Hi, Thanks for evaluating my situation. As to my graphics, I have a single Samsung 43 inch TV/monitor that will run at 30 Hz. In addition, I have the Oculus Rift VR device attached. Both plug in via HDMI cables.......my 1081Ti has two HDMI ports. As per Flappie's suggestion, I updated my video driver from 388.59 to 390.77, which as of a few days ago, was the most recent version. My screen setup is 4K 3840 x 2160. So I will try DDU removal tool and re-install to see if that will help. BTW - should I setup Nvidia Inspector for DCS? Any other suggestions, I have no idea as to what to do next? Up until recently, DCS ran really well on my system............both 2D and VR. I also have P3D v4.1 running well and all I fly is VR..........no issues with P3D. This is a weird issue, unlike anything I have ever experienced before! Bill Clark

Bignewy & Flappie, I'm concerned about my last log file as I had to intervene because it came up in VR mode. So I was doing CTL-ALT-DEL to gain control of the system, and may have altered my systems response. So attached are two files, a new virgin log file and an image of the HWMonitor results based on a new repair update. I feel more comfortable when you evaluate the new log file, Bill dcs.txt

Flappie, I just happened to have the latest HWMonitor on my desktop. I ran it but I don't see the section "tensions min/max?" Bill Clark

Flappie, Here is the attached log file.............I had to convert to a .txt format for it to be accepted. If this doesn't give you what you need I will do a clean "repair." Bill Clark dcs.txt

Flappie, Do you want it as an attached file or pasted into the "Quick Reply" window? Bill Clark

Flappie, Ok, now I understand it was not a standard update. Do you want me to perform another "fresh" repair operation after deleting the DCS.Openbeta file in the Saved Games section so I can get you what you want? Thanks for Your Help, Bill Clark

EDIT - It was suggested that I update the title by moderator. After more thoughts about Update 5, which fixed the missing buildings in Las Vegas, I remember DCS working after update 5. However, it was after the minor update 6, or whatever it was, as it appeared to be just a minor update, is when I consistently started to see 100% failure. In fact, if I start on the ground and do nothing, it will eventually lockup and crash. As you look thru this thread, I have gone thru a "clean" and "repair" several times. I did update my video driver from 388.59 to the latest 391.35, but to no avail. I also fly P3D V4.1 with a ton of planes and complex scenery, including the PMDG aircraft in both VR and 2D, and it works great, no issues. In all the years of flying DCS, I have never experienced an issue like this! Bill Clark

Flappie, Prior to these latest updates I had a very stable DCS system flying both in VR and 2D. Something definitely changed. I checked the first link and made sure I did these two items: -Power Management --> Prefer Maximum Performance -Virtual Reality Pre-Rendered Frames --> 1 I did update to the latest WHQL driver 391.35, and the problem still exists. What really bothers me is that I had a solid working system before......and now it crashes 100% of the time in a few minutes? Bill Clark

Flappie, Resetting the "Manage 3D Settings" did not fix the issue. I am currently running Nvidia 388.59 drivers on a Gigabyte 1080TI graphics card. The latest WHQL Nvidia driver is 391.35. However, sometimes the latest driver is not the best for a particular sim. What version do you recommend? By the way, up until these latest updates 5 & 6, I have not had any issues with DCS. Hi Bignewy, I followed your instructions, changed the name of file DCS openbeta, did the clean and repair. Of course it crashed again, but here is the attached log file. Bill Clark dcs.log-20180405-234612.zip

Last Item, I did the following recommended step: Rename your dcs / dcs.openbeta folder in saved games ( keep it as a backup ) And it still freezes and crashes. I will have await a response from DCS or a fix. I can no longer fly DCS. Bill Clark

Hi, I ran the dcs_updater.exe repair option and after a few brief minutes it crashed......so freezing and crashing is still an issue. I was able to click ok and permit the sending of an automated message back to the development team. Bill Clark Bill Clak

