Could someone help me understand the pitch trim and the autopilot of the F-18C? I'm reading the "Pitch and roll trim switch" section in the manual (page 73) and it said that:
The FCS will auto trim to 1G when in AUTO flap mode.
Disengaging the autopilot in a level 2G, 60° bank angle turn will leave the stick trimmed for 2G.
Re-engaging either Altitude Hold or Attitude Hold with wings level should reset the trim back to 1G.
However, after testing this, I found that it's not working that way, these are the scenarios:
I engaged the Baro Altitude autopilot mode and bank it near 60 degrees, maintian a 1.9G turn, after disengage the AP using the paddle switch, the pitch trim returns to maintain a 1G load instead of 2G like the manual said.
I used the pitch trim switch to either push or pull the nose (1.2G or 0.8G), then engaged the Baro Altitude or Attitude autopilot, after it's stable at 1G, disengaged the autopilot and the pitch trim doesn't reset to maintain 1G load like the manual.
Both scenarios have the flap in AUTO mode. I also read somewhere that flipping the flap out of and then back to AUTO mode should also reset the pitch trim, but no joy either.
Is there something I misunderstand from the manual or something else I miss? Happy to include the track file if needed.
