Does anyone know if it's possible - stock or mod - to lock the current waypoint so that it does not automatically increment when you fly over it? For example, there are targets at a waypoint, and you want to make multiple passes, so you lock the current waypoint in order to use the HSI to come around again for another pass.

Server's up again; in fact it's not been down since last night.
-
I left the server on all night - and amusingly, when I got up again the sun in game had gone down, so time passes in game, I guess :) As an experiment I'm leaving the game server and teamspeak on all day. I'll be at work, and thus not able to do anything if the server needs resetting, but you are all welcome to use it. It currently has one of VapoR's training missions loaded: lots of ground targets for CAS, but watch out for the low level air defenses! ;)
-
The "Su-25 Squadron" server is up on the public server list. We'll be running some new Su-25 training maps that VapoR has put together. Come blow %#@# up! Teamspeak server is at: ts32.gameservers.com:9105
-
Yeah - the whole "you MUST do this" aspect didn't quite sit right; hence the open question.
-
So... I think that teamspeak REALLY enhances immersion and participation. I've also seen that there are publicly accessible servers, BUT they are password protected; you have to get the password off the teamspeak server. This is to "encourage" people on the server to use the teamspeak in game. What do people think? Is this too heavy handed an approach?
-
We discussed the whole "time zone" issue a bit last night, and I think we agreed that everyone is welcome. However, events, flight times, practices, training sessions, etc. will be scheduled around North American time zones (GMT -5 to -8). It's more if a question of whether you feel that schedule is acceptable to you, than whether we think you "fit in". Until and unless they prove otherwise through bad behavior, anyone is welcome.
-
I'm flying the Su-25A/T exclusively right now - and even I agree we need a high fidelity fighter. I think the MiG-21 will probably be the first, and it's really an Interceptor/Fighter.
-
But the Su-25 doesn't have brake pedals IRL, it's all on the stick ;)
-
I'll have to look at Servman, Teamviewer, and the auto-restart script. With those in place ... I might be able to field at least a semi-dedicated server - at least I wouldn't have to worry about the server running while I'm not physically present (or awake).
-
We had an open public DCS server, and teamspeak server last night. VapoR, KonkursKiller, and myself were in the teamspeak channel running a squad flight on VapoR's new training mission map - with a varied selection of people wandering in from the public and running CAS on the target groups that were set up. Many thanks to VapoR for putting the mission together - it was a lot of fun, and as I didn't crash and die (and got stupidly lucky with a couple of racks of FAB-250s), I consider it a success! :D Unfortunately I can't field a dedicated server, but keep an eye out this evening around 19:00 EDT, for "Su-25 Squadron" in the open public server list. I'll post the teamspeak server address in the server into / mission briefing when people get there. You are welcome - nay encouraged - to use the teamspeak channels when you're on the server. Hopefully see you there! ---- edit: Oh wait! I did crash and die running off the end of the runway when my drogue chute wouldn't deploy. I still think it was a success.
-
So the server is up - or will be up shortly - under the server name "Operation Northern Darkness"on the public server list. Edit: should now be up - let me know if it's not visible. Edit: Server now has a teamspeak server: ts32.gameservers.com:9105 Edit: Server is now down again. Thanks to all those that took part!

Do you guys want me to fire up a server around 7:30EDT or so - or do you want to fly the 159th server - or there's no reason not to do both? I won't be offended if people want to go with 159; I don't have a teamspeak server set up. I'll fire a DCS server instance up ~7:30EDT, and post it here. If no one comes, I'll assume everyone's hanging out at the 159th and wander over there :)
-
If there's interest - and in interests of "stress testing" my system's suitability as a server - I'd propose trying to run this: Operation Northern Darkness: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/250469/ I should be available to host this tonight if there are any Su-25/T pilots wants to take a crack at this with me :) If the server works under load, we can swap out this mission with VapoR's mission, in the next day or so when it is done. Sound reasonable?
-
VapoR, you have my email - if you want to send me the mission file, I can fire it up and test it out. If you and number3 (who is probably less than an hour away from me, I'd warrant) want to test out the server load tonight, or Thursday (or whenever), I can clear some time in the evenings. If it works OK with a handful of pilots, we can post a message here when I put the server up (and again when I take it down), and whomever wants could join in.
-
They're not hard to find; they're the black dot at the end of the white line coming towards you :D

If people want to arrange a time this weekend to get a couple of pilots together to fly the Su-25/T, I'll willing to try and host a server. I've got 10Mbps upload speed, so my connection should be good enough; I've heard you need 1Mbps upload speed for every 4 pilots on the server. I don't know how many simultaneous pilots my system will handle - I've not seen any guidelines on this front. Against the possibility of my system not being able to handle the load, we could maybe gather on someone else's public server (if that's not considered rude), and fill the Su-25 roles there. I don't have a teamspeak server handy though. Edit: doesn't HAVE to be the Su-25 or 25T - but we're concentrating on Russian aircraft. Edit #2: I'm also not trying to step on anyone's toes here; I've volunteering to help, not trying to take over someone else's idea.

