Very cool, did you figure out the square on top of the helmet? It gets an off alignment when I use it

I suppose you are talking about the velcro ?

This radar clip is really valuable, not just in showcasing the correct appearance of the clutter, but also functionality. For example - the elevation bar is clearly indicating a 2-bar scan, while ours remains fixed, even for the 5-, 10-, and 20-mile ranges where it should be operating in 3-degree 2-bar scan.

I am a bit confused by the lock though - prior to acquisition, the return doesn't seem to be within the range gate, rather it's on the horizon bar where the aim symbol then appears when locked? (Could also just be something to do with the FAIL indication)

On this clip it looks a little bit different. I don't why there is a difference though...

It all comes from this documentary by the way, which you'll surely enjoy if you like the F-5 😃. You can also download it to watch it in HD.

Expecting a total radar rework is perhaps a bit much. But they could have tweaked textures and lua values to get something more realistic looking. Same with the tracers and cannon dispersion.

Agreed ! It should look like this :

I tried to simulate that by modifying textures a few years ago but never got a satisfying result...

  4. Thank you all for the feedbacks !

I've been in the military lately in the Swiss air force officier school. We just finished the mountain course this week. Because of that I haven't had much time for DCS unfortunately... I will have a month off in december so I'll try to correct the liveries then. If I forget don't hesitate to remind me here.

    cheers !

  5. Hi,

i think it'd be cool if the option "Solo flight" would also hide the rear pilot model when checked, as is the case with the L-39 for example.

I've tried to force argument 472 to 0.5 in the description.lua but it gets reset when the mission is launched.

I also take the opportunity to say that I would also love to be able to put empty pylons, like it's possible with the Hornet for example.

other than that, This plane is an absolute joy to fly ! 👌

To answer some of the questions / request regarding more SAAF liveries, I'm not completely closed to the idea but I don't think it will be very soon. I don't really plan to make liveries, I just go for the one I desire at a certain moment. I want to keep it a hobby 🙂

  7. Hi,

While searching for reference for another livery, I stumbled across an image series of a very special Mustang. The photographs were taken in Geneva in the 1980's and showed a P-51 sporting different nosearts on each side : "Candyman" on the right, "Moose" on the left. More interestingly though, it was written "Pilot Stephen Grey" on the left side of the cockpit and "Crew Chief J-P Sudan" on the right.

As you may know, Sir Stephen Grey is none other than the father of Nick, the CEO and founder of Eagle Dynamics. The P-51 on the photo was actually the very first warbird of the Fighter Collection, when it was founded in Geneva. On can argue that DCS might have never existed without if Stephen Grey had not bought this airplane.

The crew chief, Jean-Pierre Sudan, was a towplane pilot at my gliding club until recently, yet I never knew he'd worked for Stephen Grey, nor that he'd flown the Wildcat ! He is a very modest guy and never talks about that time. He's also an outstanding pilot !

Learning about all this, I knew I just had to bring this plane to DCS. Since I have recently had some experience plaxing with the textures of the pilot's face in DCS, I also tried to make the pilot look as close as possible to Sir Grey (I hope I did a good enough job of it 😬)

Enough blabla, here are some WIP shots :
