I notice this has been up for a few days with no reply. Not sure what you mean by airport pattern kneeboard. The Grim Reapers have 1 or 2 videos on approaching an airfield that you might find helpful. There are lots of other resources available via any internet search engine. Civilians traffic patterns vary only slightly from military operations.

Assign a button to "WEAPON RELEASE" Ensure the "MASTER ARM" in the left upper panel is in the ON position Try cycling through the weapons mode with the number keys at the top of the keyboard. I think 3 or 4 will put it in GUN mode. You see the change in the HUD. Then push the WEAPONS RELEASE button or <RALT> + <SPACEBAR>.

I think we should keep in mind that we have purchased "Pre-Release" software. I saw huge improvements in the DCS F/A-18 and in X-Plane in the first view months after the public release. I really had to lean in to see the MFD's. The HUD was often blurry and one step above barely usable. I typically have pretty good luck with being able to see things in VR with the Rift S. I'm sure this will improve.

Should be fun watching the progression. Keep us posted.

Using the 2.5 beta installer vs upgrade because I want to move DCS to a different drive on the PC. I am immediately asked if I want to copy the files from the ALPHA installation. Selecting YES brings up a "copying" dialog box but nothing happens from there. I've had to cancel twice. By selecting NO on the third attempt the installation appears to be copying files from the ALPHA installation right away.
