  1. I've been trying to bind the datapanel numbers to my numpad keys, and while I can bind this in the options, it doesn't actually work. Same with page up/down and a few others. I read something about how this doesn't work because those keys don't return a "key release" signal, only a "key press" -- however this doesn't seem like a complete answer to me because I have successfully bound numpad keys to function in (for instance) the Gazelle.
  2. That bothers me massively even without CA. Hit a vehicle, watch it smoke, know without fail it's going to brew up a few seconds later. It's rather dull. Improving on the vehicle AI would also be wonderful, so it's not just "oh we're being attacked let's panic and... drive 200m and then stop moving entirely." Evasion? Smoke? Cover? Where are these things?
  3. Well, keep in mind the gun is mounted on the right side of the fuselage, so there's a bias towards the right of where it can engage. I haven't had many experiences where getting the rudder to swing the ship around was difficult, since it's not fighting torque, but I do recommend binding the targeting keys (including Auto Turn to Target) so that you can quickly turn those features on and off. I've bound all of the targeting toggles to QWAS and the autopilot settings to keypad 4,5,1,2 so that they correspond to the cockpit layout. Almost always, if the Ka-50 isn't doing what I expect it to do, it's because one of the autopilot modes is not set how I thought it was.
  4. I did this with a moving train once. The results were... comical. Not to mention fatal.
  5. I think CA is fine for doing very small missions with a collaborative aspect. A ground player, maybe a few air players... it works okay. It's not amazing, it had problems... it was also only $10. Not to say my expectations were met, exactly, but I'm not expecting the world from a $10 product. More to the point, though, I would _gladly_ pay more for a more evolved product that achieved the #1 goal the product seems to want to achieve: providing meaningful context for the air war that is being simulated up above. There are various abstractions of this in the Blue Flag server and others, but all of them are transparent and disappointing. The result is that often aircraft are just flying around, doing their own thing, in a very disorganized fashion. The other result is that most players are only flying air-to-air. Air-to-air combat only exists, of course, in order to maintain air superiority for your bombers. Bombers only exist to effect the battle on the ground. In other words, what we currently have in servers is the exact opposite of how it should really function. If your motivation came from being able to see the actual ground war, and to be able to interact with it in some meaningful way or another (I personally do not think we need a tank sim of any kind in order to do this), it would make a huge echo throughout the entire DCS experience.
  6. I deal with banding issues in my job as well (VFX and design, among other things) and the usual solution is to add a very small amount of noise. Not sure if that would work within engine. I will try to take a screenshot very soon and post just so we're all definitely on the same page.
  7. Why would there be compression? Why would the bit depth degrade? And only around the edges of the image? That doesn't make sense.
  8. Might as well bump this. Haven't had much time for DCS the last few weeks but never got any closer to figuring out this problem in any case.
  9. ...? Or anyone have any idea a better term to describe what I'm talking about?
  10. I'm trying to record some video, and noticing that there's some sort of vignette filter applied over the image in dark/low light conditions. The problem is that filter seems to be low-bit so there's really obvious gradations that are frankly kinda killing my video buzz. Anyone know how to disable or alter this effect?
  11. Sorry I forgot to ever reply to this, but I did discover the (really stupid) cause of the issue: my headset mic was picking up crossover audio from the speakers and activating the cut-out. Turned down the volume a bit and it's fine, until I get adequate headphones of course.
  12. Hi all, Been having a weird problem with my audio. I looked around and while there are a lot of audio issues, none of them are quite what I'm having. I get choppy, stuttery audio in a couple circumstances. One is when using the third person view on most jet aircraft and missiles. The volume level of the engine abruptly changes, repeatedly, pulsing about every second or two. This same thing happens while also in the cockpit of the Ka-50. It does not happen in the Su-25 cockpit or any other jet that I've tried. I haven't tested it with other aircraft. It is isn't constant (sometimes it's there, sometimes not) but it is repeatable every session. Anyway, very annoying problem and hoping to find a solution. This is the internal audio on a Gigabyte Z97M-D3H motherboard.
