Will I lose campaign progress with the patch?
Raven Morpheus replied to kontiuka's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Guys, please see these posts here, I managed to fix my missing UH-1H campaign progress - http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2180423&postcount=131 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2180484&postcount=132 If your logbook.lua doesn't have your already completed missions listed in it or you don't have a backup of that file I don't know what to do, but if you do happen to have a backup (presumably you all make regular backups of your C partitions?) you should be able to fix this. -

Raven Morpheus replied to Mrmaverick's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Thanks I didn't need to. See my edited post above. I just copied the old progress over the one in the current logbook.lua Also the line you've quote is already showing /mods/aircraft, so nothing for me to change there. Of course if you don't have a backup of the logbook.lua, luckily I make a backup every Saturday of my C partition, then I don't know how to fix loss of progress in a campaign. EDIT - aeliusg your method does indeed work, I just took the backed up logbook.lua and changed that line. So, two possible fixes for that issue, assuming you have a backup of that file because when I initially opened the one that had been modified tonight it didn't have the missions I'd done listed. -

Raven Morpheus replied to Mrmaverick's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Ah man! I was about to post to say this all went fine for me. Then I checked my UH-1H campaign progress... I had done 5 missions. Now there's nothing. I tried restoring a copy of my logbook.lua from a PC backup I made on Saturday but still no joy. My logbook shows I've completed 5 missions in the UH-1H campaign, but the campaign itself is showing 0!?! Any fix for this? I've read the thread and couldn't spot one. EDIT - fixed it myself. I loaded up the UH-1H campaign, as it's wiped my progress it loaded mission 1. I exited the mission. The game showed I had flown 1 mission in the campaign. So I exited, copied the list of missions flown from my backed up logbook.lua file to the current one (I opened them both in notepad++), ran the game and voila my progress is back where it was, 5 missions complete, on Patrols, 100 success rating or whatever that figure is. Hope that helps anyone else who has that issue. -
I often have problems with English, and it's my native language. What hope have I got with one of the reputed most difficult languages in the world?! Nice post though.

Just whilst I'm still on here I'll add that MSI Afterburner also provides a video recording facility, similar to Fraps. I tried using DXTory once, for IL2 1946, but it didn't seem to work for me.
-
In the mission builder there is a track recorder, you could try that. My attempts with it have been unsuccessful however, as it results in huge lag on my rig and I have to abandon the recording. I've uploaded a video of me flying/landing the , which I then posted in a thread elsewhere on these forums (a UH-1H sub-forum thread I opened up). I think I recorded that using Fraps (more than likely).

Warning new update renames folders
Raven Morpheus replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Cool. Should be easy to manage then. Glad someone spotted this, otherwise I'd be wondering why my controls indicators mods don't work. Seems I have to overwrite them every time I update anyway as they always seem to go back to default! Yes I know, I meant mod breaking folder-wise. -

So just to clarify, as I'm currently downloading the update, the only change is that mods\aircrafts has been changed to mods\aircraft? -
Yup OK, my bad. Just add +1 to the list then. :P

Hmm interesting. Thanks for the tip. I'll bear that in mind for the future.

Not sure if anyone has posted about this before so I thought I'd do so. I'd like to see a dynamic campaign generator along the lines of that which is available in IL2 1946. Currently I'm working my way (slowly) through the UH-1H campaign (I'm on mission 6) and (unsuccessfully so far) through some of the Ka-50 campaigns, I may get around to the A-10C campaign(s) when/if I can learn the weapons/nav systems properly. Once I'm done with those scripted campaigns however there is no reason for me to use the DCS modules I currently have unless the community make more campaigns (or I learn to myself). And that is even truer of newer modules such as the P-51D or F86 that I have considered buying - aside from additional user made single missions, and learning the planes (which I kind of know already from IL2 1946) there's nothing really to do with them. I'm sure many of you will say "but we've got the mission generator and mission editor" but to me that's just not the same in my opinion as a proper dynamic campaign generator.

I can sort of see the OP's point but the only thing I'm disappointed about, other than the fact that the sales came at a time that I didn't have the money to buy anything, is that the Steam sales are still going on and if I am right in my thinking I can't use the steam keys on my non-steam install or vice versa!?! The P-51 is still 60% off for the next 22hrs on Steam, for example! Having said that, without a proper campaign (a proper dynamic campaign generator, not just the single mission generator we currently have, would go a long way towards fixing that), and coupled with the framerate issues I suffer, I see no reason to buy any further modules. A heavily discounted sale would be the only time I would consider doing so, or if someone gifts me the money as happened with my recent purchase of A-10C.

