Is this a totally new thing? Because I've been looking for weeks! I thought for sure Google would have returned this result by now. Great find! And instructions for how to edit the lua files enclosed? Seems almost too good to be true. Long gone are the old days of having to make all this stuff yourself. It is pretty amazing watching the flight sim hobby/obsession finally taking off with all the panels and designs we have to choose from now. We're truly blessed to have all these kinds of things available. If a sim pilot wants to build an F/A-18C cockpit in the house, the biggest obstacle seems to be the significant other.

Well I am sure glad I asked about this! That, sir, is indeed way more of a direct answer than I expected. Wow! I even like the look of it. I mean, it's not terrible, right? Most of their craftsmanship with the box that the projection unit sits in will be hidden, and go unappreciated. Sad, but we'll know what's in there. Best answer.

Ok, even though that's likely true and all, would that be such a poor substitute for otherwise nothing at all? Brightness will be an issue, because it will be a reflection of something meant to be viewed directly, but even one of those small portable projectors that are really hot sellers right now may provide a viable solution to an otherwise dead-end. Just for the sake of argument, I watched this video on my phone and reflected it against a window. It's not a deal breaker for me. I think I'm going to have to try some things myself and report back.

Hello, DCS enthusiasts. I've been searching high and low for days to find someone making a working HUD for the hornet. Wow, am I shocked. I've been to TekCreations, and several other sites that make quite an extensive list of panels, parts, and what have you. There is a HornetSimShop on Etsy that offers the frame with panes of "glass" that one could use as a placeholder, but nothing that really works, you know? I'm trying to make my list of parts to prepare for building a hornet pit, and everyone seems to be missing this unit! DCS has a "hud only" view for it that we need to edit the LUA file to remove the baked in MFDs for, but is it a complexity issue? It's a fairly valuable component if someone were to create it. Lots of people are working around that now. Even with winwings small LCD panels for their front panel may do the job, but I think there's more to it than that. It doesn't need to be a $2k project, just the frame, glass, and a display mirrored and reflected. Am I missing something? Do we have a solution and my intense scouring missed it? If not, someone with a 3d printer and some free time may find themselves a niche market for us.

It is the Taurus. I did an improper calibration and calibrated the gate out of the axis. I got help online and all is well now. Thank you, though. I'm quite impressed with the system.

Aligning AB detent and Throttle Calibration (How to)
Harley replied to MustangSally's topic in Winwing
By that, I assume that yes, cutoff works on these throttles for everyone else. I'm in a club of 1 that nobody wants to join. Ah well. -
Aligning AB detent and Throttle Calibration (How to)
Harley replied to MustangSally's topic in Winwing
So I tried what you are saying, believe me, I thought of that. But the problem I see is that the 1 and 2 buttons in the SimApp Pro program don't even light up anymore. It's like it doesn't know there are cutoff buttons. The throttle will cross the entire band, but the cutoff doesn't register. 2 pictures below. One is at idle, against the stop, and the other is in cutoff. Before I calibrated it, they lit up. After, not anymore. No amount of times I've tried to recalibrate it have brought them back to life, and resetting defaults didn't either. Just looking for ideas for what to try next among those with more experience with this setup. -
I followed the instructions you posted. Also, I think I understand what is happening. It brings up a question. I think there is no actual joy button 1 and 2, and that it is a software detent detected by being in that section of throttle. I may have calibrated that section out of the band. One of these pictures is in idle, against the idle stop. The other picture is in cutoff, and should light up the 1 and 2 block, the joy btn 1 and 2 that DCS is looking for in the settings assigned as Throttle (Left) and (Right) - OFF/IDLE. Joy button 1 and 2 don't illuminate in the SimSApp pro software when in cutoff. Is this true for everyone? Maybe I should try Uninstalling and deleting the simapp pro software and files to restore the initial settings? Is it just me? Does the cutoff gate cutoff the engines for anyone?

Is anybody in here able to correlate the lift into the cutoff gate with the in game cutoff? Meaning, if I calibrated the taurus improperly, I may have missed the cutoff area, and made it an idle function instead. Does the cutoff function on the throttle cutoff the engines in game for you?

Aligning AB detent and Throttle Calibration (How to)
Harley replied to MustangSally's topic in Winwing
I seem to be ok with the afterburner portion of the calibration, but what about the idle cutoff detent? Is there a way to bring the sim throttles into cutoff like the physical levers do? Because that fancy gate with the lifts seems to be a waste if it doesn't function as it should in game. Am I just calibrated wrong? Does this function actually work? -
I will make a point to look at that. That said, is there something perhaps faulty with my calibration to make the 1 and 2 cutoff boxes no longer recognized? If I follow your tutorial, will that function be restored?
-
When in the calibration menu, there are 6 prompts. Click on any one of them, and a dialog appears for what it wants you to do. I followed the instructions. There are 6 axes to calibrate, and I wasn't sure which was which, so I referred to the DCS options menu to see what auto populated. I've seen somewhere in here that it is advised to plug the USB cables directly into the motherboard, so I made sure to do that during the calibration operation. It is now plugged into a USB hub, but the issue remains no matter where it's plugged in. That said, I've been tinkering. It seems as though there isn't a button or switch connected to the fingerlift control before pushing through the idle gate. Nothing registers for it anyway, but it still seems that it should somehow determine the idle stop at the end of the gate, and the cutoff position since the 1 and 2 box did illuminate at one point.

