Pure genious... Thanks =}

Did something funny today, thought I'd share: G-force got you stuck in your seat? We got the solution! Coming in nice and low over the runway, pull up into a Cobra and pull the 2 yellow handles convieniently loacted in the cockpit. Watch the plane flare smoothly... ...Tad over the wires, but no matter. Always wanted to be James Bond, and now you can! For best results remove cigerrate and/or vodka bottle. Your results in negative G may vary. No more hassle getting your butt unstuck! 'O shit... Don't slip... He slipped. That's gonna hurt in the morning. For optimal results use of a jetpack is recommended.

Any place where you can learn how to take out ships using the -33? It's been my favorite plane in Lomac for a while, and landing on carriers [With the flaps up- Flaps are for sissies] and hitting ships with 2 well-aimed point-blank S-25's is fun. The main thing is, I don't know how to use the cruise thing you can put on the middle front pylon. This little diamond comes up on one of the ships, and it doesn't lock or anything, so I do LA override, and it does a bueatiful 180 degree turn and ends up in the water exactly where the ship isn't. Rather fun to watch, and makes my plane a whole lot lighter, but not too usefull otherwise. There aren't any tutorials about this weapon, so, what do I do?

Big burners... Big big burners... How much thrust those things give? I believe in modern fighters a good percentage of the lift is produced my the fuselage, so it couldn't be the same as a cessna. Also mich faster and more dart-like, IMO it would feel like it would be easier to land without a wing. Still not easy though.

Nice... Thanks. Now Two isn't lonley anymore. @Chris: It's funny how you can set down really soft on the dirt and still turn into a fireball... First flight in an A-10, shrika got one of my engines. Thought, "What the heck, no need to eject, Ill ust set it down on this chap's farm" Big bang. =p

Just wondering, how do you edit wingman loadout, skill, ect., and even if you have a wingman? I can't find where this info is anywhere.

Why the dreaded LA never comes on...
Archer_02 replied to Archer_02's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
OMG there's a launch override? Wow... Can't believe I never saw that before. What section is it in? Hah! IN YOUR FACE sleeping people with miks... -
I was wondering what's up with the LA thing. Sometimes I get it right after lock-on, others I use a missile with a range of 50+ km and don't get LA till around 10. At first I thought "LA" accualy meant someone in the control room was telling you when to launch, but after a while I realized it was mroe than snoozing people with mics. Still couldn't figure it out, and forgot about it until I read this, taken from Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air-to-air_missile Scroll untill you hit "missile range". Very intresting read for me. :joystick:

A video of REAL LIFE PLANES!!!!!!!
Archer_02 replied to 23rd_SATAN's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Also, the tips stall AFTER the center of the wing, meaning you still have control even in a stall. -
Lol I had the same problem just a few days back You need to set something to "release weapon". There are 2 different controls on american jets, one for missile/weapons and another for gunz.

Americans not letting me shoot missiles
Archer_02 replied to Archer_02's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks for impossibly fast reply. Can you set it up to be anything other than enter (what is control name in options?) Meh, useless American silicon fighters, now they want you to press *another* button before you get to be evil. And I live in the USA... Ahhh irony =p Thanks again, Archer -
Lol, I love that high one. I can't stop laughing. "New standard equipment for all fighter pilots: Choice of gluestick or sharpie introduced into oxygen mask for "getting high"" :p

Warning: n00b question follows. I'm fine with the good old Russian hunks, but when I try to fly an American airplane (well the F-15 at least) I can't shoot missiles. I get a lock-on fine but when I do my evil laugh and pull the trigger the *cannon* fires. Not good in BVR. Uh-uh. Regardless of weather or not cannon mode is on, the puny peashooter still goes off... The training missions aren't helping, the instructor gets a lock and says "press spacebar to fire", but when I hit my fire button on joystick that stupid cannon shoots instead... I bet the answer's gonna be like, 3 words long. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Archer

1.- Well, I didn't expect any would hit, but I figured if you have a missile coming towards you, you would be more likley to turn and break lock and at least delay the firing a bit. I'm pretty sure I could have used fewer, though. I'll keep that in mind. 2.- I didn't remember this, since I was well into BVR I thought by going up I would give my missles more range. I didn't consider tracking might be screwed. 3.- That makes sense. Once I hotkey my ECM (lol) I'll be careful with that. What to do if theres more than 1 aircraft in the air? I'm guessing they would communicate with each other and both yould know where you were, but if you're into a dogfight with one and another is looking for you, what to do? 4.- Alright. If you drop when missle(s) are too far away, will it accualy HELP the missile track you? 5.- Once I stop looking like a rabid pit bull in the cockpit, I might =p And accualy I know how to land (I just didn't cause I was a bit eager to see the stats and my approach was pretty "landable") because I have previous experience in flight sims/real life aircraft, it's just that I'm new to the "combat" part. This radar thing cofuses me. It would be funny to hear the enimie's view of things: "Ziz madman, ze dropz zis chaffz and flarez like there is beink no tommoro. Zen he launchez all zese missiles and I eject in fear" And I'd love to go online but I can't find the join game button, I only know how to set up servers. =p