I wasn't fast enough with my update :) I've noticed this with the Su-25 (original), but it's all I've been flying of late. I'll find and post the track when I get back home. Thanks,
-
Apologies if this is a duplicate thread, although I didn't see anything like this in search. I've noticed this happen several times on public servers: if I restart aircraft for whatever reason, I sometimes lose all radio traffic sound, and even subtitles. I'll ask for start-up permission, and I'll get the white outlined status box at the top-left of the screen informing me that I'm clear to start, but I won't hear any radio message, and I won't see the radio messages subtitles. From this point on, I get no radio traffic or sub-titles whatsoever. I can hear my outgoing radio and see my own sub-titles for airport inbound notification, waypoint navigation guidance, landing clearance, etc. - but nothing incoming. This only seems to happen when in "server mode" - and I've had this happen both on someone else's server, and in my own program when I've been set up as a public server. The problem persists until I do a complete program shutdown and restart. Changing planes doesn't seem to "kickstart" the radio. I haven't thought to save a track where this has happened, but next time this happens, I'll save the track and post it here. ---- Addendum: I've only noticed this with the Su-25, but that's all I've been flying recently. I don't know if this affects other aircraft or not. I do have the most recent - Oct 8th - update installed
-
I haven't saved or checked a track where this happened, but if it happens again, I'll check that out. Also - as per the thread title, I'm been flying only Russian aircraft when this happens - Su-25 and Su-25T
-
I've never had this happen on single player, but on a multi-player server, I've had this happen several times recently. I leave an aircraft (or die, or crash) I get a new aircraft from the multiplayer menu I get that tone - and yes, it's the one in the YouTube video I leave that plane, and go back to the main multiplayer menu I re-select the plane No tone And yes, I have the latest - October 8th - update.

Just out of curiosity - what is the state of this idea? Is there are dedicated server in the works - and if so, how is it being funded? Squadron member contributions aren't a bad idea, but usually the guy fronting it ends up paying more, sadly. If not a dedicated server - would it work to "round robin" host amongst players with enough upstream bandwidth to support it? Is it possible to just gather on existing public server(s) and fly as a squadron? Is that even allowed, or polite to the server hosts? Website: Existence? Hosting? Creation? Structure? Squadron "atmosphere": casual, semi-formal, formal, "hard core military Sim, and salute when you say that soldier!"? Expected level of flight compentence? Willingness to train up completely green recruits? questions, questions, questions ...

The instructions are your heading - "Heading 335..." - and distance - "...for 20 ..." - to the ATC control space entry way-point. If you look at the diagrams for the airports, you'll see a set that has a rectangular box around the airport, with distinct paths in and out of way-points on the edges of the box. These are the points that flights are expected to enter, and leave, ATC controlled airspace. If you steer to this waypoint, and are more-or-less on the heading of the runway (e.g. 330 for runway 33), you're pretty much lined up for a "low and slow" landing. Your ILS should light up, and you can follow the glide path in. "...QFE 29.8" refers to setting of your barometric altimeter so that your target airport is at zero elevation. If you look at the barometric altimeter on the Su-25, there's an odometer slyle number counter down near the bottom which you can adjust up and down with Rshift+ and Rshift-. You can also use these keys to "zero out" the altimeter needle before takeoff. If you've done this, and you're returning to your home airstrip, you shouldn't need to change this. Most airports near the coastline will have "close enough" QFEs that you mostly don't need to tinker much with this, but if you're flying between Kutaisi and Tbilisi - for example - the zero altitude can change by 70 meters or so. That might just throw off your landing :D As for orbiting, you can ignore this in single player - although it might be good practice to try a couple. As for contacting the tower, pull up the radio menu with the \ key, and it should be option F1. The tower will give you runway clearance. You don't really need to do this in single player, but it's good practice for if/when you get to playing on public servers; if you have tower clearance for a runway, the ATC will not assign the runway to anyone else, and will warn off other inbound planes trying to land there, and will wave you off is someone taxis onto the runway. Of course, that won't protect you from a rude jerk who will just barrel down on the runway and crash into you regardless of what ATC is saying - but most servers frown on "runway jumping" and may even kick repeat offenders. Hope that helped.

Good point. OK - if there's an Su-25A/T centric public server out there, I'll definitely come play :)
-
Firstly - the Su-25A is my favorite plane right now. However, I think you'd need more than Su-25As flying in a theater. You'd need CAP and SEAD as well as ground units to ... well ... support, since the Su-15A is as CAS platform. That doesn't mean you can't build a squadron around Su-25 centric missions however. You can set up scenarios where the CAP and SEAD are set up to be just enough to allow the Su-25s to fly the main "meat" of the scenario. Su-25Ts can do SEAD, but you'd need some sort of CAP fighter in there as well. E.g. A forward edge of battle, where there's a few SAMs back of the line, some Vulcans or Shilkas backing them up, and some fighters doing enemy CAP. Then it's a case of the fighters peeling back the enemy CAP, the 25Ts taking out the SAMs and the Su-25A squadron taking out the infantry and light armor units in the enemy front line, while the 25Ts switch over Vikhr's and start popping the enemy heavy armor units. If you're playing with FC3 for the Su-25A, then you have a good selection of air-to-air platforms.