Just had the Super Taurus delivered today. Set it up, and then calibrated it, because it seems like the thing to do. Perhaps I shouldn't have. Before I did, the throttles both detected when placed into idle cutoff. In the SimApp Pro software, at the end of the travel for either throttle, there is a box 1 and 2 that both illuminated when both throttles were put into cutoff. Now, there are green circles that apparently show when you're in idle, and this is presumably in an idle state. Question is, how do we restore the idle cutoff position? The boxes 1 and 2 will no longer show in the "off" position when placed in cutoff. Recalibration did not return this function, and neither did restoring to default config. It looks like the engines will never actually cutoff anymore, when they would have with just the throttle before I went and calibrated it.

VR seems to add a lot to the realism, and as well, I'm sure it also adds new problems should something go wrong. It seems like compromises must be made between visual realism and simplicity. I know that for now, I'll stick with a monitor, because there's just so much we need a keyboard for, even with plenty of buttons and switches available on the HOTAS. We're just not at a good spot yet, but the alternatives for 5 star realism still looks to be full on sim pit, because one still has to look around a lot for dogfighting. Which is more complicated and which is more expensive?

New Squadron Formed -- Mike Force's Team
Harley replied to Mike Force Team's topic in New User Briefing Room
Since you mention new squadron and training, I'm in, if you're still doing this. BTW, I'm Mike as well. We'll get to use clever aviator nicknames! I want to be called potato. I think this will best describe my abilities... Just kidding about the potato part, but the rest was true. -
Warning, long post. I didn't remember at the time, but I joined this forum back in 2008. Wow, how the time flies. Black shark was new. But it's been so long since I've fired up DCS, that indeed I am a noob again. I had FC2 back in 2005, and remember some of the very basics, but nothing that really mattered, it turns out. Still remember how to get killed pretty good, though. So, since this is a pretty new experience, again, I figured I should reintroduce me. Since those days, I put it away, had kids, became an A&P tech for a jet service center, and forgot about the passion I had for this sim platform. I've got way in over my head back into this sim just a few weeks ago. I've played with others, but after reaching cruising altitude, until landing, there's nothing to do but wait. So, I got pretty bored with the other and newest version from a very popular company. Back into DCS all the way. I forgot how much I loved LOMAC. That's when I bought a Saitek x-45 that is definitely showing its age, but still works decent, and I'm using it until some new equipment arrives. Trying to A/A refuel with it though, impossible. So, I went full send, and got the whole Winwing package with the extra panels to use with all the modules I also went full send on. FULL SEND. Because Merica. Trying to learn the F/A-18C, because I always thought it should have been there. Complicated bird, but that's the one I want for everything it does. This platform is so good. Man, a guy could really do the credit card a number with it. So good, though. So, before you know it, I'll have all this super complicated gear to get lost in, and I'll still be the first and perhaps only noob KIA on any mission I'll join. If anyone ever gets a friendly radar lock, it's probably me. I'm trying to figure this thing out still, take it easy. For now, I'll keep to the single player tasks so I know WTH to do with this thing. From an oldcomer, Mike

Thank you! Anybody care to guess what I voted for? I'll give you some time to think...

F/A-18C! That way, if there ever is a way to merge Black Shark and LOMAC, there will be an American carrier-based fighter. I like the E and F model, but they are still somewhat secret... Even if merging is never possible, I would still like to see this jet. The russians have a naval presence, I think it should be even, at least as far as roles are concerned.
-
Flyable stuff Will there be a dang F/A-18A or C to launch off carriers with? It seems that the only carrier-based jets have to be russian. What does the other team have to counter this? If there is an AH-64 for balance, do the same for the Su-33. That is one awesome jet, but I do also like the hornet! I wish I'd get an answer one way or the other for this question...

Everyone turn the dang user account control "off". Prollem solved. Friggin vista.
-
I discovered something! When one does have user account control on, the 1.00, 1.1, and 1.12B patch doesn't ask for permission to install until after the install appears complete. I closed the 1.12B installer after an install failure message, and the dang "cancel/allow" prompt was beind it! Eureka! Thank you! I just got done playing the thing at 100+ fps! Over water, over 200! Holy moly it looks even better than I remember! *sniff* It brings a tear of joy to my eyes! Thank you again.

Doesn't the 1.1 gold edition come with the 1.00 original, and 1.1 FC?
