  1. Always used DP for the monitor and use the HDMI for rift. If I remember right the 980Ti has 3 DP and 1 HDMI so it could be an issue. But you can get passive converters. Never used them so can't comment as to their effectiveness
  2. KLR Rico - I have the same frame rate issues as yourself. I've always noticed that when I was testing frames rates in the past I would normally default to Batumi and they always took a huge hit when I looked to the north. I don't know what it is up the coast but it absolutely munches the frame rates. Fly south for 90fps locked, fly north and you're frequently dipping into high 30's and early 40's which bring around the outside world stutter even though your head tracking is smooth. Like yourself... I can change the graphics settings until the cows come home and it has little effect on the frame rate. As for 'through the lens' I find when I record on my iPhone everything is deceptively better... Not by a lot but I'm not sure what happens within the phone to cause the effect. DCS is going to be much harder work from now on though... If you're waiting on your CV1 arriving I'd advise you take up some neck muscle training =p
  3. I am in the middle of a chat with Oculus support about it at the moment. It is evident in every game. HMD on my face is not the issue. I have had 3 days of usage and it isn't -that- hard to try every possible angle and position on the face. Now my neck hurts like hell after a Mig-15 vs Sabre battle. I'm going to bed =] Thanks again ED team! This will be the future of sims!
  4. As the originator of the Apollo blur I can confirm it exists in DCS. However I am impressed at what they have done... And impressed as to how much of the A10 pit I know without needing the text(!) It is legible if you lean and do the top of the headset trick. HUD is mostly visible without any tomfoolery and the overall experience is great. I'm running a 4670k OC at 4.4 and a 980Ti and I am struggling with a little juddering in the sim at Batumi free flight. I'll spend time tweaking and report back - I did drop resolution very low and all the settings to Low or Off though so I am not sure how much more I can do. As with the DK2 experience... Blown away with the feeling of 'being there' Right. I'm gonna hop in the F15 and report later! Good job ED
  5. I also think the focus is balanced overall - but, to reiterate, for simming it will be a bit of a pain. The Apollo switchgear is a bit more in your face than your average jet and even that is tough to make out without the tilted head trick. I really think the boys will struggle to get the HUD to any decent clarity but I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong! =] Also - don't cancel it. It's worth supporting the cause for version 2... And there is plenty of other stuff to experience on top of the sims! I reckon it will be usable for casual flying still but just too soft to be effective in combat =\ once again happy to be proven wrong.
  6. That exact same thing. Everyone else comments how comfy it is... But I don't think so either. Not with the accuracy required. Good news is the tracking is, once again, pretty sweet. Just need resolution and clarity to catch up for Cv2
  7. I had a couple of beers and couldn't really understand the diagram :megalol: It was my understanding during the development that they would be warping the peripheries more than the middle to keep details central and and the slight blurring at the edges... That's what I put the colour fringing down to with the DK2. After more testing this evening I can pretty much confirm it isn't possible to gain the same clarity. There is a fairly large sweet spot where clarity is pretty much consistent and then a much smaller sweeter spot where it is at its best. Even at this it is not possible to get the crispness you can see at the edge. The rift is still great for other games so don't be too disappointed if you're waiting.. And for flying in DCS it will be very immersive. But for any aircraft where you're interacting with the cockpit, MFDs and need to see details on the HUD it may prove to be a little disappointing as I can't see it being this generation which nails it.
  8. Yes the PPI is less and even then it appears clearest. That's the main reason for my disappointment. The screen resolution is good enough - it's just the lens isn't up to scratch...
