MIG-15 Mission 7- Getting wrecked by Helos
RocketmanAL replied to RocketmanAL's topic in The Museum Relic Campaign
I did finally manage to get through this mission. I had to be extra patient to let the helos get a committed course before I came in behind them. Very fun mission afterwards! -
So I've been replaying this campaign again and thoroughly enjoy it. Lots of creative missions and top-notch attention to detail. However, I've come again to the mission that caused me to quit playing the campaign originally. That would be the 7th mission of the MIG campaign. Originally it was the AAA and MANPADS that caused me so much frustration that I quit. It takes so long to get to the target area that I got to frustrated with it. This time around I've learned to stay away from those, but now the helos are wrecking me with some Battlefield 4-esque plays. There is one helo that seems to always know when I'm coming in to attack him. Even if I come in from 500m above and behind he always turns around and pitches to look right at me. Then the gunner smacks me with the first burst of cannon from the chaingun and either kills or disables me. Being in VR doesn't help because I can't tell which way he is pointed until he starts shooting. I've tried about 5 times now and haven't figured out a way to get him down without him shooting me first. So I'm not sure if I'm coming here to ask for tips, or nerf, or what really. I'm just frustrated and don't want to do that long flight again without a solid game plan. I've tried coming in behind, from the side, from above, from below. I can't think of much else. Anyone else have trouble with this and come up with a successful plan.

So trying to make a new mission on the PG at the new airfields and I'm unable to spawn helos at some of the new airfields, it just snaps to a nearby airfield. I tried a couple of different modules but didn't do all of them. The MI-8 generally was more restricted it seemed like, probably due to size. There seems to be lack of consistency between modules. Some helos can spawn on-ramp while others can't at the below airfields. So I'm going to just go with what the UH-1 can't spawn into. Helos Can't ramp start Sas Al Nakheel Airport Lavan Island Airport I know that some of these are small and probably can't store some aircraft by design, but Sas Al Nakheel has lots of spots and space. So I don't understand why it's blocked there. All of the above airfields have spawn spots. So wasn't sure if it's still just to "beta" or if it was a bug of some kind.

Frames drops on new 860 EVO SSD.
RocketmanAL replied to RocketmanAL's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's a 6 GB/s cable. Haven't physically swapped out cables, but I doubt that's the issue. Got off the phone with Samsung and was told "Our drive works fine, not our problem." So I guess I'm going to reduce the number of modules installed and see if that helps. -
Frames drops on new 860 EVO SSD.

You're right, I didn't defrag. Just the optimize. I can't seem to find any firmware for the 860 series. Just the 850. Have they not released any yet? -
Frames drops on new 860 EVO SSD.
RocketmanAL replied to RocketmanAL's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I did delete everything except config and missions in the saved games folder. Afterwards the stutter only went down into the 30s, instead of the 20s. I'll try deleting the whole folder. Edit: Deleted the whole Saved Games folder. No fix on the stutter every few seconds. I'm also noticing that I'm getting pretty low FPS in general. For the SU-25T Target practice mission, which I'm using for a baseline, I'm topping out at 30 FPS for default settings. -
So I recently bought a 500 GB 860 EVO to store DCS. I'd previously had it installed on the 256 GB 840 PRO that I also use as a boot drive, but I was running out of space. I play DCS through a Rift headset on a 1080TI GPU. Ever since I transferred DCS I am getting terrible frame drops in game. Going from 45 FPS to the 20s. I tried reinstalling on my C drive and it works fine, no frame drops. I have the settings the same on both versions, they actually pull from my saved games folder on my C drive. I did NOT install all of the many modules that are on the E drive to the C drive. Both SSDs are on Sata 3 6Gb/s port. I tried swapping the port for the 860 but it didn't help. I've also tried reducing settings to the minimum, but no help. Currently the C drive has 108 GB of used space, of which only 49.4 GB are DCS related. My E has 143 GB or space used, of which 134 GB is DCS related. Steps I've taken so far are: Trying another port for the E drive. Reduced game settings. RAPID mode on E Drive. Installing Oculus on E drive. Defragging E drive. Confirmed AHCI settings. Samsung Magician Benchmark 840: Sequential: Read- 557, Write-511 /Random: Read- 79101, Write- 71533 860: Sequential: Read- 3877, Write-4054 /Random: Read- 134521, Write- 67626 Motherboard is Z97 Extreme6. 16GB DDR3 RAM Would appreciate any help I can get figuring out if this is a bad SSD or if I'm missing something.

+1 Also true of the FLIR view. Two of the most enabling functions of the SAMs and neither can be quickly mapped to a HOTAS binding. Why?
-
Can also confirm Caucasus map is missing. I'm really hoping that the kneeboard builder issues can get worked out because in VR it would be really helpful to have the computer codes in there.

