  1. Chavez isn't going after anyone's patience. If they get irritated with our decisions, c'est la vie. We aren't hurting anyone. We had been looking at options for new aircraft for a long time; back in 2001 2 Mig-29s were brought in for evaluation, but we didn't opt for them. I'm sure our airforce is qualified to choose what aircraft to purchase. I believe they requested aditional AG options for the Flankers we bought. We will also keep our F-16s and work on them however possible. I'll post the more of our Flanker's specs as soon as the information is released.
  2. The parts and upgrades to our F-16s were denied a long time ago. That little devil quote was said much later, and I won't comment on it. From now on it's clear our 2 goverments will probably only deal with oil sales, and that's about it. We didn't exactly shoot ourselves in the foot. The only thing we needed were replacement parts and upgrades to 20 F-16s. The replacement parts were found, I do not know exactly where. They probably won't be retired soon, and I can't tell exactly what's going to be done to them. I'll look it up in a bit. I'm sure the Su-30s are not meant to replace the F-16s.
  3. *Sigh* There will be no war between Venezuela and ANY other country. The closest we've ever been to a war in the last few years was a civil war. Like I said before, we are just getting new equipment for our air forces. 24 Su-30s and there is talk about getting more. Also some Mi-35 hinds that will most likely to to patrol our borders and prevent drug trafficing, which is the most likely confrontation to ever happen. We are not the only ones adding to our airforces. Brasil was looking into Su-30s as well but I believe they opted for Mirage 2000s, Chile got some new F-16s, etc. They're not going to war with anyone either... And our AK-103/104 are going to replace our 40 year old FALs. I'm not excited that we got Su-30s to fight anyone, I'm excited we got them because they are pretty cool planes, and the paint scheme is awsome... No cockpit shots yet, and the article that I'm waiting for to be published that describes our Su-30s isn't out yet. All I have is this: http://fav-club.com/descargas.htm Click on the Su-30MK2, it's only a walk around. That day there was an airshow and I'm trying to find any video of them performing. You can also look at the Hind video.
  4. Self sufficient, probably not, better off dealing with Russia, probably yes. It's just the way things are between the 2 governments. Originally, we had to beg and plea to get the F-16s in the first place, and thing only went downhill from there. And that was with a past government that was very close to the US. So far Russia has proven to be a very different story. Things with the sales and training are going great.
  5. One thing to add is this: Venezuela is very focused on the transfer of technology. It is a problem when you need to get parts from any country be it the US or Russia, but I'm sure our goverment is taking steps to transfer any technology it can the products it is buying. One example is that we have engineers in spain learning about the naval equipment being bought from spain, not just learning how to use it. Like when we bought AK-103/104 rifles, first we bought 100,000 from Russian, but we will set up a manufacturing plant for these rifles and their munition. Like a said, many steps are being taken to try to be less dependant of foreign production. Also, I doubt our government is trying to piss off anyone, nor are we preparing for war as some may say. We just had very outdated equipment all around, and it was time for an upgrade. We couldn't get it from the US so we got it from Russia. We have great relations with most everyone (Including Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, etc) and armed conflict is extremely unlikely to ever happen. 24 airframes is enough to cover our small country. The most probably use any of these Flankers will get is participation in the yearly Cruzex exercises.
  6. And the US did embargo parts. Lack of replacement parts was the reason so many of our F-16 were inoperative. Spain was told not to sell us their CASA transport planes because they had US-made components. Optional systems were found and the sale mantained. Politics are a tough game... Now we need a skin of these Flankers for Flaming Cliffs... anyone? :D
  7. I'm not quite sure what armament we will be getting. A lot news about south-american forces can be read here: http://fav-club.com/favclubnews.htm I agree, our camo is styling....
  8. Hmmm. I don't see why we wouldn't get replacement parts from Russia. This being a russian board, most should know how well relations between our two goverments are. Even after the US threatened economic sanctions against the Russian company reponsible for the sale of the Su-30s, it still proceeded. The US has stopped giving us parts, and tried to enforce some kind of weapon embargo. For a while there our F-16s were grounded. However work arounds were found and they are operational again. And I'm not trying to bash any goverment or anything, people just push for their own interest, and like we all know, most people's interests creates conflict with each other. I'm just happy we have these planes to call our own now.
  9. Actually our armed forces have been getting a major overhaul. It is not only about the adquisition of new equipment, but there's been a change in how things are maintained, and we have brough back into working order many things that had been abandoned/neglected.
  10. Here's a pic from one of our new toys: http://tovar741.sc38.info/Coppermine/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=9&pos=4 We're getting 24 of these, perhaps more. Heck of a step up from our F-16A.
