How to get properly aligned for landing?
artmustel replied to artmustel's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
In my opinion, I would need to master flight controls first because it seems to be my bigger problem with this flight sim. And, for starters, I found flight stick to be way too sensitive; very small movements on the axis yield more plane movement than I pretend. Even if i forget about landing on this mission, just wanting to fly centered over the rw, I don't get it right. That is the reason I've been playing with axis curves, deadzones, even saturation, to no avail. I know my flightstick is not the best but it should be good enough to be able to have a good aircraft control. Flightstick is a TM -T X. I believe it is similar to the Hotas X, just without a separate throttle control. I just bought it to substitute an old Logitech Attack3 hoping that joystick was the cause of these issues. As it seems it was not, then has to be me. As Bleech mentioned, I should try landing patterns, and I will. I need to forget for a while this Final Approach Lochini. But first I need to correct my plane control issues; see if i find any combination that reduces sensitivity or something like that. If someone has this same Joystick, Thrustmaster T-Stick X, and kindly would share its settings with me, I will appreciate it very much. And again, thanks to all that have tried to help! :smilewink: -
How to get properly aligned for landing?
artmustel replied to artmustel's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Thanks to all that responded. Everyone has contributed with something. Hi Blech. Starting from bottom: I have Deadzone 5 in rudder, 3 in axis and pitch. Curve 30 in axis and pitch, 35 in rudder. Now the most interesting, your comment about flight starting "nervous". Yes, it happens not only on this mission but in any mission that starts with the plane on air. Nervous is the word. Trying to get it under control takes me time and makes me more nervous. No idea why this happens but I'm sure its not like it it supposed to be. At what point I am supposed to start diving the plane? I mean in this particular mission. For some reason it starts for me in a deep dive, and besides plane being nervous I need to trim like crazy and all this makes difficult to control it. Thanks for your time and advice. -

How to get properly aligned for landing?
artmustel replied to artmustel's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Hi Blech. On this mission "Final Approach Lochini", details are: wind at ground 1 m/s, 105 degrees at 2000m, 6ms, 101 degrees at 8000m, 15m/s, 153 degrees My hardware is a Intel core I7 processor, Nvidia 670M video and 16gigs of ram, my joystick ia a Thrustmaster T-stick X and I don't have rudder pedals. I will try to record a track and will post it here. OK, I made a track...but no idea how to upload it here...lol...bit more help pls? Thanks! P-51Lochini.trk -
How to get properly aligned for landing?
artmustel replied to artmustel's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I understand what you are trying to tell me, Art-J and Zimmerdilan, but these are missions, like Final Approach to Lochini. that start next to runway and with no rudder trim at all. I am believing that its not the settings nor the joysticks, its just me having difficulties to align plane. For instance if I see runway a bit to my left, I try to correct but them when I put plane horizontal again I see I am way too far to the left. If after several attempts I am centered with threshold, then I am not with the whole rw, but angled. Not to mention that as I try all the above, my plane s acting like a rollercoaster. I hope I'll eventually get this right. I really appreciate your help. -

No, Art-J, i am afraid I don't use ruder trim for other than take-off...never have used it on my landing attempts. Turn indicator...I know where it is, but i really have not used it. The other one you mentioned, slip indicator, i will need to find it (maybe I have seen it but i don't recognize it by its name) what are you telling me is to use rudder trim to keep ball centered after any changes to power or rpm settings, correct? I will try to do that and will report results back... btw, is the "slip indicator" the one shown on manual as "flight indicator"? Thanks a lot. -
How to get properly aligned for landing?
artmustel replied to artmustel's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I don't know if actually this mission has a crosswind component but this issue with alignment happens to me in every mission, training or quick start I try; I just have a really hard time aligning the plane correctly to the runway and I am pretty sure even with no crosswinds. I get close to it but never right, I always see the runway "angled" to some extent in front of me. Good God knew what he was doing when he provided me with a very short sight, which in my youth excluded me of my dreams of becoming a pilot... nevertheless, I'll keep trying here! And thanks for all your help. -
Landing properly continues to evade me. And i have it all wrong. Starting from final approach, I struggle with aligning the plane correctly to the runway; I am always angled and I've read that this is done with rudder but...it is rudder alone or a combination of rudder and ailerons? How is this applied, for instance left rudder plus left aileron at the same time, one first than the other, aileron contrary to rudder? Sorry about asking such an elemental thing but i really need help on this, thanks in advance.

I understand your point, after all DCS stands for Digital Combat Simulator hence commercial planes don't belong here. i was just curious and thought that maybe I could get a yak 40 with the same amazing quality the other planes have here. I don't like FSX much, is xplane 11 better than fsx?
-
I don't want to go to xplane or fsx, I thought this plane would have the same quality as the other DCS planes. Also I am sure developers would not take me asking like a pretext for creating commercial aircraft (although i am pretty sure they'd sell pretty well) :) @Art_J, thanks for your input, now I realize that the yak-40 wouldn't be worth the effort
-
Don't do there if you are concerned about messing with your game configuration, go to C:\users\(your name)\saved games\liveries There you need to create a new folder name; name it SpitfireLFMkIX (exactly like that) and then put the Fargo Express folder in there. It won't mess with your DCS. (although I believe it won't either on the other directory)

Thank you razo+r!

Is the mod something that one can made easily using the mission editor or it is a more complex thing to do? if it is not too complex can someone explain how it is done? Thanks
-
I've seen references to the Yak-40 aircraft but I can't find it on the store. Is it not available anymore or is just used just as an AI plane? for scenery?

Hi all! Sorry if it is too silly to ask this question here but I'd like to know the title of the Spitfire Musical Theme, if anyone knows it. It's so awesome!. Thanks.:)

It's a beauty. Thanks TBear!

I will be following your suggestions Escaner, your help has been great. Also, have my throttle "synchronized" (as blech suggested) eliminated one big headache I was having with this mission: that it started with an absurdly high speed and MP. I am in DCS since last January and just have tried the jets out of curiosity but I really don't like them much so I am spending my DCS time with the WW2 fighters. Thanks!
-
i found the "Synchronize" option! Thanks Blech, now mission starts as it should!
-
Blech, where do you activate "Synchronize Controls on mission start? Habu_69, I don't have multiple devices. also, this mission is final approach, very close to runway. I just can't get it right. If I idle right after starting it as escaner suggested and shows in his video I am unable to get to runway, even trimming. Really I don't understand why this missions starts with 55 of manifold pressure, at least for me it does. Thanks to both!
-
escaner, then I don't know if my setup is bad or I am doing something totally wrong. As you mentioned, mission starts at 190mph...but my manifold pressure starts at 55. and the plane is flying very angled to land. I barely have time to correct pitch to avoid crash, then I try to lower pressure to 30 or under but then since I had to pull nose up speed starts increasing so when I finally get to the runway threshold plane speed is over 200. I am sure I am doing it wrong or those 55 rpm at start and the very angled plane towards land are not like they are supposed to be, probably it is related to my joystick or the else but I cannot reach runway under 200 mph... Thanks, your video is great! Now after watching it I think you are idling from start? I will try that and see if I can reach the strip.