  9. I have aligned perfectly on the IPD axis... And yet vertically it doesn't matter where it sits.. High on cheek or low on cheek.. It's just illegible. It happens on any game where there is small fonts. Exact same effect in Elite. I can't think of any other way to wear it. Sit it high, sit it low, tilt it a bit this way, tilt it a bit that way. It's not hard to figure out all the options as to how you wear it. As I have previously said I have it sitting in the small area for optimum clarity (as much as you can get). It is very noticeable and obvious if you're outwith this window. I've had my friend over today who has confirmed what I'm saying through my rift, and another member on this forum verifying it. The smudging to reduce SDE seems to be the most logical right now. I can guarantee it is nothing to do with fitment and it's pretty saddening. I'd love A little more SDE to be able to read things clearer. I can only imagine the MFD and HUD will be a nightmare with the 'intentional blur'
  10. One member of another forum has suggested this is an intentional effect to reduce SDE - they blur it... I'd happily take more SDE instead of a blurry centre view. The poor A10 his will look like it has been washed in butter.. I have raised a support ticket with oculus just incase I have a dodgy unit..
  11. As there are 2 of us here with the same issue i don't think it's isolated. We need more CV1 folk to test it. Look directly at the switches in the Apollo module (which are much like cockpit switches in the jets we fly) and you'll struggle to make out the text for the switch (APU GEN, MASTER ATM etc). Keep looking at the switch with your eyeball but tilt head forward and the font becomes much much clearer and legible as it is viewed through the extremities of the lens... Like a teacher peering over the top of her glasses at you. It really is a deal breaker right now for me as I can't imagine how developers can work to that limitation very well.
  12. It is pretty annoying once you see it and I'm glad it isn't just me. I was thinking that the A10 would have been mostly OK provided you look where you need the detail. Now, it seems, you have to look AWAY to see things in detail =\ and zooming in doesn't necessarily fix it either. It always just seems to be clear at the extremities and I'm surprised there isn't a Reddit thread on it yet. I might sign up and get down voted for hating =')
  13. Well I got my rift today. Once again gutted I can't fly about in DCS right away Regardless.. I've played the Apollo experience and been on the moon... And driven race cars round numerous tracks now. The rift itself is pretty good - although a little disappointing in some areas. I never hyped myself up for better resolution and knew it would still be a struggle for DCS. However - even with that I am a little disappointed with the clarity. I find it is impossible to adjust the headset to get clarity on the text on panel in the Apollo 11 module (very similar to panel in DCS) when looking at them. However - if I tilt my head forward and peer out the top of the lens I can read the text very clearly. I thought it was meant to be the reverse - clear in the middle and slightly blurred elsewhere. I have aligned the Rift for the greatest clarity (just hand holding not using head strap) on the green crosshairs on the setup and went straight back into the game and it's the same results. Everything in the middle of the lens, on both eyes, is notably fuzzier than the extremities. So... It's good... But it is Gen 1 and I already can't wait for Gen 2...
  14. I'm getting my CV1 on Wednesday and absolutely gutted I won't be flying about in the Huey in it. It was one of the main reasons I bought after the Dk2 experience. Oh well... Let's home the devs get DCS up to speed with the new runtime whilst I brush up my lap times at Nurburgring
  15. I've got myself a xx26xx order ID and order completed at T +0:06. I got a 1-3 week shipping email which seems to indicate first batch (according to what I've gleaned from Reddit) but, as a UK dude, I am not sure if I am included in Palmer's tweet that pre-orders will (most likely) start shipping on Wednesday. I took a few days off work assuming dispatch today.. but hey ho!
  16. Oh dear oh dear... Wags is pretty active when it comes to VR in DCS so hopefully he can put out an announcement as to when it's expected to get patched in. I'm super hyped for DCS VR after my short DK2 experience!
