  1. Yepl I had traffic turned off when I did the 30% mod. Lesson learned. Even at 60%, the trees are still way too big. We'll see what 70% or 80% gives here shortly.
  2. Yep. I just got out of the sim at a 60% reduction and the trees are still too big. Going to setup a 70% and 80% and test. Here's what I'm seeing as far as the forests are concerned. Apparently ED's coding is superb. The smaller the trees get, the more of them thier code loads into the forest blocks. So, in effect, by reducing the size of the trees it looks like were gaining trees. Also, the reduction has opened up a little more space between the trees making them look more natural. I can tell you this, at 60% reduction, things are appear to speed by much quicker. I'll post up a finished mod once I get 70% and 80%. Then folks can choose what suits their tastes. I'm thinking I'll be at 80%. I know that seems nuts, but it's what I think will look right.
  3. That is a good question and something I didn't think about. I can say I have buzzed the trees just over ten feet above them and have not been whacked yet!
  4. As far a screenshots guys, not much really to show. You'll just see slightly smaller trees. The real magic is in motion. Try the mod, if you don't like it, remove it. It only takes a few seconds now that Pedro has wrapped it up in JSGME format for everyone. Piece of cake! Thanks for zipping it up Pedro!
  5. I never really check that to be honest. I have a button on my hotas to adjust it on the fly. I set it to where it looks right and leave it there mostly.
  6. Don't mind at all. Saves me the trouble.
  7. Don't edit the null characters. In Notepad++, click near the top line in the file then just use CTRL-H and paste the original value in the "Search for" field and in the "Replace with" field paste the new value. Click the "replace all" button and it will replace all entries for that value in the file. Once you are done with all the values save the file and you are done.
  8. For those that are interested. I have reduced the default tree sizes by 30%. Perfecto! Speed is now accurate and the trees now look to scale. I thought that it would open up terrain in the heavily forested areas but that is not the case at all. The change there is very slight and really not noticeable at all. There are two files that need to be modded. Do a CTRL+H and replace the "Original Entry" (left column) with the "New Value" (right column) from the chart below. I use Notepad++. Notepad should do. The "30% Diff" value was just for my calculation to get the "New Value" and is not needed. NOTE: I included the raw text for those that want to try so they can copy and paste. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR ORIGINALS FIRST! Not sure if this might affect multiplayer. so BACKUP FIRST! 9. Yes, I noticed that too. You can see this in the video I posted as well. I did some poking around last night and found this located in the "\DCS 2.5\Mods\terrains\Caucasus\Models\BlockTrees" folder. It's a file named "BlockTrees.ref. The tinkerer in me wonders what the effect might beof changing the DummySize entries highlighted in the image below to smaller values. I haven't found anything else related to tree size.
  10. Anyone else think the trees are a tad too big in 2.5? I noticed it when I realized that while traveling at 450 knots, it looks like I'm going 225 knots, if that. It's the trees. They are scaled too big. The end result is it causes your aircraft to appear to be going much slower than it really is. The old Strike fighters game had this issue. I created a mod to reduce the size of the trees by about one third and the sensation of speed was back. Is there any way to do that in 2.5 you suppose? I wonder what the effect might be on tree placement in 2.5 if there is a way. Love the update and everything about it. Would like to get the sensation of speed back if at all possible. Here's a link to a video that shows a side-by-side comparison of 1.5 and 2.5. You can definitely see the size difference in the trees. This has a tremendous negative affect on sensation of speed.