If you ask me, the mirrors don't match with the rest of the panel: It looks like you're looking at them head-on, but as you can see from the HUD the rest of the panel is angled away from you. And the clouds look seriously photoshopped/painted
-
That's the baddie. Owned. Heading towards a runway, that's what I was left with. Those are the ending stats, I didn't catch the landing (Pretty confident I could, and with everything on high my system screws up a bit near the ground.)

Yay! Today I got my first "real" air-to-air kill! I'd already shot down some B-1B's and some (unarmed) F-5's, but today I accualy shot down an armed Su-27 with a Su-33. It started well into BVR then turned into a kind of dogfight inbetween shaking missiles. As soon as I started mission an enemy fighter got a lock-on and my warning-thing in the cockpit went mad with the lock-on tone. I hadn't even switched to BVR but I guessed that I wasn't gonna die yet 'cause he couldn't shoot yet (Still to far away). I switched to BVR and turned radar up to 256 (I think) KM. He showed up but I couldn't lock hi mthis far so I began to wait till he showed up in my 1xx radar mode. I climbed up on burner (He was quite a bit higher than me) and as soon as he got on my radar I got a lock on. Still climbing I waited for LA. As soon as it came I fired 1 of my 6 long range (110km) missiles. I wasn't expecting any of them to accualy hit, but it would make him turn and forget about attacking me. A few seconds after I launched again and kept doing this. (From my previous experience firing 2 missiles at once is useless because it only takes one to kill and you're pretty much just wasting one.) Apparently the missiles did what they were supposed to do but none hit, and unluckily for me we were closing fast and it was his turn to fire! Again from my previous experience I slowly turned 90 degrees and gently (I was going pretty fast) dived to give the missile a hard time. Also dropped some countermeasures at various distances (I don't know the right distance for dropping them) It worked: The missile tracked fine in the beginning but at about 5km it was clear that it wasn't doing it's best, and at 3 it went wide. Still came pretty close and spooked me, though. I turned towards him and (excuse any inaccuracies in relation to the result pic, I can't remember perfectly) launched a -ET at him, still in BVR (my favorite missile, always loved it and probably always will, shame I can only carry 2 though). While the missile was flying he launched again, and this time I didn't have as much height/speed as before. Once again I turned 90 degrees (sideways) from him and dived, this time a lot more steeply than before. I traded my height for speed and hoped to outrun it by making it cover a lot of distance. This part really spooked me: It was tracking fine and this time I was SURE I was going to go down. I launched CM's like a nut, and that saved me, along with the speed I was going. It tracked right towards me and if I was gong any slower would have hit, I think it got distracted my a chaff aswell. That thing came so close, I wish I had a screenie but you'll just have to believe me. =p I turned up towards him, switched to boresight, and launched my second and last -ET at him, this one did the trick. At this point I got distracted my something (can't remember what) and couldn't see the whole flight: But I looked back and saw it impact and a smoketrail from the Su-27 and I knew it hit- yay! Main reason I posted this was, if you have any suggestions to what I could've done better. I didn't use jammer because I didn't understand it too well and was afraid he would home on that or it would be used against me. Also didn't know the distance when to use chaff/flare. Also, the enemy gt a lock-on really fast, right after game started, while I had to wait till he came into the 100-km range. Are the radars different, or does the warning display mean something else? Some screenies:

I'm not arguing with anything anyone is saying, but technically if the ailerons/flaperons are closer, the response should be more sluggish but faster since they are closer to the plane's axis. Less power, more speed. Not sure if it works this way in aircraft though. Correct me if I'm wrong. The Su-27 is a much larger/heavier plane than Mig/Mirage 2k from what I understand, it's not a fair game to compare a 747 and an Edge. About the game, I haven't seen anything different here then in FS2004, my remote-controlled Edge 540 (60" wing span, not one of those foam toys) and some gliders I've flown/flown in. Seems to me like the roll rate is pretty good (accurate) judging by what it is, though I don't have near the experience your friend does, if he's a pilot in real life I would guess he would be right. Also remember that you're flying a few tons of steel/titanium/composite/fuel/sweat and not a paper airplane. At high speed it behaves just like one if you ask me, but at minimum control, don't try a snap roll. Or you will end up like I did in my sig.

