  1. I didn't realize it would be this complex. Something for me to do today.
  2. Looks like i'm not the one actually get worked up over it.
  3. Don't bunch ArmA 2 in with actual sims please.
  4. I have two monitors, and from what I am getting from the options menu, this game is really meant to be played with 3 monitors? Is there a config file I can edit, or a guide somewhere on the forums that explains how to setup Black Shark for two monitors? I did a search on the forums, and I didn't find anything. That doesn't mean a thread doesn't exist, just that the multiple searches I did turned up no results. I also read the FAQ, and found something in there about helping users set up dual monitors, with a link to a file to download, however the link was no longer valid.
  5. No, it is very much a sim, just not the kind that most players are use to. Which is why so many find it very confusing. It is on their list of modules to make, but it isn't next on their list by a long shot. Anyone remember Janes Combat Simulations Longbow 2? It simulated the AH-64 very well and was a sim that was way ahead of its time.
  6. And? Go on... What option is it that you are referring to? Black Shark is just a poorly optimized game. I have a very powerful system, and sometimes the frame rate slows to a crawl, you just learn to deal with it. A lot of it has to do with the fact that the game is simulating a lot at once. This is a very CPU intensive game because of all of the AI that it has to keep track of, on a huge battlefield. If you have a 64bit CPU though, which you do, you really should be on Vista 64bit anyways, to get the most out of your PC, even if you won't get the most out of Black Shark.
  7. I was afraid that would be the case. Ooh well, no big deal, it is just a minor annoyance. All I wanted was the radar turned off because its so big, and I never look at it.
  8. Yeah that doesn't really help me. I know about that option, but I really don't want to play the game like that. I'm not really into playing with those kinda realism settings because I don't even have a joystick, nor can I even figure out how to make the helicopter take off while in realism mode.
  9. What I would like is more power over what is and isn't enabled then what the options menu gives. For example, one of the things I would like to turn off is the radar, that is enabled through easy avionics. But I would like to keep the other arcade settings that easy avionics enables. Are there any files I can mess with? I didn't see anything however, but I am hoping someone who has more experience with this stuff can help me out here. :book:
  10. If that is true, then that means you pretty much have to fly as Russian for the campaigns, because they are almost all american as the enemy. I hope DCS changes this in a future patch. That would explain my problems, because i've been flying as american.
  11. When you kill a friendly target, none of your kills are counted after the mission ends. I've been getting penalized for this quite a bit, and its frustrating because I know for a fact that I am not killing any friendly targets. I've been really careful about that, and yet time and time again, after a mission ends, it'll say that i've committed fratricide and won't count all of the kills i've made. I'm of the opinion that this is a bug, but would like to be proven wrong. I've looked at the after combat briefings very carefully everytime, and they never show anything about me having killed any friendly targets.
  12. Okay well i'm still looking for help with my second question. I've tried finding the answer on my own, and am coming up with nothing.
  13. You didn't answer my question, at all. I know what the keys are, but I don't understand how they work. It is a bit more involved then just simply pressing some keys. If you just do that, they do absolutely nothing. Your helicopter must be going a certain speed, and have a certain altitude for those two keys to work correctly. What I wanted, was for someone to explain in finer detail exactly how to get hovering to work correctly. leafer answered my question pretty much. Now it is just a matter of going back and applying what he said, and continuing to practice. I still need my second question answered.
  14. Two things that I am not understanding; 1.) I can't figure out how to make my copter hover into place very well. I can do it with some struggle, but it takes way to long and even with game mode enabled I am having trouble controlling my aircraft. I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips? Please be specific though, and use keyboard references. 1-a.) What does the hover key (H) do, and how does it work? When I press it, it doesn't seem to do anything at all. I guess I don't actually understand its purpose, and was wondering if someone could explain. 2.) While in game mode, I am having trouble quickly targeting the ground vehicles I want to attack. Using the (N) key, the game always seems to want to cycle through a dozen targets that are no where close to where I am, and are way off my screen. Can someone please explain an easier, more effective way to quickly target what I want? This is stuff that I have been trying to look up in the manuals and online, but its either written for simulation mode, or just doesn't make sense to me right now. I am hoping someone could spell it out in laymen terms. :joystick:
  15. The FAQ specifically says that flying with all of the autopilots off is actually not realistic at all, because the real world pilots in normal circumstances have to fly with it on. So I leave it on. But of course it is a sim so you can fly how you want, but i've read that you pick up pretty bad flying habits in the process. Black Shark is meant to be flown like a training simulation if you are wanting to do the most realistic settings. If you wouldn't fly it like you would in real life, then you wouldn't want to fly it any differently in the sim.
  16. What games are you talking about? I've never heard of steam requiring that you haul your computer around if you want to install it on another computer. But you really aren't that clear. Yeah but the people who might want to buy Black Shark (That's who we are talking about, we are all well aware that Eagle knows about the copy protection they are using... I hope) do not know the pros and cons of Black Sharks copy protection and a lot of people still remember when Starforce was pretty intrusive on peoples PCs. Letting people know that there is nothing to worry about now and why would be a good idea.
  17. Yes this has Starforce, but its not the Starforce you remember, that would install drivers on your computer without your permission, and break DVD drives and disable certain software. That version of Starforce is long gone. Its instead replaced with a online activation mode that allows for limited installs (7 for this game). So its not as bad as the original starforce.
  18. Again, it is not Amazon letting you down. They can't produce manuals out of thin air, they have to receive more copies from ED.
  19. My understanding of this is that it is not up to Amazon (nor do they know) when they receive new copies of the printed manual. It is up to who ever publishes the manual to produce new copies. You can still buy the printed manual from the ED website though. Just do that if you want it badly enough.
  20. I was going to say "what is wrong with just buying from the eagle dynamics website?" But then I went and looked at the shipping costs, and it is $18. :o
  21. I noticed the FAQ says that the Eagle Dynamics website does not allow for paused downloads and you need to obtain the whole thing at once. How come ED doesn't just set up a torrent server that only users who purchased the game can download from? It will allow users to pause and continue their downloads whenever they want, and users will be able to share the files, which in theory will make the download go faster.
  22. The copy protection means very little to me. I mean if registering the game to play it meant I had to let Eagle Dynamics kill my dog, I would probably allow it. Okay that is a bit extreme, but you get the point. I've been waiting way to long to just say "forget it" to Black Shark now, because of the copy protection. In most cases I would care, but not for this.
  23. The Russian players who do have it have the DVD version is how I understand it. Just gotta hope we have a few english speaking Russian players come in here and give us the low down.
  24. Where can we buy the Russian retail DVD and have it imported?
