  1. There is a way to OC some Dell and HP computers. Its called BESEL. I did my Dell XPS 410. It had a core 2 duo 2.4@ 1066 mhz Did the BESEL and it went to 3.0 @1333 mhz. Just find the right one for your processor. I did that PC over a year ago, still going strong. I seen this at overckers.net. Neat stuff.
  2. Just an update here. I got my Aurora overclocked and stable at 4.0 GHZ. Still runs cool. My next overclock (even higher) needs some tweaks before its stable.
  3. I now have windows 7 64. Is there a easy way to install LOFC CD for a newbee.
  4. Well I have had my Alienware Aurora for a couple of days now,and all I can say is WOW !!!!! This thing Rocks. No problems what so ever, stays cool and pretty quet. You do hear the cooling speed up under load. I loaded FSX,LOMAC,Crysis,MW2,COD4 and all on the highest settings. Not a single issue. As far as the inside of the case its well laid out nice wiring plenty of room . The case before I bought it I had my doubts on the looks. But I have to admit it looks even better than in the pics. I have not tryed to OC it yet, running at 3.6 ghz right now,and can't imagin what thing is going to do when I OC and upgrade the RAM to 1600 mhz. In all honestly for a prebuilt this is awsome.
  5. My 3 year old Dell PC,ran crysis, blackshark, lomac, anything I threw at it with no problems. By todays standard it old and abslete. C2D 2.4,8 GB DDR2 800 mhz,768 MB gforce 8800 GTX,Raptor HD ,750 watt PSD. The one thing that I hated about Dell was the ability to OC. Thats the reason I was going to build my own. I asked people at places like Tomshardware,Overclocker.com and a few people who built them. It pretty much was an even split on the pros and cons of building myself. Some said it would be easy to build, and with the ""right "" parts to OC. The other said that there are things to look at ,like parts compatability, setting up BIOS,and the dredded DOA parts that would drive you crazy after building it and the PC would not work. My first 2 PC were custom built by a relitive of mine that did it for years. He built them ( at the time ) state of the art. They lasted me years. But the one thing I did not miss was when it broke. It was a change the part out and hope and see it it worked. I had no Tech. support to call, and the parts came out of my pocket. There are a few post over at Tomshardware that people said that you could not build a comperable PC for the cost of a Alienware.
  6. I had a 8800 gtx go out to fan went out. Called Dell told them what was going on and sent me another one the next day. Even asked it I wanted a service tech to put it in.... IMO> the 8800 gtx out performs the 9800... My Alienware has the ugraded radeon 5870 in it . I will have to see how that works out. Dells polocy is if thay cant fix it due to parts or other. It will be replaced by the same specs or better.
  7. This is not totaly true. The Alienware can be overclocked. There is a new BIOS for it. There is what is a simple step that OC it to a certain point. More or less a one button aproch. Then there are the manual way to OC it. I have alread read where 4.0 clocks have been gotten. In all honestly I did want to build my own rig. And in a lot of ways its best. But in my circustances I am getting a better computer than I could have built for the price. Useing the Alienware case is a common acurance, people want the case trash the MB and use the rest.
  8. I started to build my own rig, even got a few of the parts. Then the motherboard went out in my dell. Once I found out what the replacement computer was I decided not to build a new one. Now answer this. The computer that went out had a C2D 2.4 cpu. The Alienware pc that I am getting in exchange has a i7-975 extreme 3.6 cpu,old pc ram DDR2 800 mhz,new pc ram 1066 DDR3 just to name a few upgrades. That did not cost me anything. The exstened warranty cost me less than $200. It don't take a rocket scientist to see the difference.
  9. When I bought my first Dell it had a lot of junk softeare on it. I reformated and that was it. My XPS 710 didn't have any nada.... I have heard some good things about volacity, but again mine is being replaced at no cost.
  10. Mine is covered under the warranty. But I priced it out around $3000 on the Dell site. But my XPS 710 cost about the same. I priced the AW out at newegg and it came out to about $2500
  11. The 240 is the low end of video cards for alienware. But planning on replacing it with a raideon 5770 or better.Hows those 260s preform.
  12. The Alienware I am getting is a replacement for my XPS 710 ,MB went out. I just see alot of delays and cancels from Dell. In the old days, you ordered and got your new Pc in 7 to 10 days. I see people who are waiting months for it. Whats your system specs ? I have a gforce 8800 gtx in the 710,very good card. Mine> Aurora>black i7-975 exstream 3.6 ghz 6 gb 1066 ram gforce 240 gts 640 MB sata HD blue ray/dvd/cd grives meadia reader windows 7 64 bit 875 watt psu
  13. I have a Alienware PC in production. But from the Dell blogs there are some stupid delay times. Dell has said parts are to blame for the delays . Has anyone heard of these part shortages. Word s ram and GPUs.
  14. Count me out ! I got a nasty taste from MW2.
  15. I loved the other BF games. Maybe someone can answer a few questions. \\ 1> what are systen requirments 2> Release date 3>I play MW2,byt can't stand the hacks. How is this going to measure up to being hacked. 4> Will it have dedicated servers. Thanks
  16. If a heat sink fan gos out, what parts are usually going to be burnt up. Only processor or MB or both..Sorry to ask but my friends did this and now we can't figure out witch is bad...
  17. Nice build. How dose your AMD run games like BS and FSX. I agree on the C2D and C2Q cpus going out.
  18. Sorry to get things in a debate. I was just curios about my questions. Now that I know I could get more activation, even though it was not my fault to use them. Thanks for the info and links. Now I can install and play the game again. Thanks again...
  19. At the rate company's are closing ,this is a concern. I hope ED never closes and honestly hope things get so good for them in the future they will be rolling in money.
  20. I feel your pain ! That was my problem to,as my PC is still under warranty . Tech support told me to reinstall the OS 3 times in 4 months . Stupid me reinstalled BS 3 times and could not deactivate it. I was so mad about loosing 3 activation that I have not installed or played BS since. In all honestly I understamd the need for copy protection, but protection and limited activations ....:(
  21. I have had a few games that had "limited" activations. And now those games are in the trash. When I bought BS I new that it had limited activations (CD). The thing that I did not plan on was unforseen problem arising. Which cost me activations. Totaly out of my control. As in reinstalling LOFC many times, due to glitches and being told to reinstall the game.
  22. My first 2 PCs had AMDs in them. Then I bought 2 Dells. One had a dual core and the other had a C2D. Both good. From what I can see from bench marks the i5 is barly more powerfull than the cpu I picked out. i would love the i7 but intel, is realy proud of them. This is my first build, and I am sure I will upgrade or build another.
  23. Thanks for the help. I was afraid of the limited activation.
  24. Thanks. I have a DVD/CD drive in an old Dell, but didn't know if it would work. The system that I am building should blow away my old one. C2D e6600 2.4 4 GB 800mhz ram gforce 8800 gtx 150 gb raptor hd xp
  25. Sorry if this has been ansewered. The new version sounds great. Price sounds good to. But I read where it has online activation. I have the original game on disk.If I buy this it will upgrade my game to 2.0 correct? Also is there going to be limited activations like Black Shark. Thanks.
