Fleet Falcon "Fleet Falcons" - VFA-137 Kestrals My first skin(ever). Need to still tweak a few things. Don't like the font for numbers. Need to figure out how to get them changed. - One of the 3 last original VFA squadrons. - This is when I was with them when they were still stationed in Cecil Field, FL - Somewhat fictional, being that the paint scheme is from an F18A and it's on an F18C :smilewink: - Going to work on the Charlie skin and the CAG skin soon - And I cleaned up the "dirt" on the skin. That thing was WAY UNSAT! You would rarely see a dirty bird like that.:no_sad::D

Hi Gripes! To record nice videos just play in VR as you normally would then save your mission track after you finish. Then go to settings and uncheck VR under the VR tab and relaunch DCS in normal 2d mode and run your track (Replay)and record away!

"Gravity Gears"...?? I find that quite interesting...You would have to keep some "Galactic strength" WD40 on hand though. :alien:

HEY! HEY!!...I was playing some craps and video poker at the bar!!

I know right?? Case 2 and 3s are going to be a wee bit tricky :P

It's on the map, just not on the developed part of the map. You can see the satellite image of Fallon on the north part of the map.

They do, it's just called ICLS (Instrument Carrier Landing System) and ACLS which is automated. ICLS is is a little different than ground-based ILS but it pretty much the same idea (localizer and glideslope). Also, Waggs said in a post (I can't remember where it's at) that they will not be implementing ICLS, I think because maybe the Navy is getting rid of it. They are going to be implementing the ACLS at some point. Anyway, I think the Navy has or is removing the ICLS systems and will be replaced soon by the JPALS (Joint Precision Approach and Landing System). It's a little unclear how this is proceeding.

Like others have said...voice attack, voice attack, VOICE ATTACK! It's your VR friend ;)

I use VR and see the ball easily a quarter mile out. I have a very good GPU, but can hardly say I have a top end system.

Thanks Rudel! uggh..Not a big fan of this forums search feature. I did several different searches and NEVER saw that one.

Not sure if my issue is related, but I have made several Persian gulf map missions from the mission editor with several aircraft set up as clients, including the Mig-21. Anytime I select the 21, DCS crashes as soon as it tries to load in. The other aircraft that I had in the selection list were the Mig29, SU27, AV8B and F8 (so far that I have tested) and none of those cause any issues. Just he Mig 21.

Hi Griphos, I believe if you launch DCS 2.2 OA now it should ask you if want to upgrade to DCS 2.5 Release Version. Though I am not 100% sure about that since I deleted it when it gave me that option when the 2.5 OB came out at the end of JAN. But I am pretty sure that's what happens Furthermore: 2.5 OB and 2.2 OA at no time would overwrite the old Release Version of DCS 1.5 - When 2.5 OB came out at the end of Jan., I believe the only option available was to delete DCS 2.2 OA, that is all. I chose to delete it, but I didn't have too. - So up until this current release of DCS 2.5 release version that just came out, everyone should have had DCS 1.5 release version. If someone did not have It, then it was most likely uninstalled manually by accident or manually deleted by accident. Now for the DCS 2.5 release version that came out the other day, if you download and install it, what it will affect is: - Old DCS 1.5 release version - Update it to the new DCS 2.5 Release Version and give you the option to save DCS 1.5 as a separate install - DCS 2.2 OA - It will be merged/deleted/removed(whatever you want to call it). Anyways the DCS 2.2 OA folder will be gone. I don't think there was any choice given on that. They don't support it anymore. - DCS 2.5 OB - No effect Hope that helps :) P.S. There is always going o be a beta version going on. It is like that with most software, games etc. Usually, the only time I see betas being upgraded to full release for other games is that it's the grand opening launch of a game. After that they ALWAYS have an ongoing beta version (that is optional).

Yep, usually, because turn geometry just wasn't quite there and the nose stuck out past the foul line( or the pilot or handler screwed up the turn..haha:shifty:). Also, tugs were mainly only used in between opps to tweak AC parking spots and to move them to and from the elevators. The only time used during opps were for emergency purposes, say to get an AC out of the way that had no pilot in it. Usually, it was for larger AC like an E2, COD or a 14. Like Hawkeye above said, 18s could be pushed back by hand.

