  1. Chillspider, you are probably looking at the wrong executeable. The only thing that automatically uses both cores is the "launcher.exe" I believe. Look for the DCS.exe and check again. The DCS.exe is your Blackshark running executeable.

Also, if you run XP, setting the affinity to use both cores in XP results in no FPS benefits. But do the same thing in Vista and you will be pleasantly pleased with your fps increase.

Again, make sure it is the DCS.exe that you are setting. The launcher.exe is just to launch the Graphic User Interface. The DCS.exe will only "pop-up" after the game actually starts, so to see it you will need to "alt-tab" out of the game and check your processor affinity for it.

Also, I recommend doing the following in Vista,

-Set the affinity to auto start with Blackshark's DCS.exe (a few methods to do this on the links here)

-right click the DCS.exe in your Eagle Dynamics/KA-50/bin/ folder, go to properties, click on the compatibility tab, check the box to run as administrator and also check the box to "disable desktop composition". This will automatically turn off all the eye-candy theme of Vista when you start the game, but it will come back on when you exit the game, automatically.

-before clicking on the blackshark icon to start the game, right click on the sidebar and turn it off. You can always turn it back on after your done flying in Blackshark.

These thing may help some of you that may have some resource issues and help your system run a bit quicker when gaming in Vista.

I personally do all of these, even with a very strong system, as well as turn off any background process's by optimizing Windows Vista ( Should be done for XP as well to get the maximum from your system). Many sites on the net, Some googled here

  2. For those of you missing the "point" of using Vista with Blackshark, read the entire forum thread here

    http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=35091

    and here:

In short: Using Blackshark with Vista (32 or 64 bit) yields approx 10 to 20 fps more consistantly over the same system on XP. But to see the results you must do the affinity trick and do it correctly ( ie. not on the launcher.exe and activate each time or use the affinity tweaks mentioned here and in other threads so that the multi-core affinity tweak auto starts for you.)

Up to you if you want to use XP or Vista, but just know that you will get more FPS on Vista with a multicore system, over XP.

I am currently running Blackshark on a dual boot system, running XP Pro and Vista x64, and I am consistantly getting approx 18-20 fps more in my Vista boot-up than I do when I boot into XP and run Blackshark.

  3. Very Cool!

Hm... To finalize your design, you could go to radio shack and get one of these, sewing it to the backside of the glove to hold the AA battery

Or better yet, use a smaller watch battery and holder ( ultra small ) and if need be drop the voltage to whatever you need with an inline diode, placing this on the backside of the glove for easy battery replacement.

    I think I now have a reason to buy a Wii !

Great idea and initiative getting this to work! Good Job and thanks for sharing it with us.

  4. Any version of Vista I believe will do the trick. The affinity tweak works to enhance the FPS in Blackshark under the VISTA operating system due to how this Microsoft operating system handles multi-core cpu instructions.

Even though you can set the affinity for multi-core cpus under XP, based upon tests from many users (including myself) there is no fps difference under the XP operating system. The additional fps gained by setting the affinity for the DCS.exe (note: not the launcher.exe) seems to work only under the Vista OS.

I hope this helps to clarify what has been said.

  5. Fine if you disagree, but currently for the many who have tried Blackshark in Vista (both x86 or x64 versions) and compared it to their XP fps numbers, the winner here so far has been Vista. You don't have to agree for this to be a fact, It is what it is. And even though Blackshark runs quite well on XP, it does in fact run better on Vista for me as well as many others who have tried both and reported back on the Vista results.

Maybe Vista is just not for you; but it makes no sense in "trying" to hold others back from experiencing great results with Blackshark in Vista with a multi-core cpu when you personally have been unable to get it to work well enough for you. Stay with XP and be happy then, nobody really cares if you change to Vista or not. :) These are choices that we all have, isn't it great!

  6. Same here Mxyzpylk, I tried Blackshark on this dual boot system in both XP and Vista, and Vista x64 won hands down. Much smoother with the affinity trick, resulting in around 20 fps more over XP. In XP the affinity trick resulted in no gain in fps at all.

I still can't believe I am saying it being a long time opponent of Vista for gaming titles, but if you have a strong system, with a multicore processor, you'll find that Vista is better with Blackshark than XP is.

  7. Just an FYI:

I have tried it on XP 32 (no problems) and Vista x64 (no problems) but with an Intel Core2 Duo or Quad Core processor, you will want to gain all the Frames per Second that you can get by using Vista. The way the Vista optimizes for multi-core processors has anywhere from a 10 to 20 fps more effect over XP using dual core processors.

For those that hate Vista, remember thats what everyone said about XP when everyone was using Win98 SE for gaming, and here we are today running XP mostly. Vista x32 and x64 are fantastic operating systems, that just take time in getting to know how to tweak them to run the applications you have the best.

Vista for lockon is definitely not as good as with XP... But Vista for Blackshark is quite a bit better than XP with Blackshark. So far my Blackshark on Vista x64 runs like a dream.

  8. I tested this on a dual boot system testing both XP and Vista with an Intel Core2 Duo cpu, and I got roughly 15 to 20 fps more in Vista using the affinity to enable the two cores to run the DCS.exe versus the same exact system and enabling affinity in XP.

In XP if I had 40 fps with 1 core, I had 40 fps with 2 cores. In Vista if I had 40 fps with 1 core, I had around 55-60 fps in Vista with dual cores actvated.

    Hope this helps.

  9. As was mentioned before here, you need to get the latest drivers from naturalpoint and then also download the latest game updates from within the TrackIR software interface (gui). Then it should work when you see "Blackshark" in the list of supported games.
