Guys, pardon the noob question, but since I'm only just beginning my multiplayer journey with the Fishbed I thought I'd ask... I can neither see Alpenwolf's server on the list, nor can I connect using the IP provided in the OP. I'm running a regular release version of the game. Does that mean I'm going to have to install Open Beta to play on this server?

I was about to post the same picture, the Mirage III is just pure pornography. IMHO it's right up there with the Draken as a candidate to the title of the prettiest jet of all time, but that's just me. Quick question - are the late variants of the IIICJ comparable to the MiG-21bis in terms of overall performance and combat effectiveness? I'm wondering if the two will be well balanced against each other, and the specifications certainly seem to suggest so. Iirc the R-60 missile went into service in the mid-70s, so my guess is that for best balance and historical accuracy a Yom Kippur war era scenario would have Shafrir 2-equipped CJs with the Atar 09C engine pitted against 21s with K-13s. In any case the unreliability of these missiles would probably result in most dogfights being resolved with the good old fashioned cannons. Perhaps we could pressure Belsimtek into modifying their Fishbed into an earlier variant like the MF... :helpsmilie: I can't wait for this to be implemented, the potential of this module is tremendous. You forgot about the MiG-27. I'd prefer that (ideally the K) or the Su-24M over just about anything that isn't a MiG-23MLD or the MiG-29M (early).

Everyone must've seen it by now... Not a good looking helicopter by any means. Not that the original Hind is a helicopter beauty pageant material, but the Super Hind is just revolting. As for its technical aspects, we know too little about it to even mention it to the devs.

I don't think there's been any indication as to which version was going to be made, if any. Both the V and the P would IMHO be likely candidates, the D model with its antiquated ATGMs would certainly be less effective than either one of them. As much as I would love to fly a late variant like the VP (gotta love that chin-mounted 23mm) I doubt we're going to get it, only 25 or so were made before production ceased. I would gladly accept the Mi-24P as a substitute though. ;)

True. I beg to differ. If we push for the inclusion of a project which was internally called by MiG izdeliye 9.15, that is the early MiG-29M that was proposed to the VVS in the mid '90s and rejected due to a lack of funds, I think we have a fighting chance. Note that this is a plane which has a host of upgrades compared to the 9.13S we have in the game, but one which is an evolutionary development rather than an entirely new aircraft based on an older airframe. The 9.15 project began in mid '80s, I doubt Russian red tape goes that far. Agreed. According to RIA Novosti the BM upgrade was contracted in 2009, which makes it way too modern for ED to include. +1. While the MiG-29M is IMHO the best option for newer Soviet fighters I would still welcome the MLA/MLD with gratitude.

That's the only possible reason. Most aviation fanatics in the Western world are captivated by American aircraft like the F-14. Soviet jet fans (myself included) are a minority. This is particularly true among the younger generations (<26yo).

I like your way of thinking. Some of the aircraft that I would like to see in DCS have been retired from active service in Russia in the early 1990s, and most of them employ technology that is either on a similar level to what we have or inferior. In that context there are plenty of planes ripe for the taking - take the late model MiG-23 (MLA, MLD), MiG-27 (D/M, K) Su-17M4 and Su-24M for example.

I recently installed 1.5 beta standalone. This was a fresh, clean install. I added it to my Steam library to get the Steam overlay while in game, but for some reason whenever I launch the game via Steam it crashes almost as soon as the black opening screen with the DCS logo shows up. The game runs just fine if I launch it normally via shortcut or through the Start Menu. Here's the error log: Lenovo Y580 laptop Win7 Home Premium 64bit Intel i7-3630QM 2,4GHz 16GB RAM DDR3 GeForce GTX660M I'm going to keep playing it normally just like I always did, but I'd really like to have the added Steam functionality. Not having to minimise every time someone leaves a message would be a blessing for me.

Agreed on both accounts. I'm not really a fan of implementing cruise missiles in online sims, but that would certainly make for some fun gameplay in single player mode. The Su-24M could also give impetus to the inclusion of the F-111, which would make things even more interesting. My favourite ground pounder is still the MiG-27K though, the combination of advanced Soviet technology, supersonic performance and the sheer beauty of the damn thing is irresistible. I like the Su-17/22, though most of my sentiment for it stems from its long service history with the Polish Air Force. Having said that, the Red fighters could use some spit and polish... I hope the 9.13S gets an improved FM soon, just like the Flanker did some time ago.

True, but this is also why I thought the two missiles shared their guidance system. I thought this provided the Kh-29T with a similar datalink as the Kh-59 but I read too much into it, hence my mistake. Thanks for the clarification.

I was referring to the TV-guided version of the Kh-59 which was intended to use the same basic seeker head and datalink as the Kh-29T, obviously the anti-radiation Kh-58 is a different kettle of fish altogether. Apologies for that. Source 1 Source 2 I believe you're right about the Kh-29T's guidance in the Su-22. I'm still unsure how all this works, but my brain is fried at the moment so I can't take in any more information. :P I need a nap.
