  1. But what time is the golden question.
  2. Everyone needs to stop spreading this disinformation. You can use Store-bought modules on Steam DCS with the smallest amount of prepwork.
  3. Don't forget, you -can- use Store modules on Steam. It's just kind of tempermental sometimes, and is 100% unsupported by ED or Steam Support
  4. Yes, you can use modules from standalone in a Steam installation.* I will personally help you if you ask, and add me on Steam, at http://steamcommunity.com/id/fennecfoxes/
  5. Are you seriously equating adding a single weapon to an aircraft that isn't even that good for the sake of giving it something worth a poop to use to making DCS like BF4? Are you legitimately insane? God forbid they make a game even remotely 'fun'.

  7. Using Store Modules on Steam DCS: The Guide Installing Store Modules onto Steam DCS Guide last updated 12/06/2014 Hello! I am Ivan, and I'm here to tell you how to install those pesky ED Store modules onto your Steam version of DCS:W! DO NOT GO RUNNING TO ED IF YOU MANAGE TO SCREW THIS UP. THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. This is all from what I've personally run into so far. I will make as much as an effort as I can, so far as going one-on-one, to help resolve any issues that may arise during various installations. I am still learning from this, and thus, am learning through each error. Through time, we can and will compile all the many issues that can arise, and we will conquer them. First, we'll move to the Prerequisites 1.) You'll need to be on the Open-Beta branch of the Steam Version of DCS:W 2.) You'll need to download the latest DCS OpenBeta Updater, Here. 3.) You'll need an installer for a STORE module that you purchased from the STORE. Now, let's get to the basics: The Setup First, you need to run the Installer for the DCS OpenBeta Updater from the ED STORE, and install it to it's own location, seperate from the Steam version. Make sure it fully installs, and let it start to download. The first thing the updater will do is Update itself, by downloading the latest updater. Once it's done, and attempts to download a 15gb+ Patch, press CANCEL, and close the updater. Second, navigate to the location of the Updater (C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin by default) and copy the DCS_Updater.exe over to your Steam version of DCS World C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\DCSWorld\bin), and place it there. Third: Run the updater, and allow it to download the latest version info file. This file is generally downloaded first, and is clearly stated that it's being downloaded by the updater. Instead of attempting to download a large patch, what it'll do is start searching for already installed files. Once it begins this, cancel and close the updater. The Installation Now, you are fully equipped, and ready, for an installation of a Store Module to Steam! Here goes! First, take your installer for your aircraft (I'll be using MiG-21bis as an example), and run it. When it asks where to be installed, navigate it to your DCSWorld main folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\DCSWorld by default), and press 'Next'. Second: Watch it install! Excitement! Joy! Third: After installation, go into the DCSWorld\bin folder and run the DCS_Updater once again. It may or may not re-download the version info file. If it doesn't, and continues to search for installed files, cancel and close. Fourth: Open DCS World through Steam. If you've followed the steps correctly, it should open just fine. It may ask for your key for the aircraft at this point, or you may have to open an 'Instant Action' mission for it to pop the activation window. If neither of those things occur, and you load into a blank cockpit, you'll have to manually activate it by going to DCSWorld\Mods\Aircraft\XXXXX\bin, (replacing XXXXX with the aircraft's name) and run protect.exe as an administrator. From there, you must press 'Next' to enter your key, and activate it. If it starts up, and is flyable, congratulations! You're not done yet! Just to ensure stability, run each aircraft that you own through STEAM by flying an Instant Action mission. All you need to do is load each one to ensure that it is still activated. If it's not, you may need to manually re-activate it, but instead of pressing 'Next', you press 'I already have an activation key', and it should re-activate without using any of your licenses. Updating Whenever an update ships onto the Steam version of DCS, simply run DCS_Updater.exe again, and let it download the latest version info file, then close it. TROUBLESHOOTING This section may grow as problems arise. Proceed with Caution. Problem: The Aircraft I installed doesn't show up in the 'Instant Action' menu! Probable Solution: Go into your Steam installation of DCSWorld, and check the \bin folder for a folder called 'Mods', or 'Aircraft'. If those are present, simply open them until you've found the folder with your aircraft's name, and copy/paste that folder directly into the DCSWorld\Mods\Aircraft folder.
