  1. So, my Odessey arrived yesterday (so I was up all night...haha). And I am definitely keeping it. I have had the Rift for about six months and it's a great HMD, but the Odessy will replace my Rift. It is(to me) better than the rift. Not "OMG" better but it is better. Some things it is 'much better' at and somethings only 'better'. The deciding factor was the Instant action Intercept mission for the L39 on the Nevada map. Before, when using the Rift, it was sometimes almost impossible to visually find the two other L39's that you are supposed to shoot down. With the Odessy I spot them almost immediately. I think it's a combination of things. I find the colors to be a bit better, the SDE is definitely better (it's still there though) and the resolution is MUCH better. And just to reiterate, the SDE is still there. You will see it immediately. I know some reviews I saw say "you had to look for it". I would have to disagree with that. It's still noticeable enough without having to look for it. So I think it's a combination of all those things and not just one thing that helped me find the target aircraft. L39's, Hawks and other small aircraft are VERY hard to visually spot in DCS with the Rift and with the Odessey it was is a big improvement over the Rift as far as that goes. I also did some other missions where I had had difficulty before with the Rift finding the targets visually and with the Odessey, spotting them was much easier. That there was a huge difference to me between the two HMDs and like I said before, it was the big factor in making my decision on keeping it. Head tracking was great for me. No real difference(Rift was always great for tracking and so is the Odessey). Every once and a while I would get some chugging or rubberbanding but I think that's might be caused by steam. I had the same issue with Elite Dangerous in steam. Then when I launched it through the Oculus home it was fine. I REALLY hate the steam VR app! :ranting: It is so damn unstable to me. Anyways, I would highly recommend the Odessy over the Rift for any new user that has not had an HMD before. For current user of the Rift, it may be a hard decision. Like I said it's not a massive improvement but still enough of an improvement for me to keep it. I can definitely understand why BOOSTERX did not choose to keep it. For some, it just will not be that big of an improvement, I think it's going to come down to individual preference for Rift users.
  2. HAHA...What Worm said! I totally agree. I think it's a good sign. Also!! Something happened to my Oddessey order from last Friday. Samsung messed something up on the order and I had to reorder on Tuesday over the phone. I was pretty pissed. But turns out to be a good thing. I just got a tracking update from fedex and it arrives today...holy crap! The guy told me it would be one to two weeks before it was even shipped. sweetness and good on Samsung!
  3. As far as screen resolution goes I have it on the highest, 3840x1080 and under the vr tab in options I have my pixel density at 1.6 Also, I am only seeing a HUD_definitions.lau for each specific aircraft, no default one. I attached the one for the A10c HUD_definitions.lua
  4. Haha...no worries. I remember sitting perfectly still in front of the sensors for my first week with the rift before figuring out the cam reset 5 key...haha :megalol: I don't know much about LAUs. I just go to camera views in the control settings and map my "cockpit views" to a hat switch and cntrl key to fine tune my cockpit positions/views. Not sure if that will work for your issue though. HAHA Worm!
  5. Hi Thick8, If it's just the camera view that's off you can just hit "5" on the numpad (that resets the cam view). But not sure if that's what the issue is.
  6. HEY! DigitalEngine! Thanks for the info and love your videos! I finally broke down and started concentrating on one aircraft, the SU25T and your videos were the best tutorials out there on that ship, in my opinion. Thanks!! And thanks for the video link Wormeaten! Awesome! :)
  7. Ya, I guess I'll see too. I just ordered the Odessey on Friday so I guess I will find out soon enough...haha :) I still have the rift so not too worried about it Thanks for your replies guys! :)
  8. You would need the Steam DCS though, correct?
  9. Hello Thick8, So if I understood you correctly: "Windows allows you to place your desktop as a window in VR, so I did that. I made it so that it was as wide as the view thru the HMD to simulate the whole 110 degrees. Then I fired up DCS in full-screen mode (1080p) and sat on the asphalt at Batumi to see what my A-10c looked like. It was beautiful. I made sure that my position in the cockpit was as accurate of a representation as when I fly on my 2d screen." You actually cannot run DCS in VR mode with the Samsung? It was running as 2D in your VR desktop is that correct?
  10. ...But always quite delicious! :) ..And waffles too