Nugget's first impressions and questions

Thanks everyone for all your help. That site helped alot, thanks. Now that I've got *most* of it sorted out, I can start posting and blowing up stuff... PS: Just had a funny experience, check my siggy. Just got back from tank-killing, did a nice landing but it was a little "hot" (too fast, had to hold a bit of down ele) so I made it a touch-and-go and came back, this time at minimum control. Was looking perfect, few more inches and it would have been. I *should* have slammed down a ton of down ele and made it a one-pont nose landing...lol -

Archer_02 replied to Archer_02's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks for the help and patence to those who are replying. I found out how to use the BVR thing and radar (whoppe!)- now I can get a lock-on perfectly fine, but the new problem is that stupid LA thing. I get a lock on but even if I come within 10k (only sometimes) I can't fire still. What conditions have to be met before LA turns on? Anyways I think when you hit "fly now" with the Su-27, the S-3 Viking is jamming, since you can't see it on radar except for an occasional blip. This game gets more fun and challenging with each new feature you learn. I'm gonna turn of labels to make it more intresting. Only problem is that same evil vioce. I mean, I think you'd notice if both your engines were on fire. Also realized that if you clip a hangar while taxiing, you get hydrolics failure. So stay away from the plazma-coated force-fielded hangars. -
Nugget's first impressions and questions
Archer_02 replied to Archer_02's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks for the help. I understand how to use most of it, but I can't lock on to mostly anything around, say, 30km away. I looked in the booklet thing, and some missles have a range much greater. However, Bore and Vertical can't lock on to something this far, and VS has way too small of a lock zone. Incase you don't understand, if an F-16 closes in at 35km, you really can't do anything but switch to BVR mode and keep trying your luck mashing lock-on and hope the aimer thingummy goes over target... I'm sure I'm doind something wrong what is it? Can anyone tell me which mode I'm missing, what I'm not doing, ect? Also, why use Bore when Vertical has a much bigger target area? There's something I'm not getting, right? Thanks, Archer -

Nice...Quick reply Accualy I think I *was* in bore mode... Oops... However, they aren't "beyond" visual range, I can see them. Is there a "Middle range" that you use for general combat? How do you "lock on to radar"? I'm pointing the creen circle in the HUD over the label (which I want to remove after I learn to use radar) and repeatedly mashing "lock on" button until I get the smaller green circle, then start mashing "fire" instead. No wonder that F-16 shot me down, 15km IS a bit close =p Thanks for the help. I've got 1.02 BTW. Edit: Still don't get it, I press "2" and I'm in BVR mode, but there's just a blank HUD. What do I click after BVR mode to get a lock-on? Another (hopefully last) Edit Fudge... In the process of doing training mission for the Su-27, and realized that everything is right there... *slaps forehead* Sorry about that, I'm going to watch the training vid and then come back if there's anything I dont understand. -
Greetings all, just got this sim and I'm mostly very happy with it. I was sick and tired of Ace-combat style physics (You get literally, hundreds of missiles, shoot down planes by the tens, and that sort of rubbish) and Flight Simulator (which I can mod pretty well with G-max) wasn't a combat sim. Anyways, the FD's are very nice, except for the fact that when you land it feels like an arcade game (I read that it was scrpit or something) and of course that evil voice: Left engine fire, Right Engine fire, ACS failure, Hydrolics failure, ECM Failure (What the h3ll is an acs???) God, I'd eject anyday just to get rid of that voice!!! *shivers* One of my questions is, I set up a fast battle between me and an F-14 at 49KM and long-range A2A loadout, but no matter how much I press lock-on key, I don't get that small green circle over the target which allows me to shoot. I did it once or twice (After the F-14 launches a sparrow or something which killed me later) but I can't repeat this. I set up the "lock on target" or something to a joystick button, I remember in the Mig training mission it was the "tab" key. So, what are the steps to launching a long-range missile in the Su-33 or Su-27? Those are what I was flying. I rememberin a training mission the instructor (who apparently was sitting on the engine, or maybe in one of those people-tanks the Russians tried on the Froggy???) "uncaged" a missile with the "6" key (I think). WHat is the difference between locking and uncaging? I'm not a noob when it comes to FLYING aircraft (if it's got wing(s) I can fly it, maybe an airtow though) but these modern weapons systems and avionics stump me. I think I may have spent a teensy bit too long shooting down Landcasters =P Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Archer BTW, the forum rules are very... Clear and to the point... They're like, 3 words in English. =P