  8. Like I said, I'm lazy. I'll write it up tomorrow.
  9. Only because you came off as trying to start trouble. Steam will update your modules just fine, and infact DCS updates contain all the necessary updates regardless of whether you own the modules or not. I'll type up a complete, detailed tut when I'm at home later tonight (4 hours-ish?)
  10. I take it you don't understand anything I've said in this thread, so I'll dumb it down for you. You install DCS through steam. You install an updater from ED. You put updater in the Steam DCS folder. You then install planes. All updates are through Steam. You only have to run the ED updater to download a single file thats smaller than a typical mp3. And no duh you can't use Steam credit on the ED store. What are you even getting at?
  11. What? If you're implying you can't play the Steam version of DCS with store modules, you're sorely mistaken Okay, what are you asking? Are you asking if you can pay me? What?
  12. Or it's out now for Steam if you want to spend 15 minutes to fly it now instead of waiting a week or two.
  13. I have considered it, but I much prefer handling with people on a 1 on 1 basis. Plus, I'm pretty lazy. Though now I'll certainly consider it.
  14. Essentially, that's what's being done. However, using dcsupdater to do the majority of updating is more work than allowing steam to do most of it. So no, while it may be the same concept, it's more work to set up, and requires more work when an update is shipped.
  15. But it's really not. Updating is this: Let steam do it's thing, then run DCS_Updater.exe in the bin folder to grab the newest version_info file. Bing, bang, boom, done.
  16. And see, that's what I do differently. When I help them, I put all the knowledge to them, teach them how to maintain the seperate module installations with version files, and all the steps inbetween.
  17. Of course. Anyways, I'm up to help so long as I'm awake.
  18. Are you trying to imply I can't because of an unrelated publishing agreement that I'm not a part of?
  19. The first point is usually the killer: No one wants to attempt to support this all. I'm going to try.
  20. You mean like Family Sharing? If it's on the same computer, probably, but I haven't tested that yet. For a different computer, no, you'd have to install the Store Modules there, too. If you mean the new "Steam Broadcasting" feature, yes, it most certainly works.
  21. Hello! If you purchased BF-109K4 already from the ED Store, and wish to use it with the Steam version, and need help installing it, add me on Steam ( http://steamcommunity.com/id/fennecfoxes ), and I will assist you. It's fairly easy to do, and only involves editing a couple text-files. Installing ED-Store Modules on the Steam version is actually very possible, and easy as well. Got questions? Ask, and I will answer.
  22. Why wait when you don't have to, though? I currently own all modules, half are ED Store, and half are Steam. Updating's a breeze: You don't need to do much extra that Steam doesn't do, it's literally running a single .exe, and pressing close when it downloads one file. The only weird thing to do is enabling module manager, and even then, that's just for BF-109K4 since the installer files aren't available yet. There is almost zero "big" downsides to doing it this way. Edit: Wow, now MultiQuote works.
  23. It is more than possible to install BF-109K4 into the Steam version of DCS. I spent about 10 minutes tinkering, and got it working flawlessly, including enabling Module Manager on the STEAM version of DCS. If you would like to do so, add me on Steam at http://steamcommunity.com/id/fennecfoxes , and I will personally assist you in installing this beautiful bird. The only things you need is to legally own it, and the knowledge of how to edit a text file.
  24. Once I'm home, I'll make a video to help better educate you. It'll be akin to "DCS on Steam for Dummies."
  25. It is very possible. It's 3 major steps. The very basic part is that you have to install the module over the steam version, go to that module's bin folder and run protect.exe with admin rights. Stick the key in, activate it, and then you must run DCS_UPDATE.exe, which you'll have to grab from the store. It'll download the necessary store version file, since steam doesnt download that, and you're all set. Age does not mean you're suddenly wiser than the rest of us. Even if 20 is young to you, at least I'm not some dinosaur.
