  1. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/pilot-killed-in-first-iaf-sukhoi-crash-checks-ordered-on-fleet/453293/ They suspect a structural fault. The killed pilot was hit by debris apparently.
  2. Those various rifles being shown there, are those some licensed versions of Heckler&Kock rifles?
  3. Alt-W Launch permission override (for RF aircrafts) 1.02 Launch it before target is in range. The point is, that the bogey won't go defensive as he doesn't get a launch warning. Obviously only works, if the bogey keeps closing in to you. But using this will make people hate you. :p
  4. Yes most likely they are. But so are radars, RWRs and alot of other things. Surely the RAND corp had an agenda, but I doubt they simply invented those numbers. And while there are reasons for the low amount of actual launches one thing remains: the targets could have been 6 Learjets and the missile wouldn't look particularly overwhelming. True, one cannot draw the conclusion that the AMRAAM would suck equally in a full fledged combat against even forces. Though I don't understand how some do draw the opposite conclusion. This has nothing to do with "my missile is better than yours" or whatever. Just saying, that maybe BVR is overrated especially amongst those who think "their team" has an advantage in it. This goes for both sides I guess.
  5. See page 25 of this document and draw conclusions about BVR effectiveness. Anything but "proven to work well". If you're optimistic you could say there's at least hope it will work if sh!t hits the fan. Maybe ED should be and is actually considering this? Must be quite difficult to balance stuff correctly. Anyways, some missiles behavior is indeed unrealistic. Hope it will be better in DCS once there are fighters available.
  6. I always thought most civil aviation accidents are caused by bad maintenance. Basically someone doing sloppy work. I'd suppose this is the same for military aviation. We'll learn what happened with the Indian Su-30 sooner or later. No point in making presumptions.
  7. 1. The ability to do extremely high G maneuvers is usually unneeded. For a good shot you try to avoid it, because it costs a lot of energy which is limited for every missile. To actually see the R77, or any missile for that matter, doing some 20 G you'd probably have to set up a launch, that is rather unlikely in real fights. 2. This is hard to tell. Try to avoid missiles by CM only without maneuvering or using any "cheat" against radar bugs. You'll notice, that they aren't extremely effective really. No idea though how it is in real life. 3. The AI is retarded and über at once. They always know where everything is, including heaters launched at their six. But they aren't applying any logic to their flying and fighting. And I've never seen the AI engaging multiple targets simultaneously ever. Neither the F15/F16 nor any other fighter. They only care for their primary. 4. missile effectiveness cheers
  8. Don't over-stretch the good man! It would be a shame if he burned out. Think 3drealms way: it's done when it's done. ;)
  9. No need to exaggerate! It's not only the root of all problems, but also the solution. :drink::drunk::beer: :D
  10. Wait a year or two and it will be a freebie in some random gaming magazine.
  11. Some of this information sounds incredible. The guy did his first ever flight with that aircraft and manages to pull a tailslide? Just wow..
  12. Don't they at least publish the probable cause? They've got to have one at least. Otherwise it would be pretty risky to do sorties with the other units. Or is this suspicion just classified?
  13. Interesting though, that the 30MKI is also quoted with a price tag of some $37 million. Somewhere I read, that the 24-36 Su-35BM ordered by the Russian airforce are a special version "for inner use". I suspect some of the avionics are different to those in export versions.
  14. In that Boeing video about the Red Flag exercise 07 (?) you can see a female F-15 pilot. Slowly but steadily women get into those cockpits. If they perform as their male counterparts I welcome it.
  15. I usually quit LOFC after having flown the RamGen mission. If everything goes well the log book has the correct data and RamGen can debrief correctly. Though there are a couple of problems. For example if I record tracks of the mission the log book seems to be broken. It shows the mission result, but the file name/mission name is not shown and thus RamGen doesn't export the data. It just doesn't recognize it. And if you forget to revive a pilot the log book wont record the progress either.
  16. I see. Very beautiful. Will search it asap.
  17. The first skin of your Flanker looks awesome, sukufu. Is that a 3GO compatible skin? And if so, where can I download it? :)
  18. For the F-15 you can also try to use the markers at the bottom of the tanker. There are two of them and they do show you, if your altitude and speed (or relative position?!) are correct respectively which way to proceed. Unfortunately I don't know if it is explained in handbook and I cannot properly explain it myself. Just remember it from another flight sim, F-22 ADF or something. But those markers are fairly easy to understand. Just try cruising below the tanker a while and you'll get the point.
  19. I have been using Google Earth tonight and found out, that you can actually see some 20+ Raptors on parking at Langley AFB. ( 37° 4'54.03"N / 76°21'7.07"W ) That's funny. I always thought they were "hiding" this stuff in public media like that. Look at the airports in Sevastopol or Ramstein for example. There the pictures got edited most certainly.
  20. I think it's safe to say the stolen data will be used in one or another way. No-one would do something like that without the intention of at least selling the data to someone who might need/utilize it. That being said, any speculation about who took it or which data was compromised is pointless. According to the article they don't even know yet which data was taken. They're quickly accusing Chinese sources, of course. But that's questionable imo. Such a hack can be done by anybody with enough skills and criminal intend. Laying a trail to China ensures guaranteed finger pointing.
  21. As you mention the HUD, I seem to fail spotting the G-meter. I thought this would be shown in HUD for US aircraft. Or isn't it?
  22. I bet every single USAF pilot has been training WVR engagements and I also bet none of them has a completely clean sheet. That's just a totally unrealistic thing to expect, no matter which plane they're in.
  23. At 3 miles/second (wtf, lol, that's about 10k miles/hour) the missile would still need about 700 seconds (or 12 minutes) of full thrust to burn through 2200 miles. Something is really messed up with these numbers. ;)
  24. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124027491029837401.html Several terabytes of sensitive data have been stolen in a computer hack. :shocking:
