Was already wondering if you maybe meant something like the boardnumber of the last one. :P

Even if it was true, the guy must be stupid. If he was such an idealist he should have sued LM 13 years ago. Because now the US have spent the money and there's no real way back. What's his point?

Well, Jedi are better than Sith if the "Revenge of the Jedi" is of any measure. Still people love to play Sith in Star Wars games. Same thing kinda applies to simulations. For the player it doesn't really matter so much which plane is better in reality. Hell, nobody really knows, because reality is more complex than a virtual dogfight. As for me, I love flying those Russian birds. I'd also like to fly an Eurofighter, a Gripen or even a Super Tucano. I know American birds are good, but I am not really interested in flying them in a simulation.

Ugly as hell vs beautiful (aircraft photos)
Wilde replied to topol-m's topic in Military and Aviation
Yeah something like that probably. Search results for 'Lavi' list a few more pics of it from other angles. According to picture description it was a testbed for Lavi's radar indeed. There's a youtube clip showing that beast "landing". It got what it deserved for it's ugliness. -

I found it some day when searching airliners.net for Israel's Lavi. I don't know it's purpose though. -

Well, for those two I like it. But for others I agree. Typhoon, F-16 for example are not exactly pleasing the eye in two-seater versions. Btw, it's the Mig-35 in that picture as it states below the canopy. ;) -

Beautiful: Also the F-14 was flown with black livery by some squad or at least for some air-shows. That looked awesome too, but I can't find a decent pic. And I think I remember having seen various shots of different planes in a special "tiger meet livery". Most of them are very beautiful too. Ugly: Like why?! Also the Nimrod is ugly. And I dislike every freaking stealth design. I don't care if it's German, American or Russian. It sucks. edit: because I fail at linking pictures properly. -
Indeed, it was Namenlos in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=41281 Maybe further talk about it should be done there, so that this nice thread doesn't get disrupted too much. :hehe:

Btw the current release is messing up 3GO's Flanker model. It places the Flanker pilot further in the back and thus puts some of the 3D-objects in cockpit view in the wrong places.

Hehe, actually the AI uses 70% as idle RPM. You can see it, when you fly faster and higher than the flight plan wants you to. Simply activate autopilot and watch the computer set throttle to 70% while the plane decelerates. Funny stuff. Cool video though. Those guys have put in quite some effort to restore the beauty. The buttons look like it has been produced with those. Impressive. fake-edit: By the way, yes, it seems to be the one that was imported to the US 2 years ago. It is currently up for sale. There are a lot of things not in LOFC, that could have been in it. As there are Su-30s in it the timeframe would allow for quite some stuff. For example the F-15 radar modeled in game apparently is the original one. It wasn't even built anymore when Su-30 started flying. But of course it was in service in about a thousand aircrafts or so. I think ED got it ok'ish the way it is.

Nice model! Looks really good. Unfortunately it's a replacement for the F-15 which makes it more or less unusable. American avionics make no sense to me.

Neverending contest (military aviation knowledge)

Hm, the seat, the bank indicator and that little red warning label between the pilots legs look Japanese to me. So I was going to say some variant/evolution of the Zero or the George/Rex? Although the hint "almost 300 built" confuses me even more than the pic, lol. -
Haha, same for me. Well almost. I tried the F-15, but it sucked. Or I did. I will not buy DCS unless I get to fly a pretty Mig or Su. So this means I will not buy it before 2011 as it looks now. Maybe I would buy it to fly a properly modeled Eurofighter. But I can't see ED releasing such a module anytime soon.

Yesterday an Ecuadorian air force helicopter crashed during an airshow in Quito, Ecuador. The pilot and his copilot were injured and nobody else was harmed. The vessel apparently was an Indian made Dhruv helicopter. http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=346253&CategoryId=14089

This pretty much. Made me quit HL too. Lots of stupid stuff happening and the general attitude of many pilots is like what I have only seen on Quake servers like 10 years ago. About Tacview, indeed it can record completely incorrect stuff occasionally. The weirdest thing I have seen was my missile missing the bogey in Tacview although it hit in game. In that particular Tacview track both the missile and the bogey just kept on flying whereas in game both exploded right there. I have no idea where Tacview took the data for that from. After seeing this I don't take anything for granted anymore in Tacview.
-
Because a missile can maneuver only at higher speeds. The reason are it's small control surfaces. Especially an off boresight shot requires very high maneuverability.

Which I don't. I stated in my first and second posts in this thread, that I don't endorse bombing them. It's just wrong on every level, morally, strategically, financially or whatever.
-
Well, because that's not a point. You always have a choice. It looks like you are trying to avoid what was said really. Nobody is blaming them in way like "it was there own fault". Just that they weren't angels when stealing despite being told not to by their eld, wiser family members. Please don't spin that into something I didn't say.
-
I don't think anyone really argues this way. It's more like they were well aware that it was a NATO truck stolen by the Taliban. They knew it was a bad idea to go loot off it. And if they did they were not as innocent as some people claim. However, bombing them as it was done was not exactly subtle. I think in hindsight they'd do it differently too.

Interesting read. Although it's a little hard to follow even for someone, who has been playing Eve Online for a couple of years. Of course it's purely fiction but it gives some good ideas about the motivations for insurgents to fight their oppressors. Somehow even the Star Wars plot fits as a comparison for Afghanistan. It's only a matter of perspective. From theirs (the insurgents') we would be the evil empire. That being said, I need to log in again and give those damned Minmatar RP'ers a nice beating. :D

Neverending contest (military aviation knowledge)

Seeing the size of the building there and the trees in front of the parking bay I'd say it's the IL-46. -
Some nice pics and stuff in there. What intrigued me was slide 33 showing usable weapons. Quite an arsenal it can choose from (those external tanks look freaky, are they new?) but only 4 A2A missiles: 120 B/C , 9X and ASRAAM. Is this very old information? Or very conservative/reserved? Many F-35 fans always claimed that the units in service would carry 120D. It's a bit strange, that so many projected subsystems are mentioned, but not the most important weapon as claimed by many fans. And that last slide had me thinking they were kinda crash-testing it there at first glance. Had a brief WTF moment there. ;)

So another Ikarus that got grounded? :P Interestingly enough there is a Romanian bus factory called Ikarus. Their buses were pretty common in Eastern Germany until after the first years of our reunification. Gotta look up their history sometime to find out if they have a aviation record too. ;) About the riddle I'd say it's a British seaplane. Probably older than the girl's grandfathers. ;)
