EDIT: It's working now. Apparently keep trying over and over.

  2. Actually it just hit me, when we downloaded one of the patches a week ago or so it was extremely slow. But when cancelling it, it gave you the option to download through HTTP. Is that the same here?

    EDIT:

After the 2gig download then it's another 24.5gb for the map. Might have to call in sick for the week ;)

    I forgot about that

  3. Sadly, I seriously doubt we will see any E- variants of any aircraft in DCS. Electronic warfare is heavily dependent on secrecy and thus there is not enough information out there to realistically reproduce it.

It would also require radar to be accurately simulated so that the requisite jamming techniques could be simulated.

It would be cool to have, but I won't hold my breath, knowing the challenges involved.

I think you're right. But on the bright side, there are still so many planes I would like to see before that, such as the F-16, F-18, F-15E, F-5, Mig-23, Mig-27, Su-24.... I could go on forever :D

A-6 Intruder would be awesome. But I'm already happy someone is working on the A-7 Corsair II. Not the same thing, but equally as impressive and has a similar role.

  4. I believe the most interesting maps would be

    1. Vietnam

    2. Korea

    3. Falklands

    4. Afghanistan

    5. Pacific Islands WW2

Getting a little bored in the black see with its drab colours!

Vietnam and Korea would be nice. Afghanistan could also be very interesting.

But Falklands and Pacific islands? The lack of airbases and long distances between some islands is far from ideal. If you really want islands, and lots of them with some mainland perhaps the Aegean sea would be better suited.

Personally i think the English Channel could be very interesting.

For a true East vs West scenario i would suggest the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Southern Finland + Gulf and Russia).

    Or perhaps the Suez Canal?

  5. Nope, Wags mentioned you must have three versions if you want. 1.2.16, 1.5.1 open beta and tomorrow 2.0 alpha

He did indeed. ED is already taking 50Gb on my SSD, so with alpha 2.0 coming out as well it will probably hit the 75Gb mark. Already transferred some other stuff to the HDD.

There won't be a 1.5 release. As soon as the Caucasus map is converted to DCS 2.0 and they have verified it as OK I have a feeling they'll change the Open Beta to 2.0.

DCS 1.5 was always meant to be a stop-gap so that ED could get feedback on the new engine (EDGE). The NTTR and Caucasus maps are of different versions (Caucasus is T4 and NTTR is T5, and both versions can't be in the same client). Once the Caucaus map is updated to T5 there is no need for the 1.5 beta-branch.

They probably will skip 1.5 stable all together. Just to be nit picking, NTTR uses the T4 evolution of the terrain engine whereas the Caucasus map uses still the T3. This will be converted to T4 as well.

  6. Cobra, let's get this straight:

You guys have absolutely nothing to apologize for. You are by far one of the most competent and trustworthy 3rd party developers out there, unlike some other ones that are unsure of what they are doing at all.

When you guys make an announcement, or when you give us updates, they are actually updates, they are actually worth the time to look at your posts. A delay by you, just means that when you do give us something, it's going to be worth it.

So cut yourself some slack. Nobody is going to get pissy at you guys. And if they are, give me their names.

+1 Couldn't have put it better!

    Get well soon Cobra :clown:

  7. I do not know if it has been mentioned here before (it probably has), but I can't go through all the threads on the forum to look it up. So here it goes.

The single most annoying aspect of the Su-27 are the wheel brakes. If you press the brakes for longer than a second when moving, the tyres always burst. :wallbash:

This doesn't look professional at all if the pilot has to constantly tap the brakes making the '27 look like it's about to enter an hydraulics jumping plane competition.

So, maybe its time for a little fix? Either remove the tyre popping (ABS or something) or give us the opportunity to bind the brakes to a slider on the stick. That way I can dose the brakes.

  8. Hi gentelmen,

You have not seen the gazelle in any update cause we are running an inhouse testphase at the moment to check certain buggs and solve them, cause customers should not be the alpha testers in my, our, opinion.

I do have to thank all of you for the positive vibs and it is the engine for all of the team to keep working hard on the moduls and future projects that are still hidden ;-)

    cheers

    Sven

Take your time! We'll be eagerly waiting :smilewink:

  9. hello yall.

    (...)

this is the list of aircraft i reckon i could realistically bring to DCS world at some point after uni, (probably) in order.

    1: Sukhoi Su-22m4 (FRG)

    2: Blackburn Buccaneer S.2D

    3: Sepecat Jaguar GR1A

    4: Kamov Ka-29TB

    5: ATE Mi.24 Super-hind Mk.III

    (...)

Personally, I'd be very interested in the first three you mentioned, in that particular order.

I wish you all the best and good luck with developing them!