  17. I was hoping you'd be able to take the mission plan that's been loaded in and then copy it as FP2.. that way you can just switch back to default when you muck about too much and can't get back to original state. As for skipping the bad steerpoint.. that's what I've been doing. I've been playing the DLC campaign and you're constantly bombarded with new target grid references to dial in. I find myself just using a new WP and inserting it after an appropriate mission WP for my IP. But I'd like to be able to delete it again so I can clean up the TAD. I'll have a good look through the manual tomorrow and teach myself unless someone is nice enough to give me a hint before then :) RE: Oculus CV1... I used to own the DK2 and the text was illegible on the HUD and most of the switches without moving your face in. The CV1 has a slightly higher resolution and reduced screen door + better lenses... So who knows? Based on resolution alone though I'm not confident it will be good enough yet. I did spot Wags posting on a VR forum though with a very promising little line regarding VR in DCS! So it WILL come! One day! Maybe now or maybe when they develop higher resolution tiny screens and NVidia's Pascal can push all those extra pixels. Regardless - I'll enjoy the CV1 :)
  18. Hey folks - getting a bit more involved with the CDU just in time for it to be (most likely) unreadable in the Rift CV1... But regardless I am trying to pass the time =] So as the title says - is it possible to clone the mission FP on the ground so I can tinker with one and quickly swap back if I screw it up. Can't find it in the manual so I guess not? Whilst I'm here - how do you delete a point from a flight plan? I forgot to look that up. I constantly mess up when inserting a new point and as such the reason I ask both of the above
  19. So I have a 980Ti and a Rift on the March list :) Super happy... Still a little peeved about the whole Pascal thing though. It will make the sale of the 980Ti a little harder for sure. Go early and cash in (but not know how Pascal will perform in the real world) or take a hit on the price but give Pascal time... Hmmm Hmmm Hmmm Anyway - since we're discussing the engine... wasn't Edge supposed to offload CPU to GPU where possible? And we're still seeing 40% GPU with 80% CPU. This seems like a gateway to performance improvements. I'm guessing it's pretty difficult to offload to GPU if this hasn't been implemented already? #needmoreframesforRift
  20. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=oculus+resolution
  21. Have you tried the nVidia 3D goggles? I had the latest gen for a whole day before I threw them straight back in the box and returned them. Absolutely dire. DK2 didn't quite cut the mustard for me either for a few reasons... But I have bought CV1 regardless even though I will still find issues. BUT! I shall digress a bit here... The immersion of the Oculus is beyond words. For the first time since I started simming I actually felt like I was in a real cockpit. Everything was there - properly scaled - just looking up at me. For the first time the huge artificial horizon of the A10 looked like a 3D sphere trapped behind a bit of glass. The windows in the door of the Huey and the window frames felt like they were resting on my shoulder. The head tracking was absolute perfection - TrackIR is barely usable knowing what is on its way. I made a demo track of a Huey flight which started Batumi ramp with the engines running. After a brief hover taxi the rift would take people on a 120kt 5ft flight down the runway before a steep pitch up and wing over to the right into Batumi town. I darted in and out of the buildings and took an opportunity to hover at the end of a tower crane boom (like those cheap 3D effects the cinemas are all using). Just watching people (who couldn't use the Huey themselves as it takes a little skill) go on the same ride I had been on was incredible. Genuine joy and amazement when they came back out. So yeah. I know the CV1 won't quench my flight sim needs 100% but for having people over and giving them an experience the price is well worth it. Hell - it's just about as satisfying as taking people flying in the real world!
  22. Same here. Noticed at POS it was Oculus Ireland on the Paypal seller ID :)
  23. Well I'm UK and I ordered without hesitation... Maybe because I had a DK2 for a while and was blown away by the immersion (then I sold it for a nice little profit after advertising for what I paid - 2 buyers got carried away and bid against each other) Simming is expensive. We all know that... I put a 980Ti in when they released in preparation for Oculus and there was no way I wasn't missing out. I got in for the March delivery so I'll be booking a couple of days off work end of March into early April :P Flight sims, Race sims, Experiences when people come over for a beer... I can't bloody wait!
  24. Another owner of the same one over here... What I remember was the pricing difference between B&W with colour on the cover vs. full colour throughout. If I remember right it was about 1000% more expensive
  25. I've also noticed that the damage modelling isn't synchronised between me and my friend. For example - when he dropped his gear and got 2 greens and asked me to have a look I said all down... But on his computer one was stuck fully up. This is the most notable but there have been many other occasions where we've noticed this type of issue.
