Just updated to 2.5.2.17559, and noticed the strobe lights on the Mirage get through the fuselage into the cockpit. It's quite annoying...not critical because they can be turned off, but it's annoying. Both strobe lights (the one on the top and the one on the bottom) illuminate the cockpit interior. Don't know if it's a Mirage problem only or it also affects other modules; tried deleting the fxo/metshaders folders in my Saved Games just in case; also tried enabling/disabling the "cockpit global illumination" setting...no joy. Anyone having this same issue?

Mmmm...I'll try that next time. Don't know what the semantics of "attack my enemy" are though; the reason I was trying "attack my target" was to be able to tell the wingman to go for one bandit so I can go for the other one (kind of).
-
Does the radio command "attack my target" have any effect? I'd swear it does on FC3 aircraft as I can hear my wingman's answer, but on the Mirage I get radio silence. So I always end up saying "engage bandits" just in case. Not a big deal anyway...just curious to know if it's of any use on the Mirage.

2.5.1 Night Lighting
derodo replied to Ralphk's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Seems like it improved in the overall brightness, as now it's not pitch black, but there are still some things that need tweaking I guess. Specially runway lights; you can barely see them unless you're quite close or zoomed in. Same with aircraft lights. Only tested Nevada so far. Maybe it's map-related somehow; I'd swear I read somewhere they're trying out new things on the new SOH map; and the night screenshots I saw are just incredible so far. Hope that same lighting system is applied everywhere soon. -
Tested it. Two times. Seems to be working. First try: Fang did their job; splashed the gecko and both tunguskas. Claw started their task and destroyed the tunnel entrance. Then I screwed up and got shot by the Mig 29s :P Second try: everything was ok and I finally made it back to base after dealing with the M29s. Everything looks ok to me. Good job Baltic!

I'm also stuck again in mission 12 (I'm replaying the campaign). I get to the point where I'm circling around with the tornados, waiting for fang to do their job. But it seem they didn't make it and we kept circling forever. After circling for so long and not hearing anything on the radio, I quit. I remember hearing fang saying "splash gecko" and "splash enemy tunguska", but just once. I think what happened is they need to take down two tunguskas, but the second one survived. I had a look at the mission debriefing, and indeed, the first tunguska is hit and destroyed, but the second one gets hit but not destroyed (I'm attaching the debriefing screenshot just in case it helps tracking the problem). Maybe that's what prevents the mission from progressing? PS: I also saved the track, but it's 22MB and I can't attach it. I keep it just in case Baltic wants to have a look.

I think that’s a known bug happening just after you jettison the fuel tank. Whenever you do that, you wont get radar lock until you press the 530 button on the PCA again.

Ok I see. Thanks for the in-depth explanation jojo; I know I should be using CAC modes in that situation, but I was kind of obsessed with the radar in the past not detecting targets, I just went berzerker. It was not the best situation for the initial problem I was reporting. My bad. I’ll keep an eye on it anyway, and try to come up with a track should it happen in BVR at some point. I’ll even try to do the math beforehand just to be sure the targets are within the radar scan cone, since evidence suggests it’s just me missbehaving. Thanks again for giving it a look.

I agree; as much as I like them, I reckon scratches are a bit overdone. Wouldn't mind if they were took down a notch.
-
They're back on 2.5.1, or so it seems. At least I can see them now in the mirage and SU-27. Sweet :) I missed them. Hope they are here to stay

Hi again, I think I've experienced this weird behavior again; I mean...I think it has always been there, but I have a track file this time (or so I think). It's a very simple one; just wait till the second minute (16:22 world mission time) and get to the cockpit view. Radar on, HFR, 20nm range, azimut neutral (in the midle); there's a SU-27 coming hot on me, straight on, co-altiture. Close. Nothing shows up. I can see it in front of me as a black dot; I can even start making its sillouette as it approaches, but the radar showed nothing for entire time until the SU27 just zoomed past me. Maybe it's just me and I'm doing something wrong, or maybe I missed something somewhere...shouldn't that SU27 have showed up at some point on the radar? m2k_radar_2.trk

+1 It's a tiny little detail, but appreciated. I missed it.

