Did you type -red/-blue to join a coalition first? If so, did you try to spawn at a base captured by your forces, or was it hostile/neutral?

    Thanks,

Joined blue coalition as per the new DCS log in select option for blue/red coalition, so did not type anything in anywhere.  Will try again and look for a second option somewhere to type in to join blue.

  2. Tried to join with a friend yesterday to fly helicopters, but could not select an aircraft or get into the cockpit.  Perhaps we have both missed something, or there may be a bug.  Might try again next week.

Funnily enough, I was doing some reading on Corsairs and this thread popped up. I'm a bit late to the party but from what I've been told by Corsair pilots I've talked to, a lot of the younger pilots would get into trouble in the Corsair because they would either get into a situation where they would panic or simply forgot their training (perhaps didn't receive adequate training) and jam the throttle to max which due to a mixture of the torque produced by the engine and the large prop would cause essentially cause an uncommanded roll/bank to the left which would cause the plane to roll onto it's back, at low altitude that's not a recoverable situation unfortunately. There was a good article by the Smithsonian about this very topic that came out a few years ago, I'll try to find it.

Welp, that took all of 2 minutes.

Thanks.  Looks like the article is covering the low and slow on landing issue re sudden increase in power.  Very dangerous.  Hard to control natural instincts in times of stress.

Problem was between the stick and the seat. I had the steer switch set to "unlock" instead of "steer."

On another note, is the central trimmer messed up for anyone else? Before the update, pressing trim and releasing physical controls would keep the virtual controls in the desired position, but now the virtual controls become centered as well. Also on the controls indicator. Trim reset also doesn't appear to do anything anymore.

Trim reset not working properly, but is being worked on.  See thread:

No, it's not the way. If you want to be visible all the time drop some flares or play with labels with your friends. DCS is not only about dogfighting and some rely on being not very visible - esp. helis, low strikers and ground units - but even in knife fight keeping tally is a skill and necessity, not a given.

Very much this.  Well said draconus.  When I am flying tactically on MP using terrain cover to try and mask my helicopter low level in the normal way, similar to real life, it is not much fun knowing I am completely wasting my time and standing out like an alien craft as a large black square or cube to any human adversary on the hunt for an easy victory.

In short, I do not want to stand out like the proverbial dogs dangly bits!

P.S.  I don't want to see anyone else and their dangly bits either, lol.

  6. Well said.  I won't add my list, but there are so many basic things that just seem to get overlooked or not bothered with.  Some perhaps with good reason, but as a customer I find that it is getting harder to feel good about things.

Things feel more disjointed than joined up.

I very much would like a choice but I don't care what others will choose. I just want realistic visibility like I had in 2.9.7.

I appreciate what you are saying, but I should add that my perspective is as a keen participant on MP servers for this Digital Combat Sim.  Combat is competitive and I enjoy competition with other human pilots on-line.  The current visuals are not conducive.

It's not exploit or cheat if it's available for everyone.

So all must use exploit/cheat, even if for them them the mad visuals destroy immersion and look alien, or be at a disadvantage.  Not much of a choice.

We don't seem to get this with other combat flight simulations.

Big thank you Zebra1-1.  🙂  I am very grateful for your reply.  That appears to have worked.  Seems like I have to do that all the time now.  Strange indeed.

Do you even know/understand how the AI works in either helicopter?

In the DCS Huey, right now, I can press a binding, and the dude in the left seat will fly the Huey straight and level until I press it again. I can press another binding and he will Orbit, press another binding and he will Attitude Hold. The downside to these modes is that you can't change anything with joystick inputs, when you set the mode, it's held at that until you disable it.

    image.png

I hate to pop your precious realism bubble, but the lie you live isn't true. If you don't like it, don't use it.

The BOB feature in the Chinook allows the player to control the AI with simple joystick inputs, while the player is performing the duties of the Flight Engineer. Just like in real life, the Flight Engineer directs the pilot over the load, or during other 95-Aft duties.

The BOB AI is superior to the AI ALREADY INCLUDED in the Huey that you didn't even know existed.

OMG!  LOL!  You are right, I didn't even now this rubbish existed for the Huey.  Image result for Clip Art Shock-Horror  DCS Huey pilots have gone down in my estimation, lol.

Sacrilege.  :no_sad:  Hate this idea.   Keep the Huey as it should be.  :joystick:  Don't spoil such an iconic helicopter.  :protest:  Keep it real as possible.

oh man, this is a bummer. guess i should have looked this up before i bought it. i had just assumed it would have ffb like all the other helo modules. I was quite surprised when I finally fired up the bird for the first time and tried to take off: dead fish stick. i don't even think it's flyable now.

has anyone else figured out a workaround for FFB2? otherwise she's unfortunately going to gather mothballs in the hanger 😞

Yes, very much agree.  I use FFB2 and am also very disappointed with dead stick (no life at all) and subsequently dead aircraft due to no FFB with this module.  I am very much hoping the FFB is still WIP, but the lack of clarification regarding eventual FFB is somewhat frustrating to say the least.  For me, the lack of communication on this issue leaves a lot to be desired.

So you know where to find the infos but you want them to be somewhere else? Makes no sense.

A lot of stuff runs via Discord. Just get used to it.

I can't tick to agree to their (Discord) terms and conditions.  Great for those who can.  Discord security not so good.

  15. For the steering knob I use the paddle (rudder) lever on my Thrustmaster TWCS throttle as it is spring loaded to the centre and works great.

I have Crosswind rudder pedals, so I don't need to use the throttle paddle as a rudder and it is free to bind as the steering knob.

Works very well if you have a Thrustmaster TWCS throttle.

  16. Hi folks,

I can't find any up to date information about the new Heatblur DCS Cold War server on the Heatblur Simulations web site home page.

I can't find any up to date information on the DCS forum either.

Also, I can't find out any information with a google search either (no videos or other info).

Can anyone please point me in the direction of any information about this server?

I think the server is the same one that Enigma used to run which I enjoyed very much.  I tried to fly the Huey on the Heatblur Cold War Server but things seem to have changed somewhat and in the end I could not fly due to no rearm or refuel.  I would like to try and understand how this server works now, but no joy so far.

Please don't tell me Discord is the only place for information because I don't do Discord.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Can't use sim-shaker equipment without getting complaints from the apartment downstairs. Nor the space for a giant racing rig in a 30sqm living space. Solutions like thes are only valid for detached home owners.

    Hi Nealius,

Sorry if my links might have been confusing, but I am not talking about a giant racing rig and definitely not a base-shaker.  All I am talking about is a cushion for your seat that has 8 small electric motors (4 in the bottom and 4 at the back).  They make very little noise and should be apartment friendly.
