so i'm watching matt wagners case 1 recovery and I have the following questions -When he enters 55 xray for the TACAN and sets his course line...how does he know the code is 55? I set up a mission for myself and I type in 55 xray and I dont think anything happens....is 55 the default? Cuz I heard you can change this in the mission editor but I didnt do so. also when he sets his course to the carrier by hitting the course set switch and a line appears on the center and low MFCD the one behind the stick...I dont get that at all. basically I can't tune into the carrier at all via the TACAN and i'm following what hes doing in the video below. also how does one set the auto throttle? Watch video from 1:40 on to see what i'm talking about.

F/A-18C Carrier Landing/Recovery: Pro Tips wanted
Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
i'm no pro, i'm just speaking from having landed a bunch of times now. I put the plane at a slight offset to the right. so line it up as ur saying u do, but be slightly offset to the right, when you enter the groove (15-18 seconds to touch down) give her a slight heading change to the left and bring her in like that. this is obvs the dumb mans version of doing it. but in what i'm seeing in these videos if you can hit ur numbers on ur 180 and 90 turns you'll just naturally be lined up with the offset of the carrier box. (angled landing area you refered to) -
elaborate pls

i would also like to know how one gets custom images on the pilots actual leg, and if its not an option and this picture is some sort of Photoshop wizardry, it would be nice if EA added such an option for us.

this. u can't call a guys credibility into question cuz he forgot 1 thing after 20 years Jesus. if u watch his video he has sooooo much technical data on the hornet backed up with tips and tricks that its impossible for him to be making that shit up. I have no doubt he was a legit hornet driver. maybe a little rusty but his information is more than valuable. -

So i been practicing big time with this bird, and I've gotten pretty good at putting her down on the deck without crashing or missing the wires (my collection of attempts below) Now that I can do that, I'm looking for pro tips, things i'm doing wrong that you guys know is wrong in respect to the real life procedure. I now want to start doing it as real as possible the right way. Any and all tips are welcome and appreciated. I've included both internal and external views in the video. Thanks again to ED for this great early access bird. -
F/A-18C take off procedure (help)
Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
u probably got the Canadian version of the hornet. runs on tim hortons hot chocolate mixed with maple syrup. they aren't afterburner capable. sorry m8 -
I can't get any of my trim controls to respond. I used the default keyboard keys and mapped the trim nose up and down to my Thrustmaster BUT i'm still not seeing it do anything when I press them. The in cockpit joystick doesn't move either. other planes I can visually the see cockpit view joystick moving in relation to my trim input. am i doing something wrong?

I just give play with throttle and speed brake aim for about 200-230 I find lets you come down pretty nice. You'd be surprised how easy the carrier landings actually are. I got it on my first attempt granted it wasn't pretty but I got it. The hornet just seems like a real easy bird to land tbh. It's harder to mess it up if u ask me. I have a much harder time landing a mig29 or an f15 than the f18 -
didn't cause any FPS problems for me

F/A-18C take off procedure (help)
Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I checked that too those were up. whats weird is I watch carrier launch videos on youtube and they get this random pitch up just as they come off the edge of the carrier but I dont get that. I read its supposed to be automatic ur not supposed to touch the stick until like a second after that. but ya I dont get that pitch up. shit is weird. But I mean i'm getting off the ground now and the stennis so i'm happy for now -
What I did in the editor was place them over the carrier set to take off from ramp and then set thier internal fuel to 0. That worked pretty good I managed to get up to 8 planes on the deck

I was already doing all the stuff u said about the trim but wow did that throttle lift control make a difference. I actually managed to get off the carrier without stalling out. thanks so much for your help brother. -

Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
ok i'll try this. what does this do exactly? does that mean when I go full afterburner i'm not actually full burner? I cant seem to find what that is called in the controls section, theres nothing for afterburner detent, or anything that sounds similar under throttle when i search it. -

Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
yes. i'm doing all those things, however I just tried the take off without the external fuel tanks and it worked just fine, so now i'm thinking maybe I was too heavy? is there a different take off procedure if youre close to max weight ? -

thanks for the response but I dont have pedals. I just use W on the keyboard no brakes mapped to my joystick -
hey guys i'm just trying to take off with this plane and I can't seem to manage it to save my life. I start hot, on a run way, I push the button for take off trim, flaps are on, and I go full after burner. I barley manage to get off the ground before I run out of runway and even when I do manage that I can't get my speed up beyond 187 TOPS. which obvs doesn't allow me to climb. I read some other threads about trim and stuff but they didn't seem to answer the issues. is there anyone out there whos been taking off with no problems that can help me out here. Thanks in advance.
