I turned it off today by accident (testing settings) and it was a huge relief. Before, with HDR, I was flying with tunnel vision, with a small window of clear eyesight. I am not sure the reason for this feature, but I am glad to have found a way out of it. The problem is, with HDR off the Sun becomes just a white circle, no rays, no nothing. Is there a way to get the Sun back without the HDR with blinders?

Just to give an update, I lowered all the settings, turned AA off and such, low VRAM usage, and I was still having heavy stuttering. Then I remembered that my Gskill DDR3 TridentX was set on default at 1333Mhz -- I was being lazy to test different timings because at 2400Mhz the voltage was a bit high. But today I went back to the XMP at 2400Mhz and the stuttering is much, but much better. It feels like I updated my graphics card. Even at high 40s there is no stuttering. Then I set Preload Radius to 50000 (before was at 30000). And it got even smoother. I imagine that at 30000 I was having problems to constantly load the terrain and make matters even worse. I tried at 100000 and I think it is too much. I settled for 60000 for the time being. I am still having occasional stuttering, but it is totally playable, even with AAX2. I'll try going up with it. It might give me some room to wait for the Pascal refresh / Volta.

The strange of it all is that I checked and rechecked these things a few times after I saw the problem. On "controls" I did not find any search results for "assistance", "rudder" (related to take-off assistance" or "take" (for take-off). It just went back to normal with the restart, I just don't know how. Perhaps some key on the keyboard that I hit, I am not sure.
-
Thanks, I tested this morning and it went back to normal. Looks like the reboot restored the default. I am not sure, because I turned it off yesterday without a solution.

I was on the server right now and "take off assistance" seems to be on (I don't know how that works). I almost crashed on take-off when I applied rudder to the P-51D. I have not checked rudder assistance or take off assistance in my settings. It happened as well in another server, but it was not like that this afternoon. Is it some kind of bug or did I do something wrong? Don't recall messing with my settings lately.

Cool, I was not sure if it was related. Maybe he has some insights regarding the 3D rendering at close distance.

Thanks for the feedback guys. A part of me imagined that the problem could have been in my system, but I have two other simulators and I have no problem spotting planes, so it is not my monitor or my adjustment. Something seems to be off in the rendering. Or the layer transparency (?) is overdone. Is this thread related? Was it fixed? Because I see planes disappear over terrain all the time at close distance, many times in turn fighting.

I have a doubt. When you say that, do you mean visual lock on dots and LOD at long distance? Or does that include close combat / over terrain as well? Because I have been playing online for a few weeks and I have notice that spotting enemies in close combat seems to be a gray area in the discussion. Forgive me if I have missed clear mentions to close range rendering. For the thread and people in general, IMHO multiplayer is rendered unplayable (as a competitive space) without those info tags / labels (don't know how to call them because there are labels online without the info tags). As OnlyforDCS mentioned, I have seen tracers coming out of invisible planes, planes that merge with the terrain and so on. I have observed that you have a good chance to disengage simply going to the deck and grazing the terrain. Yesterday I noticed that people are flying near the ground to spot enemies above the horizon line (when they become visible). It might be coincidence, but I flew an hour without seeing much, and I was not that high. My P-51D was not even con-trailing. Then I went to the deck and I started to see a lot of action with planes coming back and forward in between targets near the deck (the server had some 30 players). In one instance I crossed two Germans in formation, who jumped at me, and I simply grazed the ground and headed home -- I looked back and they continued to circle the area, looking for me. The other day I dove on some tracers that were coming off an invisible plane. I kept on diving because I wanted to observe the rendering layer. Near the ground I saw a thin layer of a plane, almost as the Predator camouflage (the movie). I pulled back but I was already too low and I crashed. Today I was following a friendly Spit at low altitude, but at one point he dove to graze the ground. I could follow his shape just in the dive, but he merged with the ground and disappeared in front of my eyes. I could not find him afterwards. And even against the sky, the planes profile is to gray, shadowy. And this has been my experience in multiplayer. Broken / disconnected sequences of combats and people strangely adapting to the environment / engine. I wonder if these things are being addressed or if they are only working on dots.

Nice, good to know. Thanks.

Thanks, but will the increase of Command Overhead demand more connection (requiring even more band) or once the terrain is loaded it becomes a task for my hardware, not the bandwidth? Because then I am fine. I have an i7-3770K (I can overclock it) and I can upgrade the graphics card. I say this because I have a considerable bandwidth loss as the distance increases. Perhaps I don't feel it with ROF because the game is lighter. From what I recall, in some European servers my download rate would get as low as 4MB (when I had a 30MB connection). Not all of them, but in some of them. In other words, I am not sure if people playing from afar will experience bandwidth bottleneck due to a large number of data having to travel great distances. I'll test DCS with 4XAA or even less to see how it gets.

