  1. Need help with Deploying the Shrike

So I decided to set up an Iron Hand/Sead mission against an SA-6 battery (3 TELs, 1 Radar, I think it's called the 1S91 not sure and a 4 trucks to simulate spare missile carriers). I also added in a Shilka SPAAA (don't know whether it's possible to actually kill it with the Shrike).

Tried at least 12 times: Wait for the tone, make sure target is within Shrike's range, launch a single Shrike and turn to 'beam' the radar.

-10 out of 12 times the 'Beam-Rider' missile finds the beam (or at least it seems to) as it lofts up. 2 times it goes ballistic.

    - Almost every time whether my 'Scooter' is being painted by the radar (threat light on and at times a few missile launches), or not the first missile misses by a few feet (usually it overshoots).

    - I also tried the really close in approach (approach the battery at deck level and pop-up at the last minute and engage) but that's a total failure as the Shrike lofts up and over shoots by a large margin.

    - I have had limited success but only when I launch the 2nd missile.

This is not a bug report. I love the mod and am anxiously awaiting further development. It's just that I'm failing to understand and apply the correct procedure. I've seen one of the dev's older videos in which he engages and kills and an S-400 radar. So the 'Gainful' (I'm assuming) should be easier. :helpsmilie:

  2. That's where I am going wrong mate, I have the switch in the down position but when you say the NWS button on the hotas should be pressed I don't know what you mean. A button on the joytick in game?

Yes, a button on the joystick. This should be mapped on the stick/HOTAS: AG Target Undesignate/NWS/FOV Toggle

With the Anti-skid switch down and the above mentioned button pressed you'll get Hi gain and unpressed you'll get low gain on the steering.

  3. Hi guys, sorry in the options I think there only 3 options for NWS. off, on, on until off or something. I have it mapped where when off its in caster, and when on its NWS (and the anti-skid light is illuminated). The only NWS switch I can see is the one near the gear and flaps indicator. Its has two positions, which when flipped, alternates between caster and nws. I just don't get how you get high grain on. sorry to sound daft.

To get HI gain, the switch needs to be in the down position (NWS) and the NWS button on the HOTAS should be pressed.

  4. nice vid, and good choice of livery!

How do you get the NWS on to super tight for on the carrier? I heard in a video you have to hold down the NWS button, but when i do nothing happens?

Chris, as MARSVINET put it, the Anti-Skid switch should be flicked down to Off or as it says on the panel in the cockpit to NWS. So now pressing the button on the hotas will give you a Hi-gain Nose-wheel steering and lo-gain without the button being pressed.

  5. I plan on purchasing a TrackIR 5 soon - hoping that works better than the FaceTrack which was VERY jittery no matter how I adjusted it.

Yes, good idea. Just do your research whether you want the one with the TrackClip or the TrackClip Pro. The Pro clip I heard a guy in a vid (long time ago) breaks quite often but it has other advantages. I am personally using the normal clip but now the IR camera is prone to over-heating so I rigged up a redundant case fan to blow some air on it.

  6. I regularly used the Kutz for its ski ramp, lovely isn’t it.

Another option is the rather excellent Hermes mod by Joey, which can be easily found using search. My Harrier flight is currently practicing with that.

Yeah it is! I read a long time ago in a book called "Modern Naval Combat" that the ski ramp allows for a slight higher takeoff weight. Is it true?

  7. Nope. The usermade skins, if they seem like there's a ghosting effect of another paint behind the one you're using that is a default USAF, it's because the Sabre went from using SPEC files to RoughMets in the last update. This is.actually really great and kudos to ED for doing it. But the drawback is that if the usermade skins used a custom SPEC file they will need to be updated to use a custom RoughMet. I'm in the process of updating mine but it's a time consuming process. It doesn't just switch over. So For my paints, I'm taking the opportunity to make updates to them while I work through the list. Others would need to do similar to their paints. I have 3 done so.far.

I think this is what you mean:

Too bad I can't use this skin :(
