  2. F-15 not doing so good. WASHINGTON - An Air Force investigation of the crash last fall of an F-15C Eagle fighter jet concluded that a defective metal beam in the frame cracked, causing it to disintegrate during flight. In a report being released Thursday, obtained in advance by The Associated Press, Air Force investigators said they had found the sole reason for the accident was the faulty support beam, called a longeron, which failed to meet the manufacturer's specifications. The investigation was led by Air Force Col. William Wignall. "The accident investigation board president (Wignall) found, by clear and convincing evidence, the cause of this accident was a failure of the upper right longeron, a critical support structure in the F-15C aircraft," the report says. About 20 minutes after takeoff from an airfield near St. Louis on Nov. 2, the forward fuselage of Maj. Stephen Stilwell's $42 million F-15C Eagle shook violently and then broke apart 18,000 feet above the ground. Stilwell, his left shoulder dislocated and his left arm shattered, barely had time to safely eject as pieces of his aircraft tumbled from the sky over the Missouri countryside. More troubling, however, are the results of a parallel examination finding as many as 163 of the workhorse aircraft also have flawed support beams, or longerons. The aircraft remain grounded as the Air Force continues to search for how serious the problem is and whether extensive, costly repairs are needed. Another 19 of the aircraft have yet to be inspected and also remain grounded. Nearly 260 of the A through D model F-15s, first fielded in the mid-1970s, were returned to flight status Tuesday following fleet-wide inspections. The twin-engine aircraft are used primarily for homeland security and are a key link in the nation's air defense network. "Two November, my world really changed," Air Force Gen. John Corley, head of Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base, Va., said at a Pentagon news conference. "And it changed in a catastrophic way." The Air Force's fleet of 224 newer F-15E Strike Eagles, which are used in Iraq and Afghanistan, do not have the structural problem. Those jets, whose role is more oriented toward ground attack missions, were temporarily grounded after Stilwell's crash, but returned to service shortly thereafter. The older F-15s are stationed at many so-called "alert" sites around the country, where planes and pilots stand ready to take off at a moment's notice to intercept hijacked airliners and guard protected airspace. Among the Air Force's other workhorse fighter jets is the F-16, which performs multiple roles, including air-to-air combat and air-to-ground attack. It entered the operational fleet in 1979. With the F-15s temporarily grounded, F-16s and other aircraft are pulled away from their regular duties to fill the gaps. That makes it difficult for the Air Force to accomplish its mission and leaves Air Force pilots unable to train properly. "This is systemic," Corley said. The longeron helps support the cockpit and strengthen the jet as it moves through high-stress maneuvers while traveling hundreds of miles per hour. Analysis of recovered parts from Stilwell's jet identified a crack in the beam near the fuselage that investigators say grew over time and was not detected during regular maintenance of the aircraft. In the report, Wignall said that prior to Stilwell's flight, "no inspection requirements existed for detecting a crack in the longeron." The F-15A through D models were built by McDonnell Douglas. That company merged with defense manufacturing giant Boeing in August 1997. Company spokeswoman Patricia Frost said Boeing representatives have not seen Wignall's final report and could not comment on it. "However, we are working with the U.S. Air Force to analyze the data gathered from fleet-wide inspections," Frost said "Once all of the data have been analyzed, a need for further inspection or repair can be determined." No decision has been reached as to whether Boeing might be liable for the repairs, which could cost as much as $500,000 per aircraft. "This is the starting point for looking into that question," said Lt. Gen. Donald Hoffman, a senior Air Force acquisition official. "I'm not going to speculate." The F-22 Raptor, a stealth aircraft intended to replace the F-15, is being fielded but in smaller numbers than initially planned. The Pentagon has said it will buy just 183 Raptors due to their high cost, but members of Congress are pressing Defense Secretary Robert Gates to buy more. A single Raptor costs about $160 million, according to the Air Force. The Air Force has said it needs 381 of the F-22s. Corley did not endorse more F-22s as the solution to the F-15 problems. But he indicated buying more F-15s would not be the Air Force's preference. "It was the best of breed at its time," said Corley, who was an F-15 instructor pilot in 1979. "It's not anymore." Loren Thompson, a defense analyst with the Lexington Institute in Arlington, Va., said it may make more sense to retire the older F-15s rather than fix them. Due to their age, another part could fail even after the longerons are repaired. "This is an aircraft that was designed during the Nixon administration," Thompson said. "It doesn't seem sensible to be making fixes so late in the game."
  3. Any word when this might be complete and released. Thanks

