Even at an air base? It was a quick generated mission.
-
I had this problem when I first tried the training missions. Hasn't happened in a while and its happening right now even though I've played several other missions tonight and it's been fine. Click DTS upload, wait for dots, then select TAD. The steerpoints etc are there just no colour map underneath everything. Obviously forgetting to do something but I don't know what.

That's really interesting thanks. So all the hype about GPS targeting was a mostly just that then, hype. The inertial systems were already in place and the GPS was just icing on the cake. I wonder how many JDAMs hit their target before they even latch onto a sat signal.
-
The term IAM seems odd to me as without the GPS aspect it is not going to work. I like the term GPS/INS better. I always assumed GPS guided weapons merely checked their own GPS coordinates versus the targets until they matched though. I never realized all the other gyro/accel sensors were used too. Are these as backup in case it loses signal with the satellite?
-
Yeah this is a good point! Though there are other weapon systems like the F16 which can easily do the same. You don't need a flying tank for that.
-
In the simulation are IAM & GPS/INS weapons the same thing? It mentions both in the manual however it doesn't seem to differentiate their use. I am still reading through the manual so I may have missed something but I just wanted to clarify this. Wikipedia's information really just groups all the JDAM weapons into one page and trying to get further info on the specific weapons gives more info on the basic dumb bomb rather than the guidance portion. Edit : Link explaining how JDAM works: http://science.howstuffworks.com/smart-bomb2.htm

What can the A10 do in the current theaters we have that the Apache can't do?
-
Yeah I see what you're referring to. I've seen numerous people calling it "breathing". I'm all set firing Mavs from their own cam and using the TGP now plus the basics of dumb bombs in CCIP mode after a late night of flying. It's all coming together slowly but surely.

Bloody fantastic. That's just what I need. Thanks!

CH Fighterstick not registering long press.
jeproject replied to jeproject's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I get it now. Plus it makes more sense why the manual always refers to specific RL HOTAS controls rather than what the control does. Sorry for pointless thread. Helps brain to "say" things out loud sometimes. -
CH Fighterstick not registering long press.

Sorry just read that I've misunderstood what the long and short press capabilities in DCS are for. I still don't understand it tbh but I will re-read it a few more times. -
After trying a few CH Manager profiles that didn't do exactly as stated: (I'm guessing some of the default key presses must have changed since the profile was made as the most of the buttons are correct but a couple change the wrong thing i.e. swapping MFCDs rather then setting HUD as SOI). I decided I might as well just set everything myself in the game. It's not registering long presses of any buttons when choosing controls though. CH manager is set in direct mode now.

I've been using x64 since XPx64(2003) and the benefits are still pretty minimal in most games. It's a shame it takes so long for devs to have the funding to take advantage of things.

Aye thanks guys. I'm aware of correlate however I haven't used it yet. Don't want to find myself using it as an easy fix because I can't get a lock. Next step after a few flights will be using TGP to target. I just didn't want to get shot at it and lose it and then be like ok so how do I shoot back now lol.
-
Duh this makes absolute sense. I've mainly been locking on to buildings for testing. Time to break out some unarmed trucks in the editor I guess! I assumed that the lines would still go to the same point but obviously as it is locked onto the contrasting area there's no focal point as such. Does the missile go towards the center of the shape it's locked onto then? Thanks for the reply.
-
Ok I see the difference now (having watched more youtube footage) between force correlate lock (total cross) and normal lock where there's a gap about the size of the target on screen but I'm sure I've had it where the gap is massive. Is it because I was at a different zoom setting?
-
I've just started using the Maverick H & Ds and atm I'm not using the TGP as I want to keep the number of systems I'm using minimal while I learn. Sometimes I can still fire and hit the target without a solid cross. I've read a few posts saying the manual is wrong and that you don't need a solid cross and the gap just gets smaller but I'm still confused as to what says I have a valid lock. Pressing release weapon until it launches makes me feel like I'm playing an arcade game and takes away a lot of the reward feeling from the kill. Jason

I wasn't selecting EGI which is why I couldn't enable EAC. My point about the game code was that whilst selecting EAC with the mouse the switch correctly (as I now know) moves back to the original position. However using the keyboard it does not which the game is showing the switch in the incorrect position. It's very hard to learn something when you don't know if what the game is showing you is what you are supposed to be seeing. This was my concern as the benchmark for whether I was doing the correct thing or not was suddenly quite skewed. Thanks all for helping me and I understand why you guys get frustrated answering the same stuff all the time. No one's really even noticed what I said about the difference between the keyboard and mouse control interactions though. You get annoyed with the same old questions, but getting the same answers as soon as someone mentions EAC is irritating too even though there was more to my post than that

EAC not with mouse I'm still finding that no matter what I can not CLICK the EAC switch. I have to assign it to a keyboard combination. If I use the mouse it just clicks back, if I use the keyboard it stays put however the EAC warning light remains on. Is the mouse not working, or is the keyboard only graphically working and not actually turning on EAC at all. I've had this problem since I bought the DVD of A10 DCS and it put me completely off for a year. Now I'm back with DCS world module and it's still doing it. How are you supposed to learn such a complicated sim with these kinds of inconsistencies in the actual game code?
