  1. I think most of us understand that the AI Dora is a little quirky regarding its FM and DM. Very challenging, yes, but historically believable, well.................. Desiring a somewhat more realistic challenge, I tried the P-51 v P-51 mission in the mission editor. It was my hope that the AI P-51, with a fully developed flyable alter-ego, would offer a more imersive, historically credible opponent. Although the FM wasn't quite as stellar as it's AI buddy, the Dora, I found that after blasting him with over 100 hits (checked the log afterwards) of .50 caliber ammo, trailing fuel, coolant and oil, and holes in every square inch of his visual model, this guy was just getting warmed up. His engine continue to hum in the same pitch that mine does only when it's at Military. And it never changed. Even after giving him this very severe mauling, his continued performance showed no sign-ZERO- that anything was out of adjustment, let alone damaged. After finally running out of ammo, I stupidly decided to go to WEP and outdistance him in his shot up crate. Certainly he would be unable to catch me................ Well, you can guess the rest. :( This is a fantastic sim, very imersive and fun, even educational regarding the detail with which the Mustang has been engineered. But when do we get a believable AI to fight against? I'm all for a challenge, but a realistic challenge would be very welcome at this point. Devs?
  2. I have a fairly powerful rig, and even with that being the case, the rear-view mirror on the P-51 can cause a noticeable drop in frames.Try not deploying the mirror and see if that helps-
  3. Thanks July! I'm at work at the mo, but I'll give it a go when I get home tonight!
  4. Gents, I just installed my new warthog. The flight control stick is working fine, but the throttle is acting as a rudder pedal. I can't seem to assign an axis to it in OPTIONS, even though Thrustmaster Warthog appears in the columns. Windows seems to recognize the throttle, but I also checked it in ROF and COD, and it acts as a rudder in each. Please advise? :( many thanks in advance, I'm sure it's just old age or stupidity on my part..................
  5. @Gavagai- Thanks for the effort to make a track for me, but your track has the same issue as when I make a track- after a while things get out of synch and you ended up chasing and shooting at a shadow while the "phantom" FW was on your tail! Weird, I know.............. @ Streakeagle-Thank you. I definitely notice a difference in the AIs "attitude" toward you. Yours was more of a vertical turnfight, whereas mine usually ends up with him going to rocket-assisted takeoff into the stratosphere the instant he passes in front of my 3-9 line. Going to try again at Military Power, as I could see you close/ recover from stall condition much better than I do @ Maximum Continuous. Do you mind if I ask what percentage of fuel loadout your P-51 is set up with? PS- great shooting at the Coup de Grace!
  6. Gavagai-do you have, or would you be willing to make, a YouTube of you putting down the Dora? There are some videos out there but I would be interested in seeing your technique. I invariably am outdistanced by this guy buy a wide margin, regardless of my power settings. And even with TrackIR, I lose tally way too often. He separates so quickly that he basically disappears. Fortunately finding him again is never a problem. All I have to do is look behind me :(
  7. I tried another fight at Maximum Continuous (46" and 2700 RPM) and seems OK. I was sure wanting that extra power at times though- I think this sim will force me to adopt an even more realistic approach to engine management.
  8. I have noticed that after a period of intense dogfighting, my engine will simply lock. Engine dead, prop frozen, instant engine death.. I need answers. Because- I do not run my engine at max, nor do I overspeeed my prop. I have noticed that coolant temp is very dynamic on the Mustang, so I watch that carefully. In the most recent instance of this phenomenon,I had just put down the Dora (for the first time!) and throttled way back, reduced RPMs well into the green, checked my coolant and cylinder head temps. All good. Then, for no apparent reason, as I was getting ready to do a Victory roll, my engine locked. I looked at coolant temp and now it's redlined. This is less than 3 seconds after checking it when it was full green. WTF? How does an engine go from fat, dumb, and happy to overheat seize-up in three seconds with MAP at 40 inches and RPMs at 2200? Befeore anyone asks, my "Victory" was over a FW with it's teeth pulled, i.e., no ammo. So he didn't damage me prior (I know, I know, it's the only way I can shoot the bastage down right now :( ) What's going on??? I appreciate any constructive feedback- I'd like to get to the bottom of this. Chris
  9. I'm going to go with 75.9%. But math was never my strong suit :( Let's hear what others have to say-
  10. +1
  11. No problem!
  12. Ivo, Go into Mission Editor; Under "File" (at the top, not the side) select Open. Then select mission "P-51D vs FW-190 Dogfight.miz; You will see the mission map for that mission. The red icon represents the Focke-Wulf. Click on it. To the right you will see many parameters that can be edited, select the tab called Payload. There is where you will find the attributes that have been assigned to the 190. Pilot skill, loadout, fuel state, mission orders, etc. You may select from the drop-downs and edit the qualities of the enemy plane any way you like. Then then select Save or Save as. Go back into the main menu, and your changes will be in effect. PS this is also how we select new skins for our planes.:) Hint: The FW-190 is by default set at the LOWEST level of AI. Another hint: The way the FW fights in the Dogfight mission is almost certainly how a Dora pilot would behave in a 1v1 versus a Mustang at that altitude (6K+ feet). The AI in DCS, to me at least, (29 years of flight sim experience and a lifetime of study of WWII air combat) is probably among the very best out there at this time. Not perfect, but very, very good. Good hunting!