Ah, I see. If you get a "mission success" message then that's obvious. But I didn't want to fly around aimlessly (assuming I even survive) wondering if I'd completed a mission, or not. If in the GOW campaign it's a case of "do what you can, the war carries on regardless" then that's good to know, I can just get shot down and carry on, or take out a couple of MBT's and RTB (again, if I survive that long). Hmm, yeah. Thing is with the AAA the other day, don't know if they were MANPADS or SAM emplacements (sorry can't recall the correct term for a SAM on a fixed mount/vehicle), I couldn't even see them (I only knew roughly where they were due to having the labels on), and there seemed to be no way of getting into the AO* without getting into range of SAMs, and I seemed to be well within range of the cannons on the MBT's even though they weren't all that big on my Shkval screen. :( *The AO seems to be set up like this - you take off from the FARP, turning right to what I think is north (it would be east from your starting point if you're already pointing north when you start the missiom), then you go over or around some hills on your left(ish) and then in front of you (again north I think) is a handful of settlements with AAA in them somewhere, and round to the left (presumably west) in a valley is another load of AAA on the right hand (presumably northern) ridgeline with RedFor and BluFor going at it in the valley floor.

Hello The other night (possibly last week now) I tried the 1st mission of the Georgian Oil War campaign. And I was very very unsuccessful. I managed to take down 1 MBT with a Vkhrs before getting shot down by another MBT on 1 of several tries of the 1st mission and the rest of the time I just spent fruitlessly trying to spot and engage the AAA that seemed to be located in small settlements around the AO, and consequently getting shot down. Either the AAA is very very well camouflaged, hidden behind buildings so I can't see them at all (I use the labels so I know roughly where targets are because spotting on a 19" 1080p TV isn't all that easy for me), or I've tweaked my graphics.lua too much and they just don't appear in the Shkval screen because I'm too far away!?! So, 2 questions - 1. Assuming I can survive how do I know that I've completed a mission? (Kind of applies to all missions really, not just in the campaign) 2. Any tips for surviving the campaign missions?

Upgrade for more FPS
Raven Morpheus replied to Raven Morpheus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Anything at this point would be welcome and I'd certainly give it a go. EDIT - I just tried that 14.4 drivers .dll in the bin folder trick. Doesn't help. I use the UH-1H Stray Eagle mission to test and without those two files I get about 25fps sitting on the FARP on a hot start. With those 2 files I get 9! I'm currently running 10.2 catalyst drivers because I have found they're the only ones I don't get flicker with due to running dual monitors, and I tried 14.7 a few weeks ago but had major problems uninstalling them after finding out the widely used fix for monitor flicker no longer works. I had to restore my C partition from a backup I had made 3 weeks earlier!! -
Upgrade for more FPS
Raven Morpheus replied to Raven Morpheus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
DCS isn't my sole reason for wanting to upgrade, I also play Project Cars, which is supposedly soon to be released. I play IL2 1946 v4.12.2m + TFM412. I'm awaiting GTA V. And I've got other games I play which I'm sure could do better with a newer GPU. DCS (don't know about GTA V obviously, and pCars is in Alpha/Beta still so has a way to go and hopefully will be optimised more) is the only one I can't quite seem to enjoy unless the map is practically empty. Even IL2 1946 a far older game, but still a flight sim, runs better than DCS, although that too does have it's framerate issues at times but no where near as bad as DCS is for me. Although I'm not flying helicopters in IL2 1946 so I'm not so close to the ground most of the time. Currently DCS seems to be rather unflyable if I have to do missions at 20fps, like the Ka-50 Georgian Oil War campaign mission 1, or if I can't land at FARPS in the UH-1H because I get in the region of 12fps as soon as I get to about 10nm. Ah OK I only checked it last night when fiddling around with my settings. Never tried it out to see what it does though. -
Upgrade for more FPS
Raven Morpheus replied to Raven Morpheus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This - I've tried it with everything on rock bottom, albeit just sitting on the FARP on the Stray Eagle mission and I only get about 5-10 extra fps and it looks ugly (more so than usual). -
Hello I'm thinking of upgrading my PC to hopefully get better fps in the flight sims I play (DCS World and IL2 1946). In about a month or two I may have saved about £150 (max +/- £10, and I stress the word may). To upgrade my CPU to an i7 would be too costly, as I'd have to buy a new motherboard, and even a basic package with a >=4ghz i7 + cooler + motherboard + RAM would cost me about £300-£400, and I just can't afford that at this time. I'm also inclined to partially build a completely new rig with a new case and PSU if I buy a new CPU/motherboard, and I totalled up the parts and they'd set me back just over £500, so again not affordable at this time. I've been looking around and I can however just about afford to upgrade my GPU to an XFX Radeo HD 7870 2GB for about £150, which is what I should have saved in a month or two. My question is this, given my current spec, listed below, will I get any better FPS from DCS world by upgrading to that GPU? I currently get on average 30-40 fps when flying in open unpopulated terrain with drops to around 12-20 fps, mostly when around FARPs like the one in the UH-1H campaign or other similarly populated areas, I had similar very low FPS the other day on the 1st mission of Georgian Oil War. My PC specs - AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE @3.2ghz Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 motherboard Corsair TX650 PSU Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB (would be replaced by the XFX 7870) 8GB 1333mhz RAM Hitachi 7200RPM HDD Windows 7 64bit Thanks in advance for any input on this.

