  1. Getting back into DCS lately now that I have my setup all working correctly again. About 2/3 of my DCS time has been spent rotary, mostly in the Ka-50 and Gazelle, but I also have the Huey (and very basic quote-unquote competence in it). Do not have the Mi-8 but mostly out of lack of interest from my few friends who DCS. If you are still active I might very well be interested! Also curious about your setup for CV1. That's been the main focus of my return, but having real issues with target spotting. Even lowly ZU-23 emplacements have become a real threat especially with all the new trees in Caucasus... any tips for overcoming that (without resorting to labels on or anything silly like that) would be appreciated.
  2. Would love to see an answer to this as I've seen the same behavior in Hueys, Gazelles, and sometimes also fast movers with dumb weapons. It seems by default they are not interested in using their weapons!
  3. Just learned about DCE and eager to give it a try. I notice that in the Desert F-18 campaign, for instance (and probably others) the instructions are to extract the missions within the DCS install folder. Is this necessary due to hardcoded pathing or something, or can it be installed in the User folder instead (generally better practice since those files don't get overwritten by DCS updates)?
  4. Thanks for the help guys -- any further best practices or advice on related issues would also be appreciated, feel free to drop them all on me! I tend to drop in and out of the DCS editor every year or so and it's not super intuitive so I usually forget lots.
  5. I found it under Set Option. There appears to only be a timeout option, but that's a good start. Does it inherit this trait from a previous waypoint, unless overwritten? (ie, can I set it on the unit itself at "waypoint 0" and have it pass all the way through? Or do I have to set it at each waypoint?) A way to make this global would be awesome. A way to have it invoke units actually taking cover would be even better, but I'm probably asking for too much now.
  6. I've searched around a bit for this and can't find anything. Is there a way to alter the default behavior of ground units under fire? Right now, if a convoy gets attacked, it splits off and then each unit just sits there stationary for quite a while, regardless of whether there is any cover available. In essence, they make themselves much easier targets until, several minutes in the future, they all decide to get moving again. All ground unit stuff seems to need a very significant overhaul but in the meantime is there a way to hack around and change or alter this behavior?
  7. Aww, likewise. This sounded pretty, well, interesting!
  8. Yeah, exactly. I can bind the majority of the functions without needing to look there, so why can't I rotate the dial? If I could bind this to / and * or PgUp and PgDn, the whole console would be so easy to use without error. Like I said in the OP, I just don't understand why this binding doesn't exist since every other rotary dial has it!
  9. Ahhh, I had no idea this was a Viggen-specific problem. Was very frustrating last night as I was doing lots of low-level flight, and in the replays I was invariably slamming into the ground when that hadn't happened in real time. And people in general DCS had no idea what I was talking about! Is this issue at all related to the AI's inability to do low-level flight properly?
  10. There certainly aren't any within a given aircraft, and it was showing this behavior from the very first time I assigned it.
  11. There's a binding for rotating the radar mode selector, the TILS, and the weapons... but not one that I can find for the Data Selector (which is one of the most useful!)?
  12. I'm having an issue with my MCG Pro and/or with my brain. The wheel brake lever binds successfully in the axis assign for any aircraft I've assigned it to, and axis tune shows it responds correctly to the full range of values! However, it does not actually work in-game for any of them that I've tried (Viggen, Ka-50).
  13. Here's a quick one: update the tutorial missions to not be broken. The armaments tutorial is currently broken and can't proceed even to the point of getting in the air, because it instructs and waits on you to switch to the door gunner position in an aircraft that has no door gunners. It also refers to obsolete key bindings, but that was easy enough to sort out and overcome.
  14. This is awesome, I look forward to trying it out! I agree that getting kneeboard details inserted correctly would be a high priority item. Also seems like adding intended altitude to waypoints would be good, since this is continually referenced in-flight. PS - looks like you got the mapping angle under control now with the true DCS map, so this probably isn't relevant anymore... but in the future, this is one of the handier online mapping tools I've found: https://mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php (it allows you to quickly change between different map resources on the fly on the top right, I use it all the time for planning outdoor adventures and creating hybrid maps)
  15. Wow, thanks for this. A very informative and interesting thread. In terms of performing these missions with absolute radio silence... the thought makes me grimace! In DCS -- well, it would be very impressive indeed. I suspect it would take a level of skill on par with, oh, I dunno... several professionally trained pilots?
  16. Oh hey, thanks... the issue of actually trying to use the radio frequency knobs is still pretty significant, though, at least for me. They are unreliable to say the least.
  17. Thanks grunf, that was a much easier explanation than all the others I've seen. Too bad so many components of it are currently not working – hopefully this is a priority for Heatblur. Right now I don't think there is any way to use SimpleRadio with the Viggen, for instance, on any of the popular mp servers.
  18. Here's a bigger question: why can't we access the mission planner in multiplayer???
  19. You can do this now. The kneeboard has pages with data on all of your waypoints, including QFE. If you need to set a waypoint using new information, such as provided by JTAC, you can get LON/LAT from the JTAC/F10 map, input it into the computer, and save new waypoints. xxJohnxx just released a very good video tutorial on how to do this. I believe at that point your kneeboard should update accordingly... of course I could be wrong, and haven't tried it.
  20. exni - you might find this as helpful as I did for fixing that T0/T1/TV issue to get true releasable buttons (I can use the numpad for the datapad now!) https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=181720
  21. Ah, great, and much needed! (as was said above - in addition to these and other videos, there ARE training missions currently in the game, and they're all very helpful. Hopefully many more coming, as well - and not broken like the CCIP one was... now fixed thankfully.)
  22. Just curious, maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but it appears that chaff/flare release is an on/off situation, where once you trigger the releease, you must manually trigger it again to stop it. The release pattern of course being modified by the various settings you apply on the panel. However, the sound of release is almost inaudible in the cockpit, and there doesn't seem to be a visual indicator anywhere - is there any way to tell if you are releasing or not (other than looking all the way back, and even so with chaff it can be hard to see), so you don't end up out of countermeasures when you didn't expect to be?
  23. No problem, stumbled on it quite accidentally myself and was very happy!
  24. Well, the kneeboard DOES contain your flightplan data, including QFE for each waypoint. So for targeting purposes this is pretty much already taken care of properly in the kneeboard, no?
  25. Gotcha, thanks