Greetings All! We at the 16th AGR would like to invite you to our public server for an afternoon/evening of fun on our server. We have a dynamic 1.5 server that we have put a lot of work into and we want to share the fun around. So if you want to have fun in a full scale conflict server, stop on by! The main event starts at 1600Z, but feel free to drop by anytime during the day. Who are we? We are a group of multi-national DCS players with members all over the world. The 16th AGR is a laid back squad prioritizing fun over everything else. We are celebrating the one year anniversary of our squads formation, and want to share our unique brand of DCS with the community. Open House Details: Search for 16AGR. Our server hosts a fully dynamic Caucasus map with a large selection of aircraft and objectives. All bases and FARPS can be captured, though it will require teamwork to destroy the enemy units there and move your own in. Capturing them will enable your team to spawn their own units there! We have dynamic events such a convoys and bomber strikes to keep you on your toes. Feel free to swap between CAP, CAS, SEAD, sling loading, air defense, and ground commander! Join our Teamspeak channel: ts.16agr.com:9152 Password: 16AGR Join our SRS channel: nullsec.info:5002 If you have any questions, join Teamspeak or find us on our website: http://www.16agr.com As always we are accepting new members. So if you are looking for a squad with an awesome server, squad events, and module training then drop in an application on our website. You can even get your three recommendations from this event! Looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday!

Radio menu ATC options coming up in black
RocketmanAL replied to RocketmanAL's topic in Bugs and Problems
TIL about easy comms. Thanks for the assist! -
When bringing up the radio menu through the \ key all the ATC options come up in black, like the radio is off. However, I have the radio on and can even communicate with the ATC. I've tested it and confirmed that if the radio is off, or changing to the incorrect freq I can't talk to ATC. However, when I have the correct freq, with strong signal on the display, I can talk to them like normal. Options to talk to ground crew and other members of a flight works as intended.

Mission save error, now not detectable by DCS.
RocketmanAL replied to RocketmanAL's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
Here are both logs. I don't think either has the error unfortunately. I restarted my game in hope it would fix it, which would make the old log the one with the error. I then logged in again today, so I think that pushed the error log out. I'll remember to save that next time I have an issue. dcs.log.old.txt dcs.txt -

Here is the mission file. I can't find a .log file from the day of the crash. Do they put all the old logs in another folder? Carrier Mission.miz -
Mission save error, now not detectable by DCS.
RocketmanAL replied to RocketmanAL's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
Actually I can select it to open, even though it doesn't appear. It gives me the same error as when I tried to save it. -
So I was creating a nice in-depth mission (why else would I have a save issue?) and got an error when I tried to save. I'd just run a test and added a couple of units. Then I tried to save and got an error message. Something along the lines of: "Unable to save, unexpected closure. Closed on line XXXX, expected # at line XXXX" Unfortunately the rage was building and I didn't think to screen cap. Then all the the unit name swapped to have "DicUnt_..." instead of the normal title. I tried to open the previous save, but it gave me another error message. I closed out DCS hoping it would fix it. Now DCS won't even show the mission when trying to find it in ME or by playing it. The mission is still in the folder in the directory, DCS just doesn't see it.

Hopefully they will give it a good effort. I'd love to play OPFOR SAMs.
-
I got CA specifically to do the SAMs, so it is what I have focused on. The ones you can control are fun and I enjoyed them, but the commanded ones are to limited. Really all they have to do is add some additional command options and I'd be much happier.
-
Oh I agree, a real life SAM system will require at least 4-5 people who are each responsible for a specific component. If one messes up the whole system will fail. In the interest of simplicity I'm trying to envision a way for a single player to operate one of these multi component systems. The commander is the one person who directs the actions of the crew. We would have a simulated crew taking care of the system operations. The radar screen gui is a relatively easy way to represent his station beyond just the f10 map. Otherwise they will have to model the interior and stations, which I don't see them doing for a module that is relatively unpopular.
-
Well like I said the short range SAMs that are self contained are solid. But you are dependent on the AI for doing the right thing. What if you have two 15s? Will they both try to engage the same missile and waste their missiles on it? What if you have an attack with multiple HARMs, which 15 will engage which missiles? This module could be such much more solid with a few improvements is my point.
-
That's good to know, I hadn't got that far in testing. That's exactly the kind of thing that needs to be an option to the player. Assign a few SA-15's to an SA-17 battery to protect it from HARMs and not worry about aircraft. You can do that now, but it requires to much micro management.
-
So yesterday I purchased the Combined Arms after being interested in it for quite a while. I've always liked RTS and wanted to play as a SAM guy to see how good they are since the SAM AI is pretty poor. I was pretty disappointed with how the SAMs were handled, even after reading all the issues with CA. So I would like to see a reworked long range SAM system. The short range stuff like SA-13, SA-15 is fine for right now. It's mainly the systems with separate radars and multiple launchers. Right now you have very limited control which is basically turn on/off, shoot/hold, and range to engage. No type of target selection, tactics to defeat HARMs, or command and control between units. So what I'd like to see is something replicating the command and control networks that these systems operate with in the real world. The command vehicle is already in game, and it's really the only vehicle that the player needs access to. Add the option to play the commander of a single battery. Either use the default F10 map or have a GUI replicating a radar screen the commander would actually see. Allow the commander to active the radar, assign targets either by priority or to individual launchers, initiate launch, etc. Basically give him much better options for efficiency and to survive SEAD attacks. If you want to take it a level higher, you can assign a sector commander. He has access to a longer range acquisition radar and multiple batteries. This sector commander will assign targets to batteries for targeting. The player will be able to control multiple units, who will engage according to his parameters. Something like this would be very fun for multiplayer I think. Now a true OPFOR can operate SAM units like they would in the field. You can have an entire battlefield of players covering many different areas.