jojo: that's what I do; I don' really switch the radar off; it set it to SIL (I didn't explain it propperly). Anyway, the "ARRET RADAR" message shows up and there's no way to remove it (unless you switch to APP mode). But switching to BVR and back as Chris suggested did the trick! Once you go into BVR, you can set the radar to SIL and get no "ARRET RADAR" message on the HUD. Don't know if that's how it should be, but it works for me.
-
This happened to me too; I think it has to do with anti-aliasing. Anything abobe 4x will make the mirror fail. At least that's what worked in my case. Just dialed back AA to 4x and it rendered just fine.
-
After I successfully fire all rockets/guns, if I switch off radar and master arm, the message "ARRET RADAR" keeps showing on the hud. I know the indication is quite OK, as it's warning me the radar is off; but I want it off since I'm about to return to base and don't need it anymore. I tried several options, like switching on/off master arm, gun...tried also to select the rocket pylons to deactivate them, but they are no longer lit on the PCA; also tried to select the APP mode and in that case, the message disspears, but it goes on again if I disable the APP mode. Is that the intended behavior? The only time the message dissapeared is after I rearmed at the base. Don't know exactly when; once the aircraft rearmed, the message was gone.
-
OMG! How stupid can I be?!? I’ll try that tonight (but obviously, if that option is there in the rearm/refuel window, it will work)
-
What the title says. I was just practicing some A/G on my own; started with the standard chaff/flare loadout (no eclair); popped all the flares during my low passes, came back to my home plate and rearmed; but after the rearm was complete, I still got no flares (the indicator showed 0 and no flares were dispensed when I tried to release them; so it's not just the indicator being messed up). Retried the mission just to make sure the behavior is consistent; and it seems to be the case. Is there any other way to refill chaff/flares? I read some posts about the kneeboard having additional options for changing the number of chaffs/flares, but I couldn't find them.

Hey there, just flying around on the 2.5. I know this has been going on for quite a while, but here's another screenshot; this time it's just foggy. Maybe it's not directly related, but I think it still comes down to propper runway (overall) lighting. Summer; 6AM: the street lights on the nearby roads can be seen, but not the runway lights at Kobuleti. Hope this can get fixed at some point.

The latest hornet videos from Wags have the scratches. Maybe it's just for the F18? Or maybe they're planning to get them back? I've got a few modules and I'd swear I can't see any scratches on any of them; I miss them TBH. Can live without them, though.

Hi guys, thanks for the answers. I’ve had my first formation training flight today with the 59th Ravens, and I enjoyed it *a lot* We did nothing but flying, and it it was a blast for me; being in the air with other people, learning to keep up the formation, enjoying the view, having fun...I still suck big time buy hey, this is just the beginning. I’m taking it easy and casual for now, but I have to admit it was way better than I thought it would be, and it was just formation training!...can’t imagine how it is gonna be like if I ever get into a real combat mission! See you in the skies!

Hi there, I've been playing DCS for quite a long time, always SP. And I'd like to make "the jump" to MP. I've been watching videos of people playing and it looks freaking amazing, but I'm overwhelmed; it looks terribly complicated; I'm not a native english speaker and radio comms scare the hell out of me; even when I can perfectly have an english conversation, I still miss quite a lot of things of what people say over the radio; and then there's the tactics, technique, formation flying... So...is there any public server where noobs can start to get the feeling for it? You know, like it doesn't matter to screw up at the beginning and such :P I'd like to get "the full experience" at some point, with SimpleRadio and all that, but that seems to take some time to get right. Any hints would be appreciated.

Hi there, I noticed the radar antenna elevation on the HUD no longer displays a number as it did before (it's been a while since I flew the SU 27). I'd swear that number represented how much above/below the radar was pointing relative to the aircraft altitude and the estimated target distance; so if you know your targets are around 70km away at 11000m, and you're at 8000m, you canset the estimated target distance to 70 and move the antenna up until the number indicator showed 3. Now I can only see the caret moving up/down, but I don't have any clue as how much high/low I'm scanning at. If if move it all the way down I can see a -15 indication beside the caret, but as soon as I move it up, the -15 dissapears (and there's also a "50" displayed all the way up at the end of the vertical HUD line that shows up when the -15 is displayed). I checked the manual and I think I'm doing it right...did this change lately?

Hi all, Moved to the stable release version this week, and noticed that contrails go on & off depending somehow on the angle you look at them at. So for example, I'm flying straight and I can clearly see my AWACS contrailing in the distance when looking slightly to the left; but if turn my head to look straight, the contrail dissapers even when it's still in my view cone; that is, the place where the contrail should be is on screen, but it's not rendered. Slightly turning my head left/right, or even tilting up/down makes the contrail "blink" and appear dissapear depending on my head's orientation (I'm using trackIR). I don't remember this happenig in the OB, but I can't tell for sure. Is it just me or is this a known bug?

As much as I’d like to have a bit more flexibility in the track viewer, the most reliable and comprehensible way to do a post-mortem of your mission is to use TAC view IMO. Aside from that, it would be awesome if we could have some handy controls in the track player (timeline, camera selection/customization via UI elements and not just key bindings, etc)

It’s been always like that for me. With and without SSD. Of course it’s better with SSD, but it seems like it takes ages; maybe it’s not that bad and I’m just being too demanding...like I want everything to load just now! :)
