trimming and general flight to start out. I will be jumping into the lessons and other info to get this part of the learning moving. Thanks again to all for your patience and kind inputs --- Bob :D

Hello All --- Just got my Huey and have been trying to find a simple start-up guide for start up from dark and cold state. I have been able to figure out how to get the turbine started, but cannot engage the rotor for some reason??? I know it is probably something simple but a clean start up write-up would be perfect for this UH-1 beginner. Any pointer to a procedure much appreciated -- Thanks --- Bob :D

Holy Moly!!! OK, now I understand what is happening and get the big pic. And thanks for the pointer to the third party information. Now it is a waiting game -- but that Razbam Eagle is a beauty and just the cat's meow for me -- well worth the wait. My favorite fighter platform. Thanks again for your patience and info!!! --- Cheers --- Bob :D

OK, that makes sense from the DCS viewpoint. They have a considerable leg up with the present F-15C in FC3. (I would assume). Going with the F-15E would probably require a start from scratch on the design. The "C" can do multi-role like the "E" but does not have quite the deep penetration capability of the "E". If the "C" has the quality of the A-10C, I will be quite pleased. Thanks for the info --- Bob :D

Thanks Hamblue ---- appreciate the feedback. Figured it would get picked up and eventually patched. Not a biggie but every little bit of video power helps when you need it ;) Cheers --- Bob :D

Hiya --- please pardon my ignorance, but you lost me here with the license issue. Does that mean that someone else is making an F-15E for DCS? I don't understand the implication of this license you are referring to. Any explanation appreciated. I agree too with the other post that we need a multirole fighter -- I am just partial to the F-15E. But the F-16 (various), etc would be fine too. We do have a BIG HOLE in the line up when it comes to USA multirole choices. Thanks again -- any insight appreciated --- Bob :D

Howdy All ----- Noticed on the latest rev version of the A-10C that came out with the 1.2.4 release, that the engine heat blooms are present at all times, even when these are turned off globally. These look really nice BUT they do consume video processing resources and it is nice to be able to cut them off when mission resource requirements are real heavy. Am I missing a way to cut them off optionally??? Any help here appreciated. Cheers --- Bob :D

Hello All ----- Now that Lock On 3 is out of beta, was wondering what the latest news is on the upcoming F-15 add-on?? Many of us are hoping it will be the F-15E as opposed to the C version, since we already have a C version in Lock On. So much more airplane. Also any info on the targeted intro date??? Very anxious crowd out here I am sure ;) Thanks --- Bob :D

Thanks for the Responses!! :) Hey, thanks to all for the feedback. Sorry it took me so long to get back but been away for a while. The suggested clearing methods worked great. Thanks Again for the help. Cheers, Bob :D

Howdy All --- Well, having fun learning the delivery of LGBs and came across a couple of observations and questions. Some of my missions are for practice such that I use unlimited weapons. With LGBs (and maybe other bombs too) I have found that during unlim mode, certain release configurations that can be programmed do not function and result in a RELEASE ABORTED banner on the MFDs. Other configurations work just fine. I have had good luck with release of a single, a pair, and a ripple of six singles (GBU-12) -- all in unlimited mode. In opposition, I cannot release a ripple of three pairs of GBU-12 without getting the RELEASE ABORTED issue. Again, all this so far has been done in unlimited weapon mode. I do get similar "lockups" with limited normal GBU-10 and GBU-12 munitions. This, for me, is a workable issue, but the BIG problem I have is that once the RELEASE ABORTED signal pops up, it appears to be locked for good and I must stop the A-10 flight to clear it, reload and fly the entire mission again. Am I missing a way to clear this condition in flight?? I have looked all over but no joy so far. Any help appreciated on this, as well as any comments about conditions to avoid in the release computer settings that might be problematic at this point. Many Thanks --- Bob :D

Weapon Loadouts SU-25T Quick Missions?
apollomaker replied to apollomaker's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Well, I did find that going to the mission editor/builder and making your own mission is apparently the easiest way to set your own loadouts. The editor is nicely set up to do just that. Thanks for all comments --- if someone finds another way, please post it. Thanks -- Bob -- :D -
Hi Guys --- Wondering if there is a way to specify weapon loadouts for the flyable SU-25T in quick missions? Have searched but no joy. Or is it necessary to go to "full" missions to get this capability? Comments appreciated -- Thanks -- Bob ;)

Hi Madone --- thanks for the info! Well I assume I have the latest version of DCS since I just downloaded it a couple of days ago. Also it is my understanding that the new versions have automatic updating as well so I am assuming I have the latest and greatest. Hope I am right about that :D Well, we will keep a watch for any improvements == and I am still perplexed about why adding the P-51 should take the performance down as it does for me. Oh well. Thanks Again --- Bob :D

Hello Rangi --- thanks for the reply and comments. Well, at least I am not alone with this issue. Think I am going to hold off adding any more modules until something is done or addressed relative to this issue. For me, it makes the DCS basically unusable. I wonder if users with just the A-10 added, see the same thing? Anyway, good luck. For me, it is a wait and see game now. Thanks --- Bob :D

Hello All --- new to DCS. Have it installed, and have been flying with the SU-25 during the learning process. I have noticed it takes some time for the game/simulation to recycle if you crash or get shot down, etc. Somewhat long, but reasonable. Yesterday, I added the P-51. Various things happened after what appeared to be a successful install. First these recycle times were extended significantly. Reaction to menus is slow and long. Also as I move the cursor around the DCS screen, Windows icons flash on and off --- yikes!!! Before the P-51 install, none of this was happening while flying the SU-25. Now it happens on BOTH aircraft. Any clues as to what is going on? I have a very fast machine. AMD FX-8120 at 3.9 GHz + 16GB ram and GTX 660i vid card. Cannot understand why everything changes after installing the P-51. I have RE-INSTALLED both DCS and the P-51 with exact same results. HELP!!! :D Thanks --- Bob

Help With SU-25T and Keyboard Functions
apollomaker replied to apollomaker's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Thanks ! Thank you for the response -- that did the trick. And of course, working through the manual will be quite helpful :) Cheers --- Bob :D -
Hello All --- well, finally installed DCS and all went well with the install. Now I am trying to get some functionality going with the included SU-25T but I am having trouble getting keyboard commands to work. I MUST be missing something but am still on the learning curve and a bit lost at the moment. What I am doing, is once DCS is loaded and ready to go from the home screen, I am going into INSTANT ACTION and selecting the dogfight mode for the SU-25T. All works OK up to this point but then many keyboard commands I am trying to use do not function....like "C" and "D" for weapon and gun selection. I know I must be missing a step, and cannot find the manual for the SU-25T that I see mentioned on the forums. I have also installed the training vids and have followed those as well --- no joy with just doing something simple like selecting the cannons and getting them to fire. HELP!!! Many Thanks --- Bob
