would say it is a CPU bottleneck... to the point that your gpu is waiting on the cpu to prepare frames..
-
cool... did you switch it on via graphics.lua or what??
-
could probably maxx out most settings except terrain shadows if you limit your refresh rate to 60hz... maybe more.. terrain shadows are the biggest load as far as i can tell.. not sure how well the 1080 or th 6700k will do at cranking out 165hz of 2560x1440 DCS though..

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience

works perfectly with OvGME... actually, never hasn't worked perfectly with OvGME.. -
turn terrain shadows to flat.... Cockpit shadows to high... should not affect GPU very much at all... terrain shadows are the ones that will likely kill your performance.

Framerate Stutters/Pauses - Possibly solved..

...or stick a couple bricks of dry ice in your fan ducts:joystick: -
Just freaking set the Shadows.lua to 8192 for the high setting and let it pass IC..... pleeeeaaaase!!!!:pilotfly:
-
welp... that fixed it!...

thanks BIGNEWY... doesn't seem to write a .zip log so here is the .txt log.. dcs_log.txt

every time i land a SU-33 at Batumi and a few other airfields, DCS crashes to Desktop or get stuck on blackscreen the second the wheels touch the runway... anyone else having issues???
-
got it fixed... for whatever reason, i had to disable the module, restart DCS... enable the module, restart dcs.... and all is working fine now.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience

hmm... seems to be causing me some CTD issues... performance is great and looks great, but crashing to desktop while flying often when in a dive for some reason... couple flickers here and there too. -
So... im all updated on the latest Open Beta... ran a repair... but my F-15C module wont let me fly for some reason.. all other modules work but the F-15C just lands me in a map view of the mission playing out and AI flying the F-15 im supposed to be flying... quadruple checked that Skill Level is set to player in mission editor.... sooo... any ideas???

DCS Performance, FPS Drops and Stuttering
DflippinK replied to betatrash's topic in Game Performance Bugs
good to know.... was considering updating to check for any performance gains, but decided to go to bed instead... still runnin like a champ with 390.77 over here... Lol..:pilotfly: -
Excellent!!... glad you're back up and runnin!!
-
there is also an odd circumstance that has been noted in the past, that PG map uses an additional core compared to Caucus Map and runs it pretty hard... havent seen any explanation for it... but it does seem to still run that way...
-
Haha!!... noticed that too.... silence... runnin like a champ for me.
-
Absolutely SICK!!!!.... in love with this mod... the wobbles take a bit to get used to.. but aside from that, INSANELY FUN!!!.. thank you CubanAce!!!

solid advise here ^^^^... watch out for core saturation... if DCS is putting too much on the primary core by default,... it will be hell with stutters on heavy missions... While many will argue that you need a faster cpu (which is always a good thing), what you need to watch out for is how you are utilizing the cpu you have... on some systems, DCS will run on one primary core for simulation and one for audio... if that is the case on your system, that primary core is likely to get over saturated inducing stutter and hangs... to remedy this, you need to split the core affinity to spread the load... I dedicate 6 cores to DCS.. at only 3.7ghz (no OC)... and have it locked at 60fps.. with the primary core split, none of the cores ever even come close to full saturation... DCS does of course respond differently with every hardware configuration..

[REPORTED]Shadows in cockpit projected in the wrong direction
DflippinK replied to Redglyph's topic in 2D Video Bugs
yep... this should be fixed... been like this for months... cockpit shadows have holes in them... no good.... also should allow modification of shadows.lua to pass ic with res set to 8192 and 16384.. -

DflippinK replied to mehksauce's topic in Game Performance Bugs
if you can, drop cockpit resolution from 1024 Every frame.. to just 1024... also, cockpit global illumination off will give you a bit more headroom..and additionally, you can put both Terrain shadows and Shadows to flat... should free up your card quite a bit... -

ok... i was probably over-optimistic for the 1060 6g.. but, this suprises me... there are a LOT of factors that can destroy performance... but i upgraded from a 1080 which handled these settings just fine @1440p... if you can monitor your GPU load while flying, it is good practice to aim for about 75% to leave yourself headroom for large graphic instances... this becomes pretty much unachievable when you attempt to chase fps.. Vsync@60hz is key for setting the load baseline... @1920x1080, you should have no problem rendering frames,.... unless you do for some reason "ex. oversaturated primary core".... it has been a while since ive had the 1080 in my machine, and i have noticed some variations in performance in DCS,.. but nothing too significant... of course,... there is always, aside from a myriad of configurable settings to choose from, a myriad of hardware and software glitches, conflicts, and incompatibilities.. and general maintenance tasks.. DCS does seem to like to be thoroughly configured to get the best out of your hardware.. just have to sometimes bend your brain or trial&error to find a good solution.. sorry for my potential and likely probable misquote of settings for the 1060 6g... if it doesnt work well,.. set ALL Shadows Flat Water Med Visibility High or Med MSAA x2 or OFF Drop the Trees Visibility slider to the midrange Also... Always make a habit of routinely clearing out the contents of: C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\fxo C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\metashaders2 ..with any updates of DCS, Nvidia Drivers, Mods, and ever so often with Graphics Settings adjustments... meant to help... sorry if i didnt... was very sleepy.:joystick: -

you should be fine!!! lock it with vsync @ 60hz if you can get your R1600 to around 3.7ghz (should be a piece of cake), and spread evenly across a few cores, you will never have to think about it again... probably fine stock anyways though.. For GPU, i think you'll be able to get away with most everything... Shadows can be taxing, so run them Flat... Try somethin like this... and maybe use the SSAA instead of MSAA.. test it out and adjust how you want it, but i think that ought to run pretty nice for ya. -
