    1. there's just more lift & more predictability right with the wings forward...
    2. The biggest thing against the JF17 was that I was able to get my nose around in the 1 circle so much faster than when I'm doing .8-.9 mach with the wings swept all the way back

    1. Also more drag. Depending on circumstances maybe even up to 25-30% more.
    2. Why are you at mach 0.9 if you plan is to go one circle?

There were some very slow parts but usually it is dynamic.

Thx for the tests but it is B in the BFM vs Jeff mission I tested.

Now that I gave it another 4 fights (2 with wings on auto, 2 with emergency wing sweep set to 22) I take back my stance that it gives an advantage and I think it was coincidence.

Ah i see, i will give the B a try as well, though L/D should still be the same

No data, sorry. It was like that: Marianas BFM vs Jeff w/Auto - hard. W/Man. 22deg. - easy 🙂

It could be the handling. She is much more predictable when the wings don't move.
This is just a blitz and very precisely measured check. Data from tacview. A huge mountain of salt, only 3 passes per break point, so not that pedantic:

Sustained turns, F-14A 54000lbs GW, 500-1000ft, airspeed in TAS

    wings auto:
    330 - 5.1g
    350 - 5.3g
    400 - 6.3g
    450 - 6.4g
    500 - 8.3g

    wings forward:
    330 -5.0g
    350 -5.4g
    400 -6.0g
    450 -6.0g
    500 -7.4g

Hardly any difference 300-350 and slight drop above that. The A does seam to be overpowered above 450 so it may be distorting my measures. I don't have time for a systematic check though 😕
Did you fight the JF-17 very slow?

For the short tests I did it does make a big difference in BFM and I'd also like to know why it works in DCS F-14 and if it did so IRL.

What STR values did you get in comparison to AUTO?

What wings forward should do is get max the lift available to you per mach, for the price of increased induced drag. So you CLmax curve should be a bit better above mach 0.55 or so (depending on altitude) but your Ps should suffer. Never ran the tests in DCS myself, but the L/D calculations based on the data available to me imply it.

To the OP, listen to @Spurts, he knows what he's talking about. GS is probably the least proficient  F-14 driver i've seen on youtube and the least well informed one, so take everything he mentions on his channel with a huge grain of salt.

    • Updated AOA buffet

Yikes! Will we have to relearn to read to buffet in order to figure out what AoA are we at?

    • Fine tuned TF30 performance - we're going to apply the same tuning deltas from the F110 to the TF30 in the meantime which should get it pretty close

Should the A be supersonic at altitude and with stores now?

P.S. Thanks for the heads up, this has to be my number 1 most anticipated upgrade since release!

On the contrary, I usually try to use a 2/2/2 load out and use Phoenixes >30 miles, and sparrows >10 if anything is left! Though my success rate has to be less than half with the sparrows

Ooh nice! Similar to what i usually do, 4x2x2 or 2x3x2 with the tanks added of course. My success rate is hard to estimate though, as the missiles changed often in last 2 years. At the best of times, i'd say slightly better then 50%, even when the first one is fired as a deterrent. For well timed shots, fired inside best parameters even up to 70-75%. At worst, especially before i disabled the Jester auto P-STT option, it was abysmal, something like 20-25%.

They seam rather bad down low, like south of 5000ft, when they turn into a WVR missile essentially. Angels 15 and above they can be useful for 10+ NM shots, which fills the Phoenix - Sidewinder gap nicely 🙂

Can you explain how you use it? Particularly considering loiter and cruise (max range?) are two different performance conditions.

I don't pay for the fuel, so pedantic isn't the way to go (for me). 😄
Roughly speaking though, when loitering i try to keep the FF in the middle of the lower strip and when cruising, either at the upper end or slightly above it, depending on the altitude. Flew 3-4 sorties over the Caucasus mountains this way and still landed with plenty of fuel left 🙂

Not quite scientific, i know, but hey, it works for shooting bad guys!

What would happen in the past was the values for HBs parallel Sparrow were updated to reflect changes made to EDs Sparrow. HBs Sparrow is being removed from the game next update because it's no longer needed: they were able to fix the reason the copy was necessary. Starting then all aircraft will be using the ED Sparrows.

    That's a welcome news indeed!

Does it mean F-14A and B are too heavy right now in pylon-less configurations, like 4 Sparrows between engines or clean? Or too light in Phoenix and pylons configuration?

That's what we were trying to establish 🙂

  10. Happened to me for the first time this weekend. I guess i don't crash that often (without being shot down previously), i was dogfighting a Viper on the Nevada map, realized i was about to kiss the desert, pulled hard, got my nose high and heard the aircraft screeching. And for a moment i thought i made it. Then the screeching sound repeated it self.....over and over again i was stuck with the same view. Then i realized DCS has crashed 😕 and i had to terminate the process manually.

Haven't had the time to jump in,

    I've watched a few tutorials.

But for those that have learned the F14, what are your tips to go about learning it?

I'm half decent at the F16 systems.

First and foremost, as you are new in it, avoid negative learning habits. My first tip to enforce positive learning would be:
    1. NO CURVES on your stick. Especially not in the pitch. Depending on individual preferences, this might slow you learning curve a bit at first, especially for fine precision, but trust me, it's worth it in the end.
    2. Explore and fully develop your muscle memory for the core of the envelope. Try to master basic aerobatics before going into tactical scenarios. Once you can confidently fly the plane up to 20 units of alpha, start learning the weapons and sensor systems. No need to venture to the extremes yet. Your primary goal should be turn coordination, angle of attack management, rolling under g's and rolling under high alpha and if you chose to go for the F-14A, engine, or better said, throttle management. I would say trim as well, but you seam to have that covered already (from that other post).

But the point is that rails and adapters are very much quick-change items and there’s no reason based in realism to include them in basic empty weight.

Ah, i just thought HB may have decided to keep the on at all times if this was considered standard practice and thus simplify things weight and drag wise.
