OTR #44 - Dive Bombing in the Bf 109 K-4
Splat replied to Bunyap's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Thanks for sharing; it's an excellent video! I'd been hoping that you'd be producing videos about the 109--keep up the good work! -
Diveplane has already been at work creating a DB605 sound mod:
-
For what it's worth, the manual suggests that the ailerons should droop with flap extension: As Siegfried noted, this doesn't seem to be represented in DCS; however, after some cursory research, it looks like only the E series used this system and that it was discarded on later variants. If so, then the behavior is accurately modeled in DCS and the manual is slightly misleading. Either way, if anyone has any more definitive sources, please share!

Thanks to everyone in this thread who suggested setting prop pitch to 12:00 on take-off. I was starting to get frustrated with getting the Bf 109 into the air (never had problems with the Dora), but for some reason increasing the prop pitch a touch made all the difference! (Also, setting minimum prop pitch on the landing approach really helps to slow the 109 down, so thank you for that suggestion as well.)

I tried using the hat clip once, but it kept slipping and springing off my hat. X)

I'll second the G930 recommendation. I've had mine for nearly two years now and love it. Whoever figured out how to get 7.1 surround sound to come out of two speakers is a wizard. My only gripe is that it becomes a little uncomfortable to wear with glasses after a couple of hours. Guess that's a queue to take a break.

I recently ordered X-Plane 10; glad that my cash went to someone with a sarcastic sense of humor. :)

Yes the Su-25 and the Su-25T have both had 6DoF cockpits confirmed. Here's the post on the Russian forums confirming the -T. "[...] P.S.: It turns out there are already plans for a Su-25T cockpit."
-
The F-15C and P-51D both have full 3D, 6DoF cockpits, but many of the FC3 aircraft currently only have 2D cockpits that only allow for view yaw, pitch, and 'zoom'. Future updates will deliver 6DoF cockpits for the A-10A, Su-25, Su-25T, Su-27. I expect that the Migs will be beautified as well, but this has not been officially announced.

By even suggesting this, the cruel laws of irony dictate that the probability of this occurring are nearly zero. :smartass:
-
Of course they are. Doesn't mean I can't judge their marketing department. :D
-
3z4jxkkrrKM Really? Their tagline is "Prepare 4 Battle"? That's what they're going with? No one should ever give money to those who would so readily stoop to txtspk in their advertising.

Yeeeah, with an Xbox controller I can't dock without using the external cam. Even then it might take me two or three attempts to get it right.

Nerd3 has played a few other flight sims with some limited success (read: he actually managed to get airborne... temporarily); if you liked his A-10C video, you'd probably also like these: wnMI7_iCG4E QR0DzGS8Q2c 9:19 kills me. :megalol:

Nice video; thanks for sharing! I've been contemplating putting together a video of my own for a while. Got a few tracks saved of my AI wingmen being hilariously stupid. Damn things never point in the direction you want them to. :)
-
I for one would love to see the availability of mid-fidelity aircraft expanded (perhaps by some third-party developers; it's my understanding that the SFM is made available for their use) since it's probably the only way I could convince my brothers to get in on the action with me. :( And, as Nate pointed out, if others don't like to share the airspace with FC-level birds, they don't have to.

"Why Nevada?" - Mission Potential for the Forthcoming Terrain
Splat posted a topic in Mission Editor
Over on the SimHQ forums, a thread entitled "Why Nevada?" recently cropped up in which the forthcoming Nevada terrain has proved unusually divisive. Some are calling it a "waste of resources" or evidence of ED supposedly catering to American nationalism, while others are defending it for southern Nevada's role in NATO training exercises and as a proxy for Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. In light of this discussion, I was curious about what the mission builders themselves think about the Soon™-to-be-released Nevada map. What are you most looking forward to about the new terrain? What kinds of missions/campaigns do you expect to build or see from others? Do you see the North American location as a potentially limiting factor? Just hoping to have a slightly less conspiratorial discussion on the matter here on the DCS forums, and who better to ask about mission building than the very people who enjoy building them? :) -
There are a variety of realism settings to choose from, from automatic transmission to fully customizable H-shifter setups and support for the appropriate controllers. Can't personally speak to the realism of the latter though; I've only ever driven your run-of-the-mill five speed automobiles. :)
-
No, the distances and the game's timescale are abbreviated. I've driven that very route in-game and it probably took me no more than an hour and a half. (Sigh.)
-
What Viper said. Note that hardpoints 10, 6, and 2 can only be populated by drop-tanks and AIM-7s can only be placed on 8, 7, 5, and 4. Likewise, AIM-9s can only be placed on the exterior stations 11, 9, 3, and 1.
-
The game options do actually allow for control with a HOTAS set-up! However, in lieu of a wheel, I'd probably opt for an Xbox controller if you've got one of those lying around. Does the trick for me!
-
Curious about this too, but it seems hoi polloi are not privy to such details. :glare: 64-bit OS, 64-bit DCS here.
-
Great news regarding 64-bit-only support. Hoping this will perhaps, maybe, ever-so-slightly expedite the release of EDGE. At any rate, the quicker the 32-bit bandage comes off, the better.

@0:21 - "TRUE Depth of Field". Yes, because the human eye works just like a 50mm camera lens. Don't get me wrong, depth of field is a great cinematic effect and I quite enjoy it in games like The Witcher 2, but if this is marketed as a simulation product, all depth of field simulates is a severe migraine.

Very glad to hear this. Kickstarted or not, I look forward to supporting this project (again) and, more importantly, eventually flying with the final product! Best wishes; we need more space sims! :joystick:
