  2. Edit- Some posts seem to have disappeared.... Next.
  3. I'm so tired of this Forget all of the bad piloting and struggles that I have with trackir & snap view... Conservatively I counted 17 tracer hits, mostly to each wing and a few to the fuselage, before the radiator was damaged which appears to have no impact on the performance of the 109. If the ratio of non tracer to tracer rounds is 10:1 that means I put somewhere between 17 and 190 rounds into the 109 and he just flew happily back to his airbase... For comparison I added a clip of me getting killed while dealing with a phone call. I can't believe the 109 was that much more durable than the P-51. edit- For whatever reason I can not get the video to embed in the post, sorry.
  4. if that is the important one why did they make it so freaking hard to read:doh:
  5. Is there a difference between trimming with the knobs and trimming with flight controls? Thanks for the explanation. I can definitely improve on my rpm management with this info, but side slip must be the majority of my problem still. I try to cruise at or under 36" to avoid heat/stress on the engine. I have no problem getting to the full 67" when needed... by then it is usually too late for me though lol. While on the topic of heat, the green zone is from 70-80C (or 80-90C... I can't recall of the top of my head) on the oil temp gauge. With the radiators in auto I find that oil temps are usually in the 90-100C at 250 mph. Is it safe to operate the engine above the "green" zone on the oil temp gauge? The water temp gauge is very hard for me to read with my current setup so I can't say what temp it is normally at. If 90C is the max "safe" operating temperature that seems incredibly low. Should I not be so concerned with the temp approaching the red line on the oil temp gauge?
  6. Interesting. Perhaps I'm misusing the rpm control then? If all other conditions are equal, will your airspeed be higher with with a higher or lower RPM for a given manifold pressure?
  7. I try really hard to only engage when I'm coming from behind with a speed advantage. I very rarely go head on because I find it almost impossible to track aircraft and fly at the same time. I've actually got much much better at using the gun sight. I regularly score hits but never kills it seems. The only time I can achieve 300 IAS is in a sustained dive. Am I doing something wrong? Normal flight is 2700rpm/36" as soon as I know I'm going to be engaging I go to 3000 rpm and control mp as best I can based on air speed... which is usually 250-275 mph. Also I try to keep the aircraft trimmed and keep an eye on the turn/slip to make sure I'm not bleeding off energy that I need... That is part of the reason I find it so hard to track. It seems like once you start to maneuver it's very hard (for me) to keep from getting too much side slip... I've died from 300+ IAS stalls from getting to sideways and trying to pull too hard. I really wish there was a server that allowed data export because I'm sure I would see my errors immediately in tacview.
  8. Going back to post #1... Can we please just add to this list? Everything else being discussed here has really been beaten to death elsewhere... I guess since there are 109/190 pilots posting in here I should ask what is the hardest aspect of the P-51 to deal with?
  9. Much like my P-51 in airquake servers, this thread is spiraling down to a fiery death:doh:.
  10. With NTTR on sale right now I'm wondering if any WW2 servers are using it? It may be the deciding factor in me getting or not getting the map right now as I've flown the prop planes pretty much exclusively for the last few months. Thanks in advance! -Int
  11. I flew the 109 in ACG for the first time yesterday (logged about .5 hours total) and I know where all of my troubles come from now. It is much easier to fly, feels faster and more nimble, can climb better. The only thing that I found worse than the mustang was high speed dive (discussed previously), right roll rate (left seemed acceptable), and the gun sight. Visibility was no where near as bad as I expected. It is definitely not quite as good as the P-51 but I had expected tracking to be much much more difficult than it was and I didn't miss the rear warning radar at all. On top of all of that the feeling of actually being able to do something about seeing a P-51 behind you was incredible. I landed shots in my first multiplayer fight against people I know fly the 51 fairly regularly. It wasn't a kill but I was expecting it to be much more difficult than it was. I did manage to blow the engine up on it at least, so at least I know that isn't a unique characteristic of the P-51 now :P. Having done that I think I'm going to really change how I fly the mustang... I somehwhat understand how easy I was making things on the 109 pilots.
  12. Ah thanks, mine are usually .5 to 2 hours.
  13. Sorry, I mean how do you get it to replay properly? Every time I try to watch a replay it shows me crashing into the ground very shortly after takeoff. Usually that isn't what happens :P
  14. if you got the track to work can you please share how?
  15. And how to not suck in the P-51 online :smilewink:. So far the pointers have been: Start higher than the 109/190 Stay faster than them Don't turn with a 109 Fight 109's 2v1 with TS
  16. Watching videos like these always remind me how absolutely brutal the air war was. Incredible footage, and incredibly sobering. One thing I definitely noticed was the number of leaking radiators. Also, those external fuel tanks... yikes.
  17. Flaps can be used for a (very) short takeoff, but otherwise are not needed.
  18. DoW does have export enabled. I will have to spend some time in there when I see others in the server.
  19. Looking back thru my Tacview folder I don't see any files from the ACG server :(. I know I have been in there fairly recently but the only files that aren't empty (1KB) are either from SP or the virtual aerobatics server that I spend time on when no one is in the WW2 servers. I'll look for the DoW server as well. I know I've flown there but it has been a very long time as this and the ACG servers are usually where I see people. Mine also appear black.
  20. Since all aircraft have to have the channel frequencies set in the mission editor I guess its up to eekz on how/if to do them. I think Channel A is Novorossiysk ATC, not sure what Krymsk ATC is. I could also be 100% wrong and talking into the æther when I use them. It is also entirely possible that the radios aren't set up to the ATC frequency. Then maybe as long as all of the aircraft are set to the same frequency you could at least hear pilots requests? I don't know. Usually the in game comms are pretty dead with the exception of the ground troops. When they are being attacked they broadcast on Channel D(51)/ Square(109/190):
  21. that seems to be exactly the same situation i find myself in more often than not
  22. This situation can already happen with the use of the F11 view. Personally I don't fly for points or ranking (they are nice to have on the side though). I fly to learn and improve. Slack- If there are other ww2 servers that have data export enabled I would love the names of them so I can spend some time in them and learn how to get better against people :) Since we are (at least for now) only dealing with ground targets that have their locations clearly indicated in both the briefing and on radio coms (that even tell you where the enemy are if they are attacking them). I see no additional advantage to be gained from having possible real time situational knowledge, IF it is even possible... is it an internet rumor or is it a legitimate issue? Personally, I think the more skilled WW2 pilots we have the better. As a new player it can get incredibly frustrating to get killed over and over and over by people that have years of experience on me and not have the slightest idea where I made the first wrong move. Tacview isn't going to make their hard earned skills obsolete quickly. I think what it will do is help newer players get their feet wet and get up to speed in months rather than years. I think that would be a good thing for the WW2 community but I am only one voice out of many. I'm not trying to stir the pot! If the decision is no data export and that is final I am 100% ok with that. I just though I would ask
  23. I've been "flying" WWII planes since Their Finest Hour:joystick:. I will concede that the skill set from that game probably doesn't transfer well to DCS hahaha Regarding the P-51 video. It is extremely hard for me to get into this position on player controlled 109's/190's.
  24. Forgive me for bringing this back up but is the main reason for having the data export off to ease the load on the server? If so I totally understand. However, if the main reason is to keep people from exploiting it (I didn't even know that was possible, does it just make it easier to find people?) could it be enabled now that you've made the switch from imposters to labels as I don't see how it could give any advantage if that is all it does. I would absolutely love to be able to watch some of my flights in tacview. Unfortunately that is pretty much impossible with how broken the replays are right now.
  25. agree 100% Thanks eekz