  5. Looks great! When will it be released.
  6. Thanks for the reply JimMack.
  7. After doing some research and reading,I came to the conclusion that making a game is very expensive.Games can cost as little as $50,000 to as much as a blockbuster movie. I did find out some interesting things, like EA games will make about 2 billion dollars this year. And the magic number that developers want to sell is 1 million copys. It can take 2 to 5 years to produce a single game. Thanks for all the replies. I hope BS makes that magic number.Merry Christmas to all.
  8. When will it be released.Your J10 is great.
  9. WOW! Thanks for the reply. How long has BS been in development.
  10. I have been reading about the development of games, the past couple of weeks. And watching the development of other game to be released in the future. Some are flight Sim games ,FPS and even a couple of roller coaster Sim games. My questing, hopefully get a response from ED.How long did or dose it take to developer a game, the cost and the profit of the game. Also how many units do you plan on selling. I have asked this questing on other sites developing games, some have replied some have not. There will be no harm done if not ansered,as this is a random questing. Thanks
  11. Here where I live, there are a lot of people who do.Most of the people I know work at Locked or Bell helicopter. The people from Bell are insanely waiting for it,after seeing the in game videos.

  13. Thanks for the reply.Still looking around the forums.Called MS thay said the game is not supported anymore, due to it being a old game.I will continue a work around for it.Thanks again.
  14. Thanks for the reply.this only happens while playing FSX.I will keep looking.
  15. I see a lot of ques tons answered here,so I thought maybe someone could help me.This is my problem, when playing FSX and using my X52 flight stick. When I press the shift or ctrl buttons some of the flight stick buttons stop responding.I have tried mapping in game and with the sst profiler.I have asked this on other forum s and still waiting for answer from saitek. My OS is XP.

  20. This queston is in regaurds of LOMAC FC.I asked this over at a couple of other forums, but did not help. How do I turn on the labels,I have the labels button on, in the difficulty settings. One of the forum to push shift+any f key,I reinstalled the game also.Thanks.
  21. To be honest with you,I bought it thru dell [payment plan].Its a XPS 710.I looked at alienware but to exspensive. My first 2 cpus were custom built, thay are still running today. Both of them had amd prossessors.Sold one gave the other to my son.The computer before this one was a dell XPS 410.It had a Dual core prossessor 3.2 gig and a Gforce 6800 @ 256 meg. When I bought this XPS 710 I looked as far into the future as possible.I was tired of buying cpus every 2 years. This one is totaly upgradable. My future plans are to get another 8800gtx and posobly upgrading to a qaudcore. As far as star force gos yes it comes up every once and a while, maybe one time a month.
  22. My prossessor is a intel E6600 core duo 2 [conroe].My power supply is 750 watts.I will say I am glad I bought the 768 meg Gforce 8800gtx.I am also glad I stuck with XP. My cpu specs- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache Gforce 8800gtx @ 768 meg 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 DimMs 160GB - WD Raptor 10000RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ XtremeMusic (D) Sound Card 22 inch widescreen LCD monotor &50 watt power supply
  23. Maybe DCS could do a modules that has a universal cockpit of sorts .So the people that model could add other planes.Maybe for movies or just as flyables.
  24. I know what you are going thru.I myself had this same delima back in march.I searched the forums and checked the benchmarks.I asked questons out the wazoo. The 2 biggest hardware parts that I kept being advised on ,were a big prossesor and a big video card. So whith that in mind,I bought a core 2 duo 2.4 at 1066mhz [not ever been overclocked.I also bought a 768meg Gforce8800gtx [never been overclocked].I also picked up 2 other items that I thought would help with fps.2 gigs 667 ram and a 10000 rpm sata hd. Some performance exsamples are LOMAC highest settings 50+ fps. crtsis demo 35+fps. and a unbeleavable 30+fps on FSX.I set all my graphic settings and reselutions on high. Before the crysis demo came out,I Asked how it would play over at Toms hardware, they replied perfectly. And it did. So my advice get the biggest Prossessor and biggest video card.I am sure glad I did.
  25. I know I am still new here. The screens look great! There is no in game footage. So we cant see real time playing graphics.Plus the devs that are producing it are on there own with no dead line no corprate sponsors. Will or, if it will ever be released is anybodys call.We do know [PRAYING] that BS will be released in 2008.But just the idea that there is a new flight sim in development in somthing we all sould be thankfull of.Just my opinon.
