  1. Last night I found a Thrustmaster Warthog's afterburner detent from a creator on Shapeways. It was for sale for £10. I thought great! For a tenner I'll bag that as it's probably free delivery too. Wrong! Went out to the checkout and the total came to almost £20 by the time it added VAT and a whooping '£6.40' delivery charge! Fook that I thought! I went into the garage grabbed my modelling knife and some 1200 sandpaper and modified the existing detent. It works great! The moral being don't pay these ripoff merchants silly money for a push through 3D printed afterburner detent - modify the orignal part. This is what the detent looks like after the modification:
  2. Errr.... No. I'm ex-military and you'll be surprised how many 'older' people claim to have served only to be busted. I know an ex-soldier when I see and speak to one and I know a Walter. I've seen people in the US mooching around in military valour pretending to have served in war zones only to be busted by vets who have served and who know their sh#t. These people are fantasists of all ages. This isn't exclusively an age related behavior.
  3. :megalol:
  4. Seriously, all the fantasists on the coms in missions claiming to have been real life fighter pilots need to stop it. It's embarrassing. It takes like seconds for those of us who are let's just say saavy to know when we're speaking to real life fighter pilots and those who are Walters. I'm sure the fantasists know all there is to know about the aircraft they're claiming to have flown, but they'll always be caught out by someone who know their stuff on the aircraft's history. From the mere intonnation of their voice you know when you're talking to a Walter. Please, do not claim to have driven a fighter aircraft in life if you haven't because no matter how much you think you know about the aircraft you'll be busted in the end. Enjoy the sim and be grafeful to have the opportunity to experience as close as it gets to how it feels to drive the aircraft you drool over. This isn't a post to name and shame, but merely some friendly advice to save 'everyone' from embarrassment.
  5. I just bought the KA-50 so you can flip another nickle into the electricity metre Wags :smilewink: That's yet another aircraft I've bought that'll be instantly mothballed because the Hornet so damn awesome! But hey, when the Syrian map is released... :D
  6. Cheers. I'm unsure why the devs haven't released a mini-patch though to address the memory implementation. It surely mustn't be that much work to implement. I'm guessing they're strictly sticking to a priority list of updates.
  7. Thank you. I just tried that workaround and it worked great.
  8. That's like asking "why are smackheads paying their dealers for crack" Seriously though, personally I'm an immersion freak and the more detailed, realistic and immersive some thing is in DCS the better and all the worth while paying for. When the supercarrier is released I along with many others won't be able to get our wallets out quick enough! I have no issue with paying for modules etc. in DCS because the enjoyment DCS brings me is just unmatched by any other sim/game. The experience, immersion and learning curve is just incredible! Looking at the supercarrier's trailer, one can only imagine how much painstaking work the devs have put into the project.
  9. I've been trying to find out if we're able to return the TGP's FLIR camera back to the last targetted point that we marked with the TDC depress. The JDAM's coordinates are logged in the MSN page and we've got the marked location on the hud, but I cannot find a way or returning the FLIR back to the targetted point. This is annoying because once you've used the cage/uncage button to reset the FLIR's view there's no way I can seem to automatically return the FLIR back to the targetted point. Am I right in believing this feature has not yet been implemented? I've watched both Waggs' and Redkite's videos on the TGP and Redkite menioned 'memory mode' being bound to the sensor control switch depress, although not yet implemented. Is this the function I'm looking for?
  10. I'm in the process of creating a realistic mission in the Caucasus region. Howsever, when placing down SAM sites I'm unaware of international law and if a country is allowed to shoot down enemy aircraft in interational waters. AFAIK a country has jurisdiction of 12 miles beyond their shoreline and beyond that it becomes international waters. So, if a country shoots down an enemy aircraft which is flying over international water am I right in believing that it is tantamount to a war crime? If so it'll assist me on where I can place SAM sites and where I can have tankers safely refuel allied aircraft.
  11. After a lot of testing I've discovered the wind factor is what throws the helicopter's ETA to waypoints. I've found that having a 9 knot headwind and a travelling speed of 20 knots yields the most accurate results. The plane guards seems to creep forwards when it momentarily dips in altitude. I've positioned my plane guard at the realistic min distance of 1500ft/300yd portside close to the carrier's stern. Although it continues to creep forwards it's incredibly slowly. After a 4 mission I anticipate the pane guard wouild have travelled aligned to the carrier's bow. Hope this helps.