Hello I have been digging through a few missions in the mission editor and I noticed they all seem to have a bullseye, but it doesn't always seem to be related to anything in particular to do with the mission. Does anyone have a guide on what bullseyes do, how they work, and what they are used for? TIA

Targeting problem when in auto-hover?!
Raven Morpheus replied to Raven Morpheus's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Er thanks but I think I'll stick with the one I've got. I just had to move a couple of buttons around to make it a bit more ergonomic, I now have the target lock button on the X52 throttle's "mouse" button. I can hold it whilst using the POV1 (the silver one on the X52 Pro stick) to move the reticule. With "lock target" on Fire A I couldn't do that without using 2 hands, for obvious reasons... BTW your "lock target" button (Fire D) is where I have my collective brake button, I find that more ergonomic to hold each time I move the throttle than the hat up button. :smilewink: -
Rudder Control: Twist Stick vs Pedals
Raven Morpheus replied to Visceral Raptor's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm finding, with an X52 Pro, that the Saitek Pro Flight pedals I bought are so far rather redundant (so much so that I've considered selling them) - A) because they just seem too big overall for how I sit (I think that would be the case with any rudder pedals though, I'd be better off using racing sim pedals if they worked in a similar fashion) and B) because I seem to get on fine so far with using the twist rudder. Given that I also have a space requirement - i.e. it has to be small enough that I can sit sideways on my 3ft wide pine bed on the wooden sit/ride on rig I built and comfortably use it, I feel I wasted money on the Saitek Pro Flight rudder pedals. I also think I wasted money on the X52 Pro (apart from the lack of "stiction" I'm sure it's not quite as good as my X45 was)} - I think I should have saved another £30 or so and got an X55 Rhino but they were out of stock when I needed to replace my X45 a few months ago and seeing as I've removed the throttle detent and added extra magnets to the sticks hall sensors I doubt they'd allow me to send my X52 Pro back and swap it for a X55 Rhino and pay the little extra, even if I undid those mods... Rudder pedals are a perfectly fine idea if you sit in the conventional way, on a chair/seat in front of a desk/table (or even like some probably do on the sofa in front of a big screen TV), or if you have the room (and $) and wish to build yourself a proper cockpit. Anything else and I'd say go with a twist rudder or similar. I really wish though that Saitek had kept the rudder rocker on the throttle of their HOTAS (the X52 style ones at least) like they had on the X45 - that to me was perfect! -
Just a note to other open track and ftnoir users, I was getting some unstable views out of both, neither could hold a zoomed in view well (for instance looking at the roof console in the UH-1H), and it kept flashing views occasionally also. I took a look in DCS's controls config in the options menu under axis commands (admittedly because I was actually looking for something else at the time) and I found that it had the axis for headtracking listed twice, once under a column for headtracker and once under a column for TrackIR. So I disabled all axis in the headtracker column for each module I have (Ka-50, UH-1H and A-10C), but left them in the TrackIR column and Open Track now seems to work much better, the other day after doing this I didn't notice any of the problems I had been having, and it seemed to move a little smoother.

Couple of questions - simple ones...
Raven Morpheus replied to Raven Morpheus's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Cool thanks. That's what I thought, just wanted to check. Seems I suck at BS combat anyway. Trying the first mission of Georgian Oil War I can't even get into the AO without getting taken down by SAMs and the MBT's to the left. I did manage to take down 1 MBT but that was it. Frame rate doesn't help either, I'm getting in the region of 20fps! So, I switched to IL2 1946 and tried to take down a few Bettys with a F4U-1D Corsair and couldn't even take 1 of them down, I ended up flying into one!! Seems I suck the big one today. :( -
Hello again Silly question time (well 2 actually) - 1. What button on the PVI-800 nav keypad do I press to switch between TPs? Is it the one marked Nav TGT? I'm about to start the Georgian Oil War campaign and mission 1 tells me to go to 4 TPs and take out targets, but primarily TP1, so I need to know how to switch between them for nav purposes... 2. I know Deployment has this issue (it's an issue for me at least), but do any of the Black Shark campaigns have an English dub, or will I be reading tons of text in-flight like I have to in Deployment, the sole reason I've never bothered doing Deployment, because campaign specific speech is all in Russian!?!