  11. Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread, but I also have a question about BS, and thought it'd be better to post here rather than a whole new thread. How much more pc demanding will BS be over FC? I'm worried about the "FSX effect", as in FSX was built with more eyecandy, but to get decent FPS the settings must be turned down so low, that FS9 with full settings looks better, and get 3X the FPS. My machine is an AMD 3400+ 2GB RAM, ATI X1800XT 512mb and it does a good job of running FC with medium-high settings and good FPS. Hopefully it will accept BS without having to turn down settings.... any predictions?
  12. I've read all seven pages and I can't believe there is only one mention of the Red Baron by Sierra. I had "the Red Baron" 3D, and I played it like crazy, so much fun. Some years ago an individual made a payware super-patch called "full canvas jacket" that upgraded many of the game's elements.
  13. Quick question about missile use. Which one of these methods do you think is best?: 1) Launching the missile at the enemy as soon as he you get authorization, which means he'll probably evade it, but while manuevering he will loose energy, you will close in, and fire a second missile that will probably take him down. 2) Wait until he's closer to fire the first missile, this increasing the chance of it hitting (seen Ironhand doing it, but that's Ironhand), but he almost surely will fire at you too, which will make you go into evasion as well, then hope you don't break lock so you can turn in and fire again. Which would you say is more proper? I think 1 is safer, but if I use too many missiles for 1 enemy, then if another shows up I'm toast. Thanks for helping the newb.
  14. You mind sharing that 2 on 2 tactic? I could probably benefit from it :D
  15. I wish I had a system like that! I would need to have cartel drug money to afford it though...
  16. Hello all, I have a few more questions, just trying to learn. 1) What tactics can you use when flying head on in a Su-27 for example, against an F-14 (with those super long range missiles). I have viewed ironhands videos, and I can make those tactics work with most cases of being out-ranged by enemy's missiles, but those whatever-54 that the F-14 carry have to great a reach! I mean I can evade, 1 maybe 2, but I see that thing carries 4, and it always nails me with one of those, and if I'm lucky enough to evade all those first ones, he'll get me with another. 2) What is that white pod looking thing that I see often on the F-16C hanging on its center? Some kind of targeting device? 3) As far as I can tell, there are no fire and forget AA missiles for either the flanker or the fulcrum. So theoredically speaking, if I loose lock after I launched a missile at an enemy, the missile will fail, right? I think I have had occassions when I fire an R-77, and loose lock, but the R-77 still hit its target. Should this be? I tried using the search in the forum to find answers to my question, but the search function isn't working for me at all, nothing comes up. That's all for now, thank you for reading and helping out.
  17. Hello, I really like a mission in of the campaigns that came with FC. How can I extract that mission so I can fly it as many times as I want?
  18. EECH has infantry running around. I remember watching when the Hinds came in to take over an airbase, land, and then all these soldiers would run out all over the place, it was cool...
  19. Is there a way I can find out what is the exact goal by opening the campaign through the mission editor? The mission just says I have to protect my planes that will go do some ground attacks. I do save them all, and they do bomb their targets. I shoot down the planes that come to intercept them. If I could find out what needs to be done to move on, that would help.
  20. Hello all, I am having the hardest time with Mission #16 from "last chance" Mig-29 campaign. I have flown it over and over, destroying all enemy planes, and checking that I haven't lost any of my own, yet, when I bring up the goals, group 2 says 100 complete, but group 1 says 0, so I get partial sucess. What am I missing? Thanks...
  21. It looks awsome! The hind does look very cool (my country, Venezuela, has ordered a fleet of the export version). So BS will be an addition of lomac, to be installed over FC, right? So the general detail level of lock on will increase, but also, it will take a lot of computer power to run. I'm afraid that I won't get very good FPS. I have an AMD 3400+ and will soon install an X1800XT, and 2gig DDR4, but that's as high as I can upgrade it.... I have a feeling BS will eat that for breakfast. The arms race is now the hardware vs game race hehe....
  22. Hello all, got a few questions for you all: 1) on the Mig-29, the mach meter, why are the 2 needles, one thick and one thin? what does each one tell me? 2) What are those sparkles or dots that I see from the inside in my canopy, specially during the morning? if noone knows what I'm talking about I'll try posting a pic. 3) I have spent a wad of cash updating my pc, it will soon be: AMD 3400+, 2Gig RAM, ATI X1800XT 512mb. Should I expect very good frames with this? What does this sim consume the most, RAM, Video card? I know it's a lot of questions but I would really appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!
  23. I think probably everyone here has a monster system with high end graphics card. Otherwise you wouldn't be playing Lock on! But if anyone has a secondary pc, or an older pc that they keep around, you may be interested in my ATI Sapphire X1300 PCI Express. I need to sell it so it'll help me get a new better card. It's a very modest card but it put me through half life 2 with good detail settings and good FPS. It uses a passive cooling system, which works well. If anyone is interested: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330019400215&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=014 Help me save up to a new card:helpsmilie: :P
  24. Wow, you all know too much lol. Thanks for the info.