Hi All 1) Yesterday, when I was updating my HOTAS profile, I had setup a mission with an A/C on the runway. I opened the “Adjust Controls” section to look up keypresses as I updated my profile. However, after a bit of time, I noticed that DCS would freeze up and I would have to perform a Control Alt Delete. This was very repeatable. 2) Today, when I launched DCS, I noticed a small update was executed…..I assume it is update 6, but is not yet mentioned on the DCS website? After the update, I launched DCS and flew a number of different A/C, and the sim would freeze while in flight, and the only way to get out was wait until the data recovery tool would request to send data back to the DCS development team, or do a CTL-ALT-DEL. I also noticed that if I left the A/C sitting on the runway long enough, it would also freeze. This happened in both 2D mode, or when flying VR. The sim is now basically un-flyable. 3) Up until yesterday, I had experienced anything like this? EDIT - It was suggested that I update the title by moderator. After more thoughts about Update 5, which fixed the missing buildings in Las Vegas, I remember DCS working after update 5. Solved the Problem with Zoom, thanks to help from a friend: What I was doing wrong is pressing buttons on my joystick that were generating the following keypresses: Button X = LCTL + z which is the default keypress combination of two characters that activates VR zoom. Note: This is a Zoom feature found in the UI Layer under options on the home page. Button Y = HOME which is the default keypress of a single character for firing the guns (40mm for A-10C) The issue, when the keyboard, or a “programmable joystick” is used, if more than 3 keypresses are sent simultaneously , it just does not work, when you add up the following three characters, (LCTL + z + HOME). However, if I replace the default VR Zoom with the lowercase tilde key `, then DCS will effectively permit both the zoom feature and firing the guns to simultaneously work, because DCS will accept two characters, (` + HOME). I tested this with other A/C and now zoom + guns works perfectly. Bill Clark

muehlema, I have the Oculus and fly in VR almost 100% of time. The Vive Pro may be better, but VR technology has a serious weakness with resolution, which makes combat a lot more difficult. The zoom feature is an aid that DCS felt necessary to help users overcome this shortfall. A friend of mine has VR and he can use the zoom feature where I cannot. I tried the P-51 and the F-86 and they both have the same issue as the A-10C. Zoom works on my friends system using Oculus, but does not on mine. I'm hoping there is a setting I'm overlooking that may fix this issue? Bill

One of the big issues when flying in DCS with VR, is seeing the targets because of limited resolution. When going after ground targets, they are hard to see in 2D mode, let alone in VR mode. To help my situation, I setup zoom as a toggle. For example, by pressing a button on the Joystick, zoom is activated and remains in zoom mode, until I toggle the button again, when it returns to normal. Unfortunately, when zoomed out, DCS will not let the trigger fire the guns until you un-zoom. Which is unfortunate, because you can more easily see where the targets are in zoom. The toggle feature is a better mode in spite of this limitation because you can switch back to normal viewing mode prior to pulling the trigger. I have to assume this will prevent any other types of weapons release when in zoom mode? Is this something the team could take a look at? Bill Clark

Cougar HOTAS DX Commands No Longer work
Bingo41 replied to Bingo41's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Roland, Not sure what TQS stands for, but go ahead and explain how to setup throttle control? Bill Clark -
I just recently picked up the F-5 and after setting up a profile in my Cougar HOTAS, I did some practice landings to get familiar with this A/C. Like others in this thread, I find this plane very difficult to handle during roll-out. The best way to land successfully is to deploy the chute first. Then wait until the A/C has slowed down to a slow speed before employing the wheel brakes. Once you are very slow, then it is safe to enable nose steering. If you enable nose steering too early, it is so sensitive I usually end up in a skid. Attempting to land the plane without the chute is near impossible for me as it is easy to get into a skid and end up sliding sideways or backwards. I see this A/C (nothing in the full manual) does not appear to have an "Anti-Skid" brake system, so it seems like the wheels are locked up when ever the brakes are used? Bill Clark

Cougar HOTAS DX Commands No Longer work
Bingo41 replied to Bingo41's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Problem Solved. I discovered that the DXxx commands can be added when selecting HOTAS under "Adjust Controls" and highlight a command "Action" choice under the Thrustmaster HOTAS column. Click on ADD, and then under Key/Button, select, Joy_BTN24, for example. Then click OK. Whew, I was worried about this issue! Bill Clark -
Hi All, I have the Cougar HOTAS using Foxy software. When I first installed the Cougar on my new clean install Win 10 system, I was able to use a profile that sent DX commands to the DCS A-10C, rather than keypress commands like LCTL B for example. However, these DX commands no longer work after installing the Win 10 Anniversary update. Is there something I need to do to enable the DXxx feature in either the HOTAS, DCS World, or the A-10C? Any help would be welcome. Bill Clark
