  1. What if they opted for a synonymous title? Would that be enough to throw Ubisoft's legal hounds off the scent? Incendiary Precipices? Burning Crags? Blazing Bluffs? Ignited Escarpments? Searing Scars?
  2. Nice! So you've bypassed the EA servers altogether? I'd bet reddit would love to know about that if it doesn't already.
  3. Just saw this on RPS. I can't say I'm really surprised by all this, unfortunately. Of course the game already has terraforming and region editing built-in; how else would they sell it to you later? This whole SimCity debacle keeps getting better and better.
  4. Thanks so much for sharing that post. I was already pleased to hear about the Su-25 cockpit, but knowing that 6DoF for the Su-25T is somewhere in the tubes just made my day!
  5. This thread is amazing--so many great photos! Спасибо!
  6. We can only hope that legislators would ever be so reasonable.
  7. The other day there was something in the IRIS forum about their partnership with Metal2Mesh falling through. Perhaps this had disastrous ramifications for their DCS prospects?
  8. I have a feeling that it will take a few more rounds of Low-Score Limbo before these mega publishers wise up to the fact that always-on may not actually be The Way of The Future they want it to be.
  9. Since Disney now owns Lucasfilm, I was hoping for X-Wings.
  10. Nature may abhor a vacuum, but I abhor desktop clutter.
  11. Good to know. I must have spent ten minutes scrutinizing the liveries for any detectable differences only to finally realize that they were all exactly the same.
  12. Nothing fancy, just a few screen caps of the new Su-27 model. It is quite pretty, isn't it?
  13. Yeah, I came across this the other day, but I don't believe it for a second. Sounds like panicked equivocation to me, especially given the context of SimCity's botched launch. EA has recently introduced microtransactions to Dead Space 3 and there are already three city sets available for purchase within SimCity. EA makes big bucks through in-app purchases for their mobile titles, it makes sense that they would try to shoehorn that business model into their major titles. Anything for a quick buck, and EA's got a lot of suits to pay. Of course, I'm a huge pessimist when it comes to EA, so take this with a grain of salt. EDIT: A few more reads about the ongoing launch fiasco, courtesy of Ars Technica. EA disables non-critical gameplay features to relieve SimCity servers EA not altering return policy for furious SimCity buyers
  14. Why would they include those things in the base game when they could make them look cool and sell them to you at a later date? After all, EA has haughtily claimed microtransactions for all of their products henceforward. A grim, dark future indeed. EDIT: A couple new articles re: SimCity on Rock Paper Shotgun today. There's this one about SimCity's launch and the idea of 'games-as-service' as well as RPS' first impressions for the UK launch.
  15. I've been watching the SimCity launch with bemused interest, having decided from the first mention of always-on DRM that I would not be playing this title. While it doesn't seem that Amazon has stopped selling it (at least in North America), I was blown away when I checked to verify this: 1.2 stars out of 5 with 1,495 1-star reviews at the moment. Also, I don't put must stock in Metacritic ratings, but over there, SimCity currently has a User Score of 1.6 with 1,007 negative ratings to 122 positive. I could not agree with your latter statement more. For a while it seemed like EA could get away with anything, monolith of games publishing that it is. This time, however, it looks like it's really bitten them in the butts. People are pissed that the launch has been such a disaster thus far. Even more so than Diablo III, it seems!
  16. I vaguely remember playing some kind of flight game on my dad's Compaq Portable. It had green, wire-frame graphics and came on those big ol' 5.25" floppies. Can't remember what it was called; if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to know. After that, I think, was Star Wars: Rebel Assault. More of a rail-shooter than a simulator, but oh well. I recall this being crazy difficult for my kid self. Needless to say, I saw a lot of these scenes: Around the same time Jane's US Navy Fighters came out. So much fun, even though I don't know whether I ever successfully landed on an aircraft carrier. This was also bundled with US Marine Fighters, I think. Then came Digital Integration's Hind. A friend of mine had the companion sim Apache Longbow and we'd debate which was better/cooler. This game is the reason I squealed like a little schoolgirl when ED announced DCS Mi-24 Hind. EDIT: While recently perusing GOG.com, I found that both Hind and Apache Longbow are available for about 6 bucks each! There was much rejoicing. After that, my brothers and I got a Nintendo 64 and I kinda fell out of the PC gaming loop for quite a while so I never played Falcon 4.0 or even Microsoft's Flight Simulator series. Have been getting back into flight sims though and I'm loving it!
  17. Been lurking around these parts for a few months now, but first actual post. Haven't had too much time to play around with 1.2.3, but damn, the new Su-27 is pretty! Can't wait for the new 6 DoF cockpit.