  12. I've inserted Stennis along with the static objects and clients to follow a waypoint. I've also inserted other ships as an escort. I've set the speed to 20 knots and a headwind of 13 knots to give 33 knots over the deck. Of course, to add realism I've also added a SH-60B as a plane guard. However, even though I've set the plane guard's speed the same as the carrier's the SH-60B slowly continues to creep ahead of the carrier. An hour into the mission and the helicopter is way ahead of the carrier. Is their any solution to this?
  13. I hope mission designers have asked for a DLTR function. Also filters and the ability to change the parameters for a selected list of groups.
  14. What additional features do you consider a must and would you recommend the devs add to the mission editor? What added feature(s) would make mission creation less laborious? We definitely need the undo/redo option and mouse drag/select, but what else would you recommend to the devs?
  15. Being an immersion freak I was wondering what with the planned release of the Syrian terrain whether ED plans to release an assets pack based on the Syrian conflict. I'd really like to see an assets pack released featuring all the factions that have been fighting in Syria. It could make some really immersive missions. Also, it would be great to have some foot soldiers/rebels/insurgents/terrorist. I think this kind of package would sell like hot cakes.
  16. I have both an Odyssey + and an Alienware 3440x1440 @120Hz curved 34 display. There's absolutely no doubt that VR is a lot more immersive, but I'm wondering if anyone has chosen their ultrawide monitor with TrackIR over VR because of the crisp clarity and better performance. Is the consensus once you go VR there's no going back to the monitor? Or do some people still prefer their monitor with TrackIR over their VR HMD for better clarity and performance?
  17. I've paid a lot for my build. But €200 a replacement stick grip merely to make the Hornet's feel more authentic, well... frankly I feel insulted. I think they've grossly overestimated DCS' community's anticipation of this product. My guess is the overwhelming majority of people will stick (no pun intended) with their original grips. The fact remains that these products are mass produced in China and rest assured it'll be for a fraction of the cost for what they'll be selling them for. My experience with working for American companies is unless they make money over fist they're not interested. I use to work for Mira and whilst working there I learned that the heating elements they had made in China would cost around £5 to produce, yet Mira sell them here in the UK for over £100. It's nothing more than corporate greed. You'll be amazed how cheaply Thrustmaster will have those stick grips produced for, yet they expect people to pay €200 for one lol! Thrustmaster and anyone else who attempts to sell the community this grip is going to get some heat for sure.
  18. I don't know why people are such shitty FPS with their builds. I'm getting 60+ FPS 3440x1440 @ 120Hz with my current build with everything maxxed out.
  19. Does anyone know whether of not ED are planning VR support for the Vive Pro Eye? I've put off buying VR until this eye tracking Vive iteration has been released, but there's no point in purchasing it if DCS won't support it.
  20. Yeah, I bagged an EVGA 2080 XC Ultra for £699 last night so I'm happy. 3 her warranty, newer tech, better performer than the 1080ti so it made sense. I should get around 25% better performance than my 1080 @ 3440x1440
  21. Well, I've literally just bought a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master, an Intel 9900K and an EVGA RTX 2080 XC Ultra. It was an eye watering amount of money to spend in one hit, but, damn, it's going to be an awesome build :)
  22. Why are we seeing so many people out there throwing money at pre-owned GTX 1080 ti's when you can now pick up a RTX 2080 brand new for more or less the same cost? In the gaming FPS benchmarks I've seen the RTX 2080 beats the GTX 1080 ti so I just don't get it.
  23. I currently have an Asus X99 Deluxe board with a 5280K CPU. My card is a GTX 1080 and I have 32Gb of DDR4 and a NVMe SSD. I'd like to upgade to a Gigabyte Aorus Master Z390 board and a 9900K CPU, but before I shed out over £750 I'd like to at least know what improvements I'm going to see over my existing build. Will I just see faster loading times and increased FPS or will I see more benefits?
  24. Well, I finally managed to pluck up the courage to do the Warthog disassemble and regrease. Knowing the rubber oring was an issue I bought a telfon ring and settled for Tamiya's Cera HG Grease. I followed ronin51670's YouTube video to the letter and it all went relatively smoothly - albeit time consuming sanding the parts. There is a night and day difference now with the stick and stiction issue addressed. Although the gimbal and parts are well greased I can still hear the parts moving - probably more so now I've swapped out the rubber oring for the teflon ring. Also I can sometimes hear a slight clicking noise from the gimbal when I sometimes move the stick. It seems infrequent so I'm wondering if it's just movement of the teflon ring. Has anyone else had much experience with the teflon ring?
  25. I had some Saitek pedals that were manufactured under MadCatz and they broke. Impossible to source parts so they're sitting idle. I had enough of cheap controllers so bought Slaw's RX Vipers. I have them on some rubber matting I bought on eBay.
