  1. Head tracking is good, however you achieve it.
  2. Guys, guys, do some research before making wild generalizations. Please read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeTrack FreeTrack has its own interface, plus works with SimConnect and FSUIPC and can emulate mouse, keyboard and joystick (better than TrackIR can). From both a legal and ethical perspective, interfaces are there to be used by everyone, to prevent false monopolies such as this. If you're running an "IBM compatible" computer you should be well aware of this. FreeTrack can use the Nintendo Wii Remote camera which runs at 100fps and uses less CPU than TrackIR. As well as the Playstation Eye camera that runs at up to 120fps. Data is output at 120fps for a 30fps camera, so smoothness is not an issue, only responsiveness. And high responsiveness is not essential for head tracking, especially in flight sims. FreeTrack tried to support TrackIR hardware, effectively helping NaturalPoint, but they wouldn't allow it.
  3. @ ryuzu 1. A view control interface is very basic, receiving six numbers, nothing fancy or mysterious. 2. Mouse/keyboard/joystick controls use common open standards, view control can be the same. 3. Game developers implement support for free, there is no licensing fee, no money is exchanged, they could just as easily be implementing an open interface that everyone can use. 4. Game developers want maximum compatibility with computer hardware. 5. Users want to be able to use any hardware they have. There is no 'denial of revenue' or 'leeching', just fair competition like in any other market.

  5. I had a Trackir 4 but the base broke off and I had to use blu tack to hold it in place. It ran really hot and I wasn't surprised when it finally died just outside of warranty. Once bitten...
  6. Which excludes TrackIR 1 and 2. You guys have got balls, I give you that much. You fight against developers, third parties and even your own users then you act all innocent. :wassat:
  7. So will DCS work with Saitek joysticks? Or only Thrustmaster? Can I use a Logitech mouse? Or only Microsoft? :glare:
  8. Simple solution is for ED to tell TrackIR where they can stick their interface and use an open interface exclusively. The FSX developers did this.
  9. Will the demo be starforced?
  10. Don't get confused guys. The sticky only relates to non-TrackIR head tracking solutions, like FreeTrack.
  11. wiimote uses less cpu than trackir :P if you've got cpu to spare definitely go for the ps3 eye, otherwise stick to wiimote

  13. as long as it's not anti-competitive...
  14. "Black Shark uses a new method for interfacing with the TrackIR, this requires version 4.1.036 of the TrackIR software. We are always working to improve the software and how it interfaces with games. TrackIR 2 models are supported by the 3.x software which was the current version available when they were shipping, they are not compatible with the 4.x software. I believe the 3.x software has been able to take advantage of a number of titles released over the last couple years though." http://forum.naturalpoint.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=33152#Post33152 i find 'we are always working to improve the software and how it interfaces with games' part pretty amusing considering they are doing the opposite. fsx developers made simconnect, open interface anyone can use, it was naturalpoint's decision to only support it in v4 software. naturalpoint would argue that if the developers had used the trackir interface it would automatically be compatible with trackir1/2, which is true, BUT, it was naturalpont's decision to make trackir1/2 incompatible with v4 trackir software in the first place and not to update it anymore. fsx developers did the right thing.
  15. naturalpoint are encrypting the tracking data now, for new trackir games. so that means no direct freetrack support and no trackir1/2 support. ppjoy can be used as an alternative until someone hacks it. i don't understand why developers are being forced to use an encrypted trackir interface because freetrack has its own interface and it supports trackir as well. the very idea of an encrypted interface in a flightsim is absurd, even microsoft uses an open interface (simconnect). PS microsoft has nothing to do with trackir support in fsx, naturalpoint only added support for fsx in their latest software which doesn't work with trackir1/2
  16. did someone mention recession? everyone panic! drop prices! :helpsmilie:
  17. i bet this is because of the recession, people are too scared to spend money on toys trackir hardware can use freetrack btw
