  1. I wouldn't be surprised if many server admins decided to add the F1 to Redfor to fly alongside MiGs. IMHO it would make historical sense - the Iraqi Air Force used both types concurrently during the Iran-Iraq war.
  2. Yeah, a late J-7 would be a solid choice (and one I'd be very much in favour of). I've written about this before so I'll just quote my most recent post on the subject:

Agreed, though if I were a DCS dev I'd go for a late Chengdu J-7 variant. It's different enough from the bis for people not to call it just another MiG-21 variant, it was widely exported so it fits a number of existing maps (Syria, Persian Gulf), it has extensive armament options (those two 30 mm cannons!), it'd pander to the lucrative Chinese market and capitalise on the surge in interest Chinese aircraft have enjoyed since the release of the JF-17... And, depending on the variant, it fits Cold War-style scenarios perfectly.
  4. Houston, we have a problem - server is down, I repeat, server is down!

It's been brought up before, so I'll be brief. The LanceR is based on the MiG-21MF, not the bis we have in the game. It would require significant rework to make it work in a realistic fashion. The Indian Bison modification (aka MiG-21-93 tailored to India's needs) would IMHO be more feasible, but again, it would require non-trivial amount of work to function properly. Don't get me wrong, as a Fishbed fan I'd love nothing more than to see those upgraded variants make it into the game (especially the Bison, which can carry the R-73 and R-77). However, M3's basket seems rather full right now. They're focusing on the F4U-1 and F-8 Crusader, so I don't think they can spare the time or the effort to make a 21st century MiG-21 a reality... At least not yet. IMHO if it were to be done it'd have to come as an expansion pack for the existing module (think A-10C II), though that's just my wishful thinking.
  6. Elmo, thank you for this much-needed update. Glad to learn that the team is focusing on ironing out the kinks in existing modules rather than making new ones. A few questions: 1. Which module of the ones that Razbam is currently working on is going to be released first? 2. The MiG-23 was first teased in June 2018. It's been more than two years and now we're being informed that work is only just starting on the cockpit. Why? 3. Why is the work on the Lightning progressing so much more quickly than on the MiG-23?
  7. Excellent, looking forward to it. If you need a tester then please let me know.
  8. I hope that alternative involves enforcing the use of SRS. Flying without comms on your server is meaningless.
  9. Apologies for misunderstanding your intentions, I judged your claim based on the fact you posted this in the bug reports sub-forum. I'm glad you didn't take my post the wrong way. As for verifying your assertions, I'd start with a look through the official MiG-21bis flight manual (they're out there if you know where to look, I don't want to post links here for the fear of breaking forum rules) as well as test pilot reports from US evaluations of the type. Note that most of the currently available declassified US sources cover the MiG-21F and its later Chinese derivatives. Although similar in overall layout and design, the bis has a different enough airframe and engine that its handling shows a slightly different picture compared to the F-13. Unfortunately for your claim most (if not all) of the other users who posted above appear to have these bases well and truly covered. That doesn't mean you can't verify what they're trying to explain. My suggestion would be to get into a Quick Start mission or your own customs scenario with all the relevant flight parameters written down and then simply test them repeatably until you get a clearer picture. Note your results and show them here so others can verify them. If there are any significant abnormalities then you'll be able to pick them up easily.
  10. Thank you Elmo, looking forward to it.
  11. @Robin885, please don't take it the wrong way, but "I believe" and "I'm fairly certain" doesn't constitute a valid complaint. They are just weasel words to justify your belief, but with no actual proof behind it. As someone who says that the MiG-21 is not behaving correctly at high angles of attack your job now is to find the necessary documentation to prove your assertions and test it out until you get verifiable and repeatable results. Only once you complete this step should you consider filing a bug report to the devs. Unless you find some legitimate flight test documents and/or pilot reports to base your assertions on and then compare them to the in-game flight characteristics of the MiG-21 then we have little to discuss. To paraphrase a certain English writer, "what may be asserted without evidence, may be dismissed without evidence". Please don't take it as an ad personam attack, I'm merely trying to remind you that the burden of proof lies with you, not us or the devs.
  12. The map was nearly unplayable for me until I changed the terrain textures to "low" and reduced tree visibility to 50%. It looks much worse this way, but that's just about the only thing that can get my RAM usage to below 99% (I have 16 GB of DDR4, need to upgrade to 32 GB).
  13. I love these @Apok, thanks for posting them. @OverStratos, @RAZBAM_ELMO, having seen the recent batch of Lightning pictures on your FB makes me think that its 3d model is further along than that of the MiG (though I'd like to be wrong). There's also talk of the F-15E supposedly coming next year, though I have a hard time believing these rumours. Is there any chance you could give us a rough roadmap of planned module releases? IMHO clarifying the situation would be beneficial for both devs and fans alike.
  14. Agreed. Luckily changing the West German skin back into a Best German one shouldn't be too difficult.
  15. What's wrong with a wildcard entry into a list of well-established 1944 favourites? It's not like Normandy is the only WW2 map we're ever going to get. Besides, just like @Rudel_chw mentioned, this might take years to materialise. Plenty of things can change between now and then.
  16. Oh man, this is so glorious... We really need a Red striker in game. Hope your mod turns into a full-blown module.
  17. Just so everyone knows what Hunter Joker is referring to: https://stormbirds.blog/2020/10/23/la-7-teased-by-octopusg/ Couldn't agree more with your sentiment, a late-war Soviet prop is going to be an instant purchase for me. I really hope it's for DCS. Based on what fellow players have been saying about the I-16 and the rave reviews it got I'm not worried about the quality of the eventual module, not in the slightest.
  18. Excellent! If you need an instructor in the 21 then I'd be happy to help. It'll be interesting to see how an F-5 pilot reacts to the Fishbed's numerous quirks. :joystick:
  19. You, Sir, get a like. Excellent video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Tonight was really fun, we gave the Blues a hard time. Abu Dhabi was fast and furious, while Open Range was just plain excellent. Oh and by the way, excellent work Legion, you did really well for a first-time GCI.
  20. This was the first time I tried the mission, it went great! My buddy Erhardt and I flew out of King Hussein AB right at the start. Erhardt bagged a Viper with an R-60M hit. Shortly afterwards another F-16 drove into the ground while chasing yours truly. We RTB'd with no issues, but in the meantime my PC started playing up. Turns out Syria eats so much RAM my PC kept giving me fps drops (I have 16 GB of DDR4), so much so that my plane was all over the place and my wingman almost crashed into me. After an hour of troubleshooting, repairing, cleaning up mods, then repairing again to pass the integrity check I went up to find Magic going Sunset. This was a huge loss, as Nellus was doing a stellar job directing us towards lone enemy aircraft, setting up traps from multiple directions and drawing Blue fighters into Red SAM range. Not long afterwards I checked the scoreboard to find that Blue had a 2x numerical advantage... After I was turned into meat in an Eagle sandwich I've decided to call it a day. Still, it was a really fun outing. Shame about the low number of participants, was hoping these weekday missions would become a regular occurence (I'm away on weekends, so DCS is a no-go then). Many thanks for holding this on a Wednesday. I hope I'll be able to join you guys on Saturdays, this event is far too much fun to miss out on.
  21. No longer true, at least not since the most recent Fishbed rework. You can get tone on an afterburning F-5 that is approaching you head-on, but even assuming you launch the missile at the earliest possible moment it won't connect. This is why Alpen reinstated the R-60 in his missions but deliberately left out the R-60M, which does retain limited all-aspect capability. This goes in line with mission rules on CW - no all-aspect IR missiles are allowed.