Ahhhh yes...That makes more sense! :)

haha, Ya, me too. AD3 late 80s early 90s. I worked on C2s, F18s, A6s, and CH53s. But most my time on the 18s and CODs. COOL to see a fellow Forstall air winger! :) I was in its last airwing, CVW 6. Anywho, The OP posted this a while back so it's a bit old. Not really interested in joining them, just thought it was cool to see a bunch of ADs on here (if they mean Aviation Machinist Mate). :)
-
AD? As in Aviation Machinist mate?

I think most of us vets are fine with it. I think most people wear some type of military clothing, regalia or insignia out of respect, admiration or just plain interest in the military. Just like me wearing my pro football teams jersey. Doesn't mean I am a pro football player. I'm just a fan. But as like we are all saying, Don't tell people you are a "pro football player" just because you have the jersey....if ya know what I mean. ;)

A Question About Naval Aviation And Winter
dopebogey replied to AKarhu's topic in Military and Aviation
I was on carries for three years and my last deployment was in the North Atlantic for 5 months from January to May (a long time ago ;) ). I worked on the flight deck as final checker/troubleshooter for 18's. There wasn't any special equipment. It was business as usual. I only saw once someone using deicing spray back on the fantail to clear a path to move some planes around, but that was it. Like Napolean above said, there are 4 steam cats on the decks...that's the deicing equipment for a carrier and the equipment on it. Our equipment is pretty tough and doesn't need much for harsh weather conditions. The only thing I can say that the cold weather affected was us...haha. It was F'n cold as hell up there. As long as I was launching planes I could stay fairly warm. But doing maintenance up there was a whole different story. trying to drop an AMAD, generator or an APU on a charlie could be a real b**ch. You had cumbersome foul weather gear on and your hands get real numb real quick in negative temps. -
YES! Going home now to see how long it takes to download this sucker!

Hi Speedy, Yes, you need to have steam VR and windows mixed reality previewer. Both require Steam. :) This video will help: Also, I would suggest always launching everything from your desktop in the VR headset and not your actual monitors.
-
Great Speedywrx!!! Regardless of all the pros and cons we all have been talking about, it's VR. It's still leaps and bounds better than a 2d monitor. People who say they will wait until 2nd gen or that VR isn't that great most likely have never used VR or used it for 2 seconds, said they didn't like and think they know everything there is to know about VR now. I always hear DCS VR users say they just can't ever go back to monitors. But I have never heard someone say they went back to monitors after getting an HMD. Maybe there is some out there like that but I have never heard from one.

So I needed to add an update since my last one. Friday night when I got home there were 3 or 4 Windows updates that had to be run. This was not good. Since I ran those, the Odessay tracking has been bad. Not sure if it was the updates or something else but the timing sure makes me think it was that. It jerks and chugs all over the place. The picture is still better but the tracking became horrible after the updates. :crash: Also, at the time of my review I had only done DCS and some race sims, but not any other games, specifically ones using the Odessey controllers. I will have to say I am not a big fan of those. I constantly lose track them or they just seem to go to random places on their own. Pretty pissed with steam (as usual) too. They make MMR headsets compatible with steam apps, but not the controllers. One game I have from steam will not let me use it because my controllers are not "compatible". Now I am not sure If I will keep the Odessey. If I cannot get the tracking to go back to how it was when I first set it up I just can't see keeping it. Geez! I hate windows updates!

I am wondering if it's a developer thing. I have noticed that too. Some planes instruments being easier to see than others. But I don't know much about software development so who knows. I haven't noticed any fuzziness to the HUDs myself

Hi Precog, Yep, they are there. They are Fresnel lenses just like the Rift so I don't think there is any way of getting around that with fresnel lenses. However, they didn't seem to be as predominant as they are in Rift. There are some apps I have not used yet with the Odessey that I know will create significant god rays in the Rift. I'll try them out and let everyone know what happens.