I have been monitoring my GTX 770 in game (multiplayer) and one thing I noticed. Even when I'm using 1.6 / 1.8GB of VRAM (my card has 2GB), the GPU hovers around 40-70% usage tops. I have all settings on low and 8XAA. And I am having severe frame drops over terrain, as low as 30's. The card remains with 2/3 of usage or less. The game then stutters like crazy. I don't have G-Sync and I use TrackIR, then I need to be above 50fps, most preferably 60fps all the time to don't experience stutter. And I do stay with 60fps away from the ground and clouds. I've seen similar results with ROF, but not that severe and I used to check supersampling. I have frame drops in ROF, especially around clouds, but the card never goes above 60-70%. Nowadays I am using only 8XAA and it runs fine in all servers. Then I wonder if DCS uses just a limited range of the card and exploits clock and raw power more than whole processing (the same as ROF). I ask this because I might as well buy a GTX 1070. Or wait a bit to see if they are going to do a refresh in the 3rd quarter / release some Volta and offer some rebates for the GTX 1060 or 1070. I don't mind waiting a bit, because I won't replace it sometime soon. I have this GTX 770 for 4 years now and I just game with it for ROF, DCS and BOS, and these titles are generally around for several years without needing beefier cards. Do people have severe frame drops and low usage with stronger cards? The other doubt that I have regards the servers. My ping on DCS, even in US servers, is always around 170-200ms. I live in Rio de Janeiro / Brazil and I have a 60MB connection, 3MB upload. Of course Burning Skies is 250+. But I play in a few ROF servers in the US with a 128ms ping (northeast), which I consider not that bad in my case. Is it related somehow to DCS or it has nothing to do with it? I really know little about connections and main servers, but my connection works like butter for ROF in general. I ask these things because I might update the graphics card and still experience high ping, extreme frame drops and stutter. Not to mention that it is not reassuring to be always on that 200ms limit -- when people think that you are going to stutter on-line. In my experience, ping has little to do with stutter on-line, especially if you have a good connection and is on this 120-300ms range. So is DCS more demanding on the internet band -- which then I cannot solve already having a 60MB connection -- or the main problem is my GTX 770? I appreciate any feedback, SeaW0lf.

Cool, I'll try that next time  And I agree, we really need all the help we can get... But the planes are a beauty. I'm really starting to enjoy it.

So right now I'm flying online almost every day and I started to see how spotting really affects 'real life' / multiplayer game play. In a close turn fight, even against clear skies, the planes are rendered with a very thin / pale layer, almost as a late afternoon shadow. Over terrain they blend easily right in front of your eyes. You need to focus hard to don't lose it. And I have seen others go through the same ordeal -- to reset in mid combat and start looking for me -- and this against only one plane. From what I see [or don't see -- pun intended :)], a fix for close quarters rendering / spotting is much more important than dots and such. At least we need to see the enemy once we engage in a close turn fight. I could get used to it, but at the moment [i might change my opinion] I think it is not even healthy for one's eyesight either. I do hope the situation changes with the updates.

Cool, thanks

THanks, and do I have to install this mod or it is included when the mission loads?

I've never been able to use labels on the server. I have labels enable under Options / Game Play. Is it not available on the server or do I need to do something? When I say lables, it means info about the planes on screen and that sticker over the plane. I would rather not use it (never really liked it), but this is almost a necessity in DCS for now. But I don't mind if labels are not available. I just don't want to be at a disadvantage right off the bat otherwise. Thanks a lot for the server by the way. It is good fun.

I know this is old, but there is no level flight on the WWII planes? I'm building some missions to test flight the WWII planes and determine the TAS, but without level flight it will be way more difficult or even not possible. I also use time acceleration in my methodology. I could use IAS, but I rather calculate and rely on time over distance. Level flight seems to be commonly used in single player for various purposes since forever. Did they implement this feature in the last years?

*Edit - sorry, wrong thread. The post is now at the right one: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3116234#post3116234

I just got the Bf 109, so perhaps I'll start testing them. The only difference is that I have to test the planes at full throttle and then at max sustained cruise speed. This is going to double the work, but I find it fun to do. I did similar tests with ROF and it took me a few months, but it was fun. But I need to research on how they work properly at different altitudes.

Hello everybody, I have two modules (P51D and FW 190) since 2014. Never really flew it but a few hours. Lately I'm flying more on DCS due to the latest updates. I got online a few times in the past few weeks and it will take some time to adapt (flew ROF for years), but there are several topics regarding aircraft performance that left me wondering about data. There seems to be no specification of the aircrafts on the website. I would like to know if any forum members conducted tests [in game] on max speed [level flight] and climb rate on the P-51D, the FW 190, BF 109 and Spitfire, and if these values are more or less in accordance to the actual specifications of the aforementioned aircrafts. I am not familiar with WWII planes regarding flight model. So I would like to hear if someone has put these birds through their paces in game and how they fare regarding basic / real life data. I appreciate any feedback. SeaW0lf.

Thanks for the update. With the Normandy map, B-17 and all, it would be nice to see a mature version. The other day I got online again, so I might get hooked. To know that they consider these things and are working on spotting, damage model, a new P-51 version, etc, is good news.
-
+1 I might be wrong, but I think in this day and age multiplayer is the thermometer of a combat flight simulator.
-
That is good to know. Let's hope they unify all the versions soon enough and start to build up from then on.
